Chapter 977 - 976: The Two Sisters
Chapter 977 - 976: The Two Sisters
Tangtang was stumped by Guoguo’s question.
"Don’t be quick to deny it. We are twins, from childhood to adulthood, what you like I also like, what I like you also like, what you hate I hate too, what I hate you also dislike. We know each other’s preferences too well. I like Brother Xu, how could you not like him?" Guoguo said.
She spoke decisively, with certainty.
Tangtang did not argue because she felt Guoguo was right.
They have liked the same things since childhood, and this has never changed. So now both liking the same person doesn’t seem so hard to accept, nor is it surprising.
At least for the two sisters, this was not unexpected.
"Didn’t we discuss this when we were young? If we fall for the same person, what should we do? Do you remember what you said back then, sister?" Guoguo turned to face the light above and spoke.
Tangtang thought for a while and then pulled this scene from her distant memory, "I said we should marry the same person."
"Since that’s the case, then why are you still conflicted, sister? Have you changed your mind? Are you willing to let Brother Xu go to me and then find someone else to marry?" Guoguo asked.
Without much hesitation, Tangtang decisively rejected this proposal.
"How could I? Don’t talk nonsense," Tangtang replied.
"Since you’re not planning to marry someone else, nor to give Brother Xu to me, then what are you still conflicted about? What are you thinking?" Guoguo asked her sister, puzzled.
"But this is not allowed in China, if we act like this, people will criticize us, point fingers at us. Can you accept living such days?" Tangtang said worriedly, mimicking Guoguo and turning to face the overhead light.
She kept twisting the blanket on her body; it was clear she was very conflicted.
"But haven’t we always lived in this kind of environment, from childhood till now? The rumors, the pointing fingers, the casual insults, false accusations, we haven’t heard less of all these?" Guoguo retorted.
"Regardless, we’ve heard these kinds of things for over 20 years, so hearing a bit more, what difference would it make?" Guoguo muttered.
Whether she said this for herself or for Tangtang was unclear, but both sisters fell silent again.
"But this is different," Tangtang said.
"How is it different? Isn’t it all living under others’ words, listening to their rumors?" Guoguo questioned, perplexed by her sister’s unusual hesitation, which was unlike her.
Guoguo asked whatever came to her mind, for there were no secrets between her and her sister.
"Sister, why are you so hesitant today? It doesn’t feel like you."
"You don’t understand what I am worried about. Although we may not care about it, how do you know Brother Xu doesn’t care? We are used to this environment and have heard such words often, thinking they don’t affect us. But Brother Xu is not like that," Tangtang said.
After Tangtang spoke, Guoguo fell silent because Tangtang’s concern was indeed valid. They were discussing everything from their own perspective without considering the possibility of Xu Ke turning them down.
But such thinking is not right. They cannot be self-centered in matters of relationship, which requires mutual feelings between two people.
If their one-sidedness causes Xu Ke trouble, neither of them would feel good.
Still, Tangtang continued, not intending to stop, whether warning herself or Guoguo.
"Earlier, people’s criticisms, their rumors, we didn’t take them seriously because we knew we didn’t do those things. We stood upright and had nothing to fear. But later, if people talk, it would indeed be things we’ve done; at that point, where would we find the courage to refute their words?"
"Moreover, in China, two sisters sharing one husband is not well-regarded, and if such a thing becomes known, we wouldn’t be able to face it, especially since it’s not even legal."
"And aren’t we planning to always live the three of us together? Aren’t we planning to have children in the future? Even if we don’t want children, Brother Xu might want them. If he wants children, how would we explain our relationship to them? Have you thought about this?" Tangtang asked Guoguo.
Guoguo remained silent.
Yet Tangtang continued to speak, as if she wanted to voice all her bottled-up concerns.
"Don’t tell me you haven’t thought about these issues. I know you must have. Although we are sisters, I’m the older one, you’re the younger, born the same day, but I’ve always known you’re more steady and thoughtful than I am." Tangtang sighed deeply and spoke.
"Anything I’m able to think of, surely you have thought about as well. You are just avoiding these problems, refusing to admit them, pretending not to see." Tangtang said.
This time, the sigh belonged to Guoguo.
She could not refute Tangtang’s words because they were true.
Everything Tangtang mentioned, Guoguo had long considered, and precisely because she considered these issues, she felt conflicted, unsure what to do.
She hoped to obtain an answer from Tangtang; over 20 years into her life, this was the first time she wanted Tangtang to choose for her, to decide.
Previously, the role of decision-maker fell to her, but this time she didn’t want it, because she was truly lost, truly uncertain about what to do.
"Then tell me, what should I do?" Guoguo asked.
Unfortunately, she still couldn’t find an answer with Tangtang. Tangtang pointed out the problems but offered no solutions, nor could she make a decision.
This was what caused her pain.
They hadn’t tasted the sweetness of love, but first, the bitterness, Tangtang and Guoguo never thought their fate could be so bad.
Even when faced with their previous gambler parents, they held some hope because they knew those parents ruined themselves.
As long as they didn’t give up hope, continued striving, they had a chance for success, a chance to turn things around.
But in matters of the heart, how do they turn things around?
