Supreme Heir Son-in-law

Chapter 781: Something’s Wrong

Chapter 781: Something’s Wrong

It was probably because the mysterious beauty stole the spotlight last night that the boss had already been stopped by several people in just one morning, asking about the beauty.

"Don’t ask me these questions. I’m just a hotel owner, not a private detective. I really don’t know the answers," the boss replied helplessly while wiping the counter.

"If she comes back, you must tell me. My chance at a sweet romance depends on you. I fell in love with her at first sight." The man clasped his hands together, his face showing an utterly entranced expression, as if he was deeply in unrequited love.

The hotel owner looked at him with an indescribable expression, as if he didn’t know what to say about his behavior.

Just as always, Xu Ke quietly handled factory affairs. When he was done, he would return to the hotel, maybe drink a bit with the owner, eat a meal prepared by him, or help out with odd jobs at the little hotel.

On the surface, Xu Ke’s life seemed unchanged, but only he knew his room had visitors every night. The number of guests at the small hotel decreased every day, but he and the owner seemed to have a mutual understanding: one killed, the other cleaned up the mess.

Sometimes Xu Ke wondered if the hitmen knew each other, or were they trained by the same mentor? Otherwise, why did only one or two people visit his room every night, never more than two, as if prearranged? This seriously ruined Xu Ke’s experience, making him feel like he was playing a clock-in game, where he himself was the legendary tourist attraction.

While Xu Ke was still doing tasks and fighting enemies every night, someone who had been silently observing him began to get agitated.

"What’s going on? We’ve sent so many people, yet Xu Ke is still alive. How are they handling it? Did they just take our money and run?" A girl dressed in a Lolita outfit stood with her hands on her hips, complaining.

Her twin ponytails swayed slightly as she stomped in anger, making her look adorably fierce, if not for her mouth.

"You’re overthinking. In this line of work, their reputation is most important. The money we paid wouldn’t risk their careers for. Xu Ke is alive, but they can’t be contacted anymore. The only possibility is that they’re dead." Nancy concealed her disdain and displeasure towards the girl and spoke with a slight frown, her voice tinged with concern.

"Dead? How’s that possible? We sent so many people; even a wheel battle or human wave strategy should crush him. How could they have died?" The girl’s voice was sharp, like a rubber chicken being squeezed, piercing and unbearably unpleasant.

Nancy used tremendous self-control to stop herself from having the loud woman thrown out.

"Enough, stop making noise here. Even if you turn this place upside down, Xu Ke is still alive. You have time and energy to argue, better to think of a solution." Nancy said impatiently, frowning.

"What solution could I have? Who knew he’d be such a fighter?" The woman became agitated hearing Nancy’s words, her high heels clicking in the room.

"Can you stop walking around? The sound of your footsteps is driving me crazy." Nancy, annoyed by the constant sound, began to lose her temper, her usually gentle facade cracking to reveal her irritation.

"What can I do? When anxious, I need to walk. Not walking makes me restless." The woman lifted her skirt, sounding aggrieved, while still stomping around, creating that clicking noise.

"Enough, if you want to make that noise, do it in your own room. Calm down there before coming to me, or don’t bother me at all." Nancy waved her hand, and despite the woman’s displeasure, she was driven out of Nancy’s room.

"Why did I choose such a useless fool as a partner? Truly incapable of handling serious matters. Everything requires my help. Who knows how they earned father’s favor to be brought here; probably sheer dumb luck." Once the woman left, Nancy’s face displayed undisguised dislike and disdain for her.

A woman who had been an invisible presence in the room spoke after hearing Nancy’s complaints, "You should think differently. Such a foolish person is easy to control. If something goes wrong with Xu Ke, you can put all the blame on her and walk away unscathed."

The woman’s words calmed Nancy, "You’re right. She is the perfect scapegoat. I feel much better now. But Xu Ke is my biggest worry. I can’t rest until he’s dealt with." A steely determination appeared in Nancy’s eyes.

"What do you plan to do?" the woman asked.

"By any means necessary, I must destroy him. If he can’t be used by me, he’s meaningless. I liked him, if he’d help me or stayed neutral, I would’ve spared him. But he chose poorly, siding with Claude, so I must destroy him. Do you think I’m right?" Nancy asked the woman behind her.

"Of course, your decisions are always wise and timely," the woman praised.

"I enjoy talking to you. Arrange a meeting with Xu Ke, use a number that hasn’t been used before to contact him, and make him call me back. This small task shouldn’t be difficult for you, right?" Nancy asked, looking at the woman who appeared particularly respectful before her.

"Of course, I will use every means and effort to complete the task you assigned me," the woman humbly replied.

The woman was true to her word, Xu Ke really agreed to meet Nancy, even stating the meeting time and place over the phone. Anyone overhearing would think Xu Ke was asking Nancy out.

Nancy set down the phone, satisfaction curling her lips into a small smile as she stared at the screen.
