Chapter 238: Summary And Recap
Chapter 238: Summary And Recap
Everything was building up to a climactic moment, but the situation looked bleak for everyone. The parasite that had taken control of Schneider possessed knowledge about humanity, making it a formidable adversary. The fact that the smartest man in the world had fallen into its hands meant that this knowledge would undoubtedly have dire consequences for humanity.
The parasite exhibited its power by forging a sword from a fragment, actively creating weapons that harnessed the fragment’s strength. It made one wonder if Schneider had ever truly existed or if this had all been the parasite’s doing from the very beginning. It was a far-fetched theory, but considering the impending dangers, they would have prioritized killing the parasite, even if it meant sacrificing themselves.
Because there was no limit to how far these parasites could evolve, they brought humanity the knowledge it needed to advance but what would happen now that humanity no longer possessed that knowledge?

Allison was dissatisfied with the direction the community was heading in, and her connections with the Specters had been heavily implied by her peculiar behavior. The question remained: was her involvement in the best interest of the community, or did she have an ulterior motive? Only time would reveal the truth but time was the one thing they no longer had.
However, there was no doubt that once her true intentions came to light, she would be treated as an enemy.
Mariam, despite being aware of the danger Allison posed, allowed her into their ranks and even granted her a position of power. This was unprecedented and could be seen as poor leadership on Mariam’s part.
The Specters worked for the community, so it was not far-fetched to think that they had encountered reputable members within their midst.
The criminals sent to the camp served their punishment, equivalent to community service, but what benefit did the Specters gain from serving a community that seemed to only be a liability? This remained a mystery, but there was no denying that they were reaping some form of benefit from this arrangement.
Bella knew that Allison wouldn’t harm her unless it was a last resort. She understood that provoking Allison would only lead to dire consequences.
That’s why she hesitated to report her suspicions to Mariam. Acting solely on a hunch wasn’t enough, but Bella knew she might have to take action soon before it was too late.
Bella realized that if she confided in Rachel, it would put her in danger. Allison would seize any opportunity to get rid of Rachel.
However, Bella also knew that she was once part of the Specters and perhaps she could uncover the truth by speaking with their leader. To do so, she would have to leave the safety of the camp.
There was a good chance she wouldn’t return, but if it meant saving the community and the people she now considered family, it was a risk she was willing to take, or rather, a risk she had to take.
Bella wondered if anyone would notice her absence, but deep down, she felt that she hadn’t done enough to make amends for her past sins.
And she was right. Sins couldn’t simply be washed away, as the damage caused to people would forever remain.
It would be selfish of her to assume that all was forgiven just because she had recently decided to be a decent human being.
Life didn’t work that way, although some religions adopted this flawed logic, and it was an interesting development within the community.
Dimitris and his team had miraculously survived what seemed like an impossible task.
The sheer willpower it took to overcome this obstacle was immense, especially considering they encountered a new type of zombie. The information they gained from this experience was invaluable, as it would drastically shape their understanding of the undead.
It was clear that things would never be the same, but armed with this knowledge, they had the power to navigate the challenges ahead.
Mariam had more pressing concerns than another assassination attempt. Both internal and external issues were weighing heavily on her.
Dimitris knew they had to fight back now, as allowing the zombies to evolve any further would spell the end of humanity. This was a risk they couldn’t afford to take.
Fortunately, having a base provided some relief and allowed for better coordination of their attacks. They needed to start training anyone capable of combat.
The prospect of facing a horde of evolved zombies was the worst-case scenario, but Dimitris also noticed some abnormalities in Jason’s behavior. When their car came to a halt near the hospital, they assumed that Jason, armed with the knowledge he possessed, would be safe. However, they were taken aback to see Jason accompanied by a child, and the number of surrounding zombies was alarmingly high.
Driving through without attracting the attention of the zombies would be impossible. While these zombies might not be as intimidating as the ones they had encountered before, the noise from the car would undoubtedly draw them in.
Despite this obstacle, Carl and Glenn were relieved to see Jason, viewing his accomplishments as awe-inspiring.
Dimitris, however, couldn’t help but feel skeptical about how Jason managed to achieve what they couldn’t in months, all on his own.
In addition to his extraordinary accomplishments, Jason had somehow saved a child during the process. This raised questions in Dimitris’ mind, leading him to ask Jason a pivotal question:
"What are you, Jason?"
He saw Jason go head to head with a zombie that clearly possessed superhuman speed and strength, he was hit with such force that he should have broken multiple ribs yet he came out of it like nothing had happened.
Dimitris was only just putting one and two together but the very traits these evolved zombies had shown, Jason had displayed as well.
With their mission concluded, they wasted no time in beginning their journey back to the community. Little did they know, something unexpected had happened to them—one of them had been marked.
