Chapter 962 - 961: Trouble at the Casino
Tangtang and Guoguo, the two sisters, didn’t know what Xu Ke was thinking. They just felt that Xu Ke’s gaze suddenly became very gentle, like the look they would get from the elderly vendors when they went grocery shopping.
It’s quite normal for older folks to look at them kindly, but Xu Ke wasn’t that old, appearing to be around their age, yet he looked at them with such eyes.
The sisters felt weird for a moment, even getting goosebumps from Xu Ke’s gaze.
"Brother Xu, why are you looking at us like that?" Among the two sisters, Tangtang was the one who couldn’t contain herself. Although Guoguo felt strange inside, she had no intention of speaking up, but Tangtang, being quick-tongued, seemed to have forgotten Xu Ke’s past and the questions just came out.
Hearing Tangtang’s question, Xu Ke’s lips curled into a gentle smile.
"I’m just looking at you two, and suddenly thought that having a daughter wouldn’t be bad. In the future, I definitely want to have a daughter," Xu Ke said.
"You don’t even have a girlfriend yet, isn’t it a bit early to be thinking about a daughter?" Tangtang asked with her round eyes wide open, posing a lethal question.
If Xu Ke truly didn’t have a girlfriend, hearing Tangtang say this would be like a stab in the heart. But Xu Ke was already married, so this comment couldn’t hurt him.
However, Guoguo didn’t know about this, and upon hearing her sister say that, she discreetly pinched Tangtang’s leg under the table, hoping her sister would quickly shut up.
Yet, the sisters’ usually well-prided tacit understanding seemed to vanish at this moment. Tangtang didn’t get Guoguo’s intention and instead yelped out in pain from the sudden pinch, turning her head sharply to look at Guoguo.
"Guoguo, why are you pinching my leg? You know it hurts so much," Tangtang complained to Guoguo.
Guoguo, feeling embarrassed by Tangtang’s foolishness, closed her eyes, not daring to look at Xu Ke’s eyes, convinced that he must be looking at them like fools.
This was utterly embarrassing.
But Guoguo was overthinking; Xu Ke didn’t laugh at her for this, nor did he even glance much at her. All his thoughts were drawn back to Lin Mengyao and Ariel by Tangtang’s remark about a girlfriend.
This time, having been away from home so long, he truly missed Lin Mengyao and also Ariel. He also wanted to know if Yu Xia, still in the hospital bed, was getting better.
But there were no answers to these questions at the moment. All he could do was focus on the present, telling himself that once he completed his current task, he could return to see the people he wanted to see.
This was his first time being away from home for so long, and also the first time not contacting his loved ones for such a long period. He couldn’t help but wonder if they were doing well without him.
Thinking of these things, Xu Ge felt a slight sadness and strong longing wash over his heart, but he hid these emotions well, only briefly letting them slip through his eyes before masking them completely and burying them deep within.
"Even though I don’t have a girlfriend now, it doesn’t mean I won’t have one in the future," Xu Ke replied nonchalantly with a smile.
"Do you really like daughters? Are you a daughter fanatic?" Guoguo asked, seeing that Xu Ke wasn’t upset, she chimed in.
They hadn’t known Xu Ke for long, which made them curious about him. Now that they had the chance to learn more, they certainly didn’t want to miss it.
"It’s not exactly about being a daughter fanatic. I like both boys and girls. As long as they’re my own children, it’s all good. But at this stage, I just hope to have a daughter in the future," Xu Ke thoughtfully replied.
"Oh, I see," Tangtang said, showing a face of sudden realization.
"What? Did you think I prefer girls over boys or boys over girls?" Xu Ke responded with a smile.
Upon hearing Xu Ke’s remark, Guoguo felt a bit embarrassed. She cautiously looked at Xu Ke before speaking, "A little bit."
"In truth, I don’t. Boys and girls are the same to me," Xu Ke said.
Just as the sisters were about to continue chatting with Xu Ke, his phone rang, and a slightly embarrassed look appeared on his face.
Seeing this, Tangtang and Guoguo immediately fell silent, sealing their lips tightly, refraining from making any sound.
Xu Ke answered the phone, and the voice on the other end sounded noticeably anxious.
"Brother Xu, you better come over soon. There’s trouble at the casino. Someone’s causing a ruckus, and it’s already turned into a fight," said the voice on the other end.
A trace of unease appeared on Xu Ke’s face, "Have the casino security try to control them first," Xu Ke suggested.
"It’s no use. The security can’t manage it; these people are quite skilled fighters," the person replied.
"Whether they can manage it or not, just try to control the situation for now. I’ll be there immediately and handle it when I arrive," Xu Ke instructed.
The man on the other end said a couple more things before hanging up.
"I won’t be able to join you for this meal anymore. Something’s come up that I need to deal with," Xu Ke said apologetically.
"It’s alright, your business matters," Tangtang quickly waved her hand, indicating it was fine.
"Is it that business with those scumbags that was discovered?" Unlike the carefree Tangtang, Guoguo thought a bit deeper and, hearing Xu Ke mention dealing with something, immediately linked it to the scumbags dealt with earlier in the day.
"It’s not about them; it’s work-related," Xu Ke said, considering the sisters’ circumstances, largely due to their parents’ gambling issues. Assuming the sisters likely despised gambling, Xu Ke didn’t want to explain that he was actually heading to the casino, settling instead on saying it was work.
In reality, calling it work wasn’t entirely a lie. He was indeed making a living from this, so calling it work wasn’t deceitful.
Hearing it was work-related, Guoguo relaxed considerably.
"Then you should go ahead. Don’t worry about us; we can take care of ourselves. Just don’t work too late and remember to eat," Guoguo advised, looking at Xu Ke.
"I will. You both enjoy your meal at home," Xu Ke replied.
Xu Ke didn’t linger, either at home or on the road, and soon arrived at the casino.
As soon as he entered, he felt the tense atmosphere, with two distinct groups inside, each bearing some injuries.
Not only were people hurt, but many things inside the casino were smashed and broken.
It seemed a fierce fight had taken place before Xu Ge arrived, much worse than what the man had indicated over the phone.
