Chapter 980 - 979: Rejection
Chapter 980 - 979: Rejection
At this moment, Xu Ke was thinking a lot in the living room, while the two sisters were in the room, regretting their impulsiveness just a moment ago.
But the words had already been said, and there was no way to take them back, just like spilled water that couldn’t be wholly collected again.
Like a shattered mirror that could never return to its original state, even if glued back together, the cracks remained, and nothing could change that.
"We really were too impulsive. We shouldn’t have said it so early; we should have waited longer and spoken only when she liked us a bit more," said Guoguo, lying on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
"Wait longer, then will you have the chance to say it at all? If you miss the chance to express love when you have the courage, time will pass, and the words will never come out," Tangtang replied, looking forlorn.
She knew this wasn’t the best moment to express love, but she also knew she had the most courage now.
If these words weren’t spoken today, they might never be uttered in a lifetime; some courage and words can truly be said just once in life—if missed, they’re gone for good.
The two of them hid in the room, refusing to come out, and Xu Ke originally just needed to knock on the door to call them out.
Thinking of the awkward moment earlier, Xu Ke decided to give them more time to prepare, so he didn’t continue knocking.
The time quickly turned to evening, with the two sisters still hiding inside, but Xu Ke wasn’t planning to give them more time.
After all, avoidance solves nothing. What isn’t said today will have to be said tomorrow; it’s better to resolve everything at once than endure prolonged pain.
This time, Xu Ke knocked persistently, and although the sisters initially didn’t want to open the door, seeing Xu’s determination, they knew they couldn’t avoid it.
The two sisters reluctantly opened the door, and as anticipated, Xu Ke stood outside.
Guoguo quietly glanced at Xu Ke, trying to decipher his thoughts from his expression.
Unfortunately, they failed.
The reason Xu was first seen through by the sisters was that he hadn’t expected them to say such words.
Thus, he was caught off-guard, revealing his thoughts through his expressions.
But this time was different; Xu Ke initiated the conversation and was fully prepared internally, keeping his expression calm.
"I’ve thought carefully about what you said to me this morning, and now I want to give you my answer," Xu Ke said calmly.
"Don’t tell us now; you can think about it longer and tell us later," Tangtang, sensing something amiss, quickly tried to stop Xu Ke.
But some things cannot be stopped by anyone, and clearly, Xu Ke didn’t want this matter to be brushed aside.
Not thinking about something doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Xu Ke didn’t want to create false hope; he wanted things clear for the sisters and himself, respecting their true feelings.
Though he couldn’t embrace their affection and didn’t intend to, he respected their choice and their love.
Out of respect, Xu Ke chose this moment to clarify everything.
"No, I’ve thought very clearly. You are all adults and have experienced much; you know some things won’t become meaningful even if you prolong them," Xu Ke said gently to the sisters.
"First, I am grateful for your fondness. I’m unsure if I did something to mislead you, leading to this illusion and decision, but I want to sincerely apologize," Xu Ke said, looking down.
"I appreciate your affection, but I cannot reciprocate because I already have someone I like, someone I plan to spend my life with, and in this plan, I don’t intend to include anyone else, so I’m sorry," Xu Ke said, lifting his gaze to meet Tangtang and Guoguo’s eyes.
"In my heart, you’ve always been my sisters, and I’ve always seen myself as an elder brother, so I really apologize, but I cannot respond to your affection. Between brother and lover, I choose brother, and if you can’t accept this outcome, I will understand your choice and respect it."
Though Xu Ke didn’t say it outright, his meaning was clear.
He always viewed the sisters as his little sisters, and if they wanted to stay, it had to be as sisters. If they wanted to be his lovers, they’d regrettably have to leave.
The sisters, not being foolish, understood Xu Ke’s words, feeling inevitably a bit dejected and disappointed.
They really liked Xu Ke, but if this affection meant leaving him, they’d choose to bury it deep in their hearts.
Though their time together wasn’t long, the days spent with Xu Ke were rare moments of joy, comfort, and security they’d scarcely felt before.
Being with Xu Ke meant not having to worry about someone coming to knock on the door for money or being sold to work in nightclubs.
Before sleeping every night, they had to lock the doors and windows, fearing dubious individuals might break in.
Being around Xu Ke was a rare time of peace; they didn’t want to lose that. Though they faced a brutal rejection in their first confession, Tangtang and Guoguo had difficult expressions but soon made their choice.
"No need to apologize; being treated as sisters already touches us deeply. If we can’t be lovers, being siblings is good," Guoguo said with a forced smile.
"I hope our confession didn’t cause you any trouble; if possible, could we continue to stay here?" Guoguo asked nervously.
"Of course, isn’t calling you sister just natural?" Xu Ke replied with a smile, firmly setting their relationship as siblings.
Tangtang and Guoguo felt regret and loss but were able to accept this outcome.
