Chapter 264: So Fierce, They Won’t Even Spare Themselves

Hearing Wu Yue’s heavy panting, Qingcao wiped the sweat from her forehead. "Yue, just hang in there a little longer. We’re almost at the river. We can rest there in a bit."

The weather before the small rainy season was truly unbearable. The sky was gloomy, yet it was also incredibly humid and stuffy.

They had only climbed the mountain behind the tribe, but both of them were already drenched in sweat. On top of that, they had been too exhausted when they returned yesterday. They’d only managed a quick wash-up before bed and hadn’t properly bathed.

Wu Yue felt like she was covered in a layer of grime.

But the hint of a cool breeze from up ahead made her abandon any thought of heading back to the tribe.

The mountain behind the tribe was their territory. While some wild vegetables and fruits grew there, the women of the tribe had long since picked the area clean.

On their way up the mountain, they had only run into a few other tribe members.

She forced herself onward for a while longer. Just when Wu Yue felt like she was about to drop dead, Qingcao finally announced they had arrived.

Looking at the crystal-clear pool of water before her, Wu Yue’s eyes instantly lit up.

She turned her head to look at the equally breathless Qingcao beside her. "Does this pool have those kinds of fish?"

Qingcao raised her arm to wipe the sweat from her face, looking at her in confusion. "What fish?"

"You know, the biting fish we ran into when we were looking for those stone slates. The ones with all the sharp teeth."

Qingcao nodded, realization dawning. She then pointed toward the pool. "Oh, yeah, there are tons. They all stay in the deep water."

Seeing the disappointed look on her face, Qingcao smiled. "Yue, do you want to go play in the water?"

Wu Yue: "..."

’Could you not use the phrase "play in the water," please?’

’I have very serious business to attend to regarding my personal hygiene.’

’If you don’t believe me, just look at my serious face...’

But Qingcao didn’t get her serious vibe at all. She just got up and walked behind a huge rock at the edge of the pool.

Her eyes crinkled into a smile as she looked over at Wu Yue. "Yue, come over here!"

Seeing her friend’s excited expression, Wu Yue had a pretty good idea what was going on. She got up and walked over.

"Look! Look! What do you think?"

Sure enough, behind the large rock was a small pool that had clearly been carved out by hand.

The pool wasn’t large, but it was big enough for three people to bathe in.

Wu Yue’s eyes sparkled as she gazed at the pool, which was so clear you could see straight to the bottom. Her heart swelled with delight.

"Did the people from our tribe carve this out?"

’How thoughtful of them.’

Qingcao chuckled and nodded. "Yup! So? Isn’t bathing here awesome?"

Wu Yue nodded happily. Then, the two of them kicked off the Beast Skin shoes on their feet and jumped in.

Ever since Wu Yue had dragged her to take a bath that one time, Qingcao had fallen deeply in love with the feeling of being fresh and clean.

Wu Yue was still wearing her little woven-grass tank top and short skirt, but Qingcao, ever the free spirit, stripped completely bare.

"Qingcao, have you put on more weight?"

Qingcao’s chubby face fell, and she nodded woefully. "If I keep getting fatter like this, I might as well go be a piglet for a Wild Boar Beast."

Wu Yue shot her a disdainful look. "A Wild Boar Beast wouldn’t want a piglet with such poor fighting skills. You’d be a disgrace to the species."

Qingcao’s expression immediately turned mournful. "Am I the hope of our people right now, then?"

Wu Yue pondered for a moment before saying awkwardly, "Well... you’re Teng Kun’s hope, at least..."

But Qingcao’s face lit up with pride and joy. "Well, of course!"

The words had barely left her mouth when she slapped herself across the face.
