Chapter 785: Angel
Chapter 785: Angel
"Do you know? You are my angel. You always show up when I need you the most and give me exactly what I need. I really like you. I’m willing to let you ask for one thing from me, anything you want." Claude tightly held the USB drive Xu Ke handed him, looking at Xu Ke as he spoke.
Claude heard the sound of heavy breathing, but the source was not Xu Ke; it was the butler standing beside him.
The butler, realizing his own loss of composure, coughed lightly with some embarrassment.
"There is indeed something I really want, but you can’t give it to me yet. Let’s talk about it when you have it." Xu Ke, for the first time, clearly stated that there was something he wanted from Claude. This made Claude’s previously uncertain heart settle when facing Xu Ke.
In Claude’s view, all human interactions are profitable; there is simply no such thing as pure friendship.
"Although I don’t know what it is you want, as long as your item ends up in my hands, I’ll give it to you. If it doesn’t reach my hands, I’ll help you snatch it." Claude promised.
"No, that item will definitely end up in your hands; there is no second possibility. With me standing by your side, what is there that you can’t get or seize?" Xu Ke’s lips curved slightly, a sense of pride rising, leaving Claude momentarily stunned.
"I thought you Easterners were very modest; I didn’t expect you to be so straightforward." Claude reacted and said with a smile.
"When the answer is right in front of you, pretending to be humble seems a bit hypocritical." Xu Ke said with a faint smile on his face.
"What you say makes sense. Starting tomorrow, don’t go to the factory anymore. Stay with me and work with Avin. Letting you stay at the factory any longer would be a waste of time. If it’s convenient for you, it’s best if you stay at my manor, so I can find you more easily." Claude said.
"I’ll go pack my luggage and can report over tomorrow." Xu Ke nodded and said.
The next day, Xu Ke bid farewell to his boss, who was reluctant to let him go, and moved to Claude’s manor.
The content of the USB drive that Xu Ke handed to Claude yesterday must have made him particularly satisfied. Early in the morning, Xu Ke saw Claude wearing a suit and coming out of the room with a smile on his face, and he had already asked the butler to prepare the car for going out.
"I didn’t expect you to come out so early. It’s good that you’re out, so I don’t have to send someone to fetch you. Come out with us." Claude noticed Xu Ke’s good mood, even showing a slight smile on his face.
Claude is actually not a person who likes to smile, but whenever he sees Xu Ke, he can’t help but want to smile because every time he meets Xu Ke, he always brings him good news. Xu Ke is practically his angel; this is a wonderful thing.
When Claude arrived at Calvin Manor, they had just woken up and were having breakfast.
Upon hearing from the butler that Claude had arrived, everyone in the dining room froze instantly, with expressions of unabashed shock on their faces. Even Bart, sitting at the main seat, couldn’t help but show a surprised expression. This was only the second time in a month that Claude had come to the manor, a frequency far exceeding past years.
Before they could conceal their shocked expressions, Claude had already walked in with Xu Ke and the butler.
"Why does everyone have such an expression? Are you not hoping to see me?" At this moment, the smile on Claude’s face had long disappeared, looking even more serious and cold-hearted than he did at his own manor.
"How could we not want to see you? We just didn’t expect you to return twice in a month. They are just too surprised and didn’t react immediately. Did you have breakfast this early? If not, sit down and have some with us." Bart smiled affectionately at Claude as he spoke.
Bart’s face, almost every wrinkle, relaxed, expressing his affection for Claude, but Xu Ke found it very strange. The atmosphere of the Calvin family felt odd to him, as did Bart’s expression and Claude’s demeanor. Although Bart seemed genuinely affectionate towards Claude, Xu Ke didn’t believe their father-son relationship was so simple.
However, Xu Ke only keenly sensed something amiss but had no intention of investigating further. As long as it didn’t affect his plan, there was no need for him to know these things.
"No need for breakfast; I’m here to discuss something." Claude moved to the seat closest to Bart. The person originally sitting there quickly moved to the next position, and everyone, as if trained, swiftly adjusted their seats, considering past experiences. None dared to provoke Claude’s temper.
"I had originally planned to talk to you all individually, but because too many people are involved this time, tracking everyone down individually is far too time-consuming. You know, Dad, I have many things to handle and don’t have that much time to waste, so I had to come at a time when you all are present." Claude said as he brushed off non-existent dust from his suit.
"What is it you need to discuss?" Bart’s eyebrows twitched quickly, then restored to normal, as if nothing had happened.
"What I want to discuss is the matter of people in this room hiring an assassin." Claude coldly dropped a bombshell, instantly turning the previously quiet dining room lively.
"Big brother, perhaps there’s some misunderstanding between us." Someone couldn’t help but speak up.
"Who’s your big brother? My mother only has me as a child." Claude swept his gaze over, carrying a full chill.
"I misspoke. Young master, perhaps there’s some mistake. How could we possibly hire an assassin? Could there be some misunderstanding?" The person chuckled awkwardly and restated.
"Mistaken? Misunderstanding? Are you implying I am slandering you, or are you saying I lack the ability to see through such a simple matter?" Claude’s gaze faltered over, but it carried such an aura of oppression that the person under Claude’s stare lowered his head, unable to speak.
Bart discreetly glared at that person, cursing inwardly at their incompetence, caving in just like that, unlike the way Bart expected of his son, surely inherited from his good-for-nothing mother.
