Chapter 10. The Guy on the Other End of the Line

After the brat said that sentence, he stopped doing anything to her body. This made Leticia quietly breathe a sigh of relief.

At least, for now, she would not embarrass herself because of uncontrollable factors.

Knowing that his child had a chance to enter the Church and get closer to the radiance of the Lord, John was in an excellent mood, so much so that even his already aged face seemed to look much younger.

“Child, rest now, it’s getting late.”

Now that he no longer had to labor at the village’s mine at night, John usually went to bed very early, to regain energy for the next day.

Leticia, however, was still unaccustomed to this. After all, she used to be a night owl, usually staying awake until midnight. Now, a little past eight, she had to go to bed.

“Got it, Uncle. You should rest well too, don’t fall sick again.”

“You child.”

John scolded with a smile, “Always saying nonsense. Your uncle is perfectly fine now! Alright, go to sleep.”

Watching Leticia lie down, John snuffed out the small, crooked candle and lay down on his bed.

For a while, he could not sleep, recalling Leticia’s parents—two simple, honest farmers who had died in a plague brought by a witch, almost taking their child with them.

Fortunately, the Lord had favored this child. She had survived, grown up strong, and now even had the chance to serve Him.

“Big brother, sister-in-law, do you see it in heaven? Your child has achieved something......”

At the same time, Leticia also found it hard to sleep.

“This damn brat...... how exactly is he controlling my body......”

She kept brooding over this unscientific matter. She could accept the existence of supernatural forces, even longed for them a little, but this was absolutely not the kind of power she wanted—especially one capable of leading to those sorts of “R18 developments”!

And this power didn’t even belong to her!

“But, it seems for now, that brat is being well-behaved......”

Leticia quietly calculated in her heart. “Looks like he’s one of those who has received higher education, someone with a good grasp of this world’s situation. I’ll see if I can find a chance to establish some rapport with him and get some information out of him......”

Her mind wandered with countless thoughts. With these troubles, Leticia listened to the occasional sounds outside the window, and gradually fell asleep.

......

At the same time, somewhere else......

Stano Banson was not in a good mood.

After leaving the dinner table, he said a word to his family, ditched his personal maid, and ran off.

“What’s wrong with little brother today?”

At the table, a voluptuous young girl asked.

She had naturally curly golden hair, dressed in elegance and splendor. Beneath the hem of her dress, her long leather boots outlined her slender, beautiful legs. These legs were her pride, for at dances she always drew the gazes of many gentlemen with her graceful steps and elegant bearing.

She was Rose Banson, the eldest daughter of the Banson family, soon to be wed to the son of a family of equal standing.

“He doesn’t look happy. Did someone upset him? Blake, do you know?”

The lady of the house shook her head and looked toward the one who might know the answer.

“No, Mother, I don’t know.”

Blake Banson was the youngest son of the family. Together with their eldest sister, eldest brother, and second brother, they made up the younger generation of the Banson family. His skin was much fairer than his elder brother’s, his light blue eyes looked clear and bright, and his short golden hair lay softly upon his head. “Big brother didn’t come to me today, I wasn’t with him.”

“That’s strange......”

Lady Banson thought for a moment. “Shall I go see him later? Or, dear, will you?”

“I don’t think that’s necessary.”

Banson, a burly middle-aged man with a crew cut and a hardened expression that looked as if he was always on the battlefield, replied, “Stano is a child with his own ideas. If he encounters troubles or concerns he cannot resolve himself, I believe he will come to us.”

“That’s true~”

Lady Banson was a beauty, well-maintained, and always carried a girlish charm and innocence. “Still, it’s been so long since Stano came to confide in me, it’s really disheartening. He used to always cling to me......”

“Mother, we’re not children anymore......”

Blake muttered softly.

While the family laughed and talked, what was Stano doing?

He was throwing pillows in his room, jumping on his bed as he tossed them, muttering, “What’s going on, what’s going on, why can’t I see it anymore?”

The connection had been cut.

After dinner, Stano realized he could no longer see those images that sometimes flashed before his eyes—the scenes seen by that “little girl from who-knows-where.” Nor could he hear that faint voice.

He even tried to use that little girl’s body to move again, but as expected, he failed.

The strange link he had formed with that little girl had been severed.

“Was it that country bumpkin from the village?”

Stano suspected it was Leticia who had cut the connection. “No, she seemed just as confused about what was happening between us. It probably wasn’t her......”

In Stano’s view, this was definitely not the work of some evil power. After all, in the Church’s texts about demonic handmaidens, witches, and sorceresses who lured humans to corruption, none of them had ever done anything so......

Childish and amusing.

He was more inclined to believe it was one of God’s pranks, an oracle of sorts.

But now that he could not feel the connection, Stano was annoyed.

“Does that mean I won’t have such a fun toy anymore?”

Well, though this brat technically belonged to the “good side,” his worldview seemed a little skewed......

If Leticia knew what he was thinking, she would do anything to sever the connection completely.

“Tch...... boring!”

Jumping out the window, Stano ran into his family’s garden, found a quiet little corner, and lay down.

The starry sky was beautiful. In the deep, clear blue, countless points of light twinkled, forming the most beautiful night sky.

It was said that long ago the night was dangerous. It was the Lord who drove back those demons and witches, allowing His people to see the tranquil, beautiful night sky and sleep soundly beneath the starlight.

“Sigh......”

With a light sigh, Stano closed his eyes and carelessly fell asleep.

Anyway, a servant would find him soon enough and carry him back to his room.
