Chapter 778: The Second Night
Chapter 778: The Second Night
"What’s the matter? Just say it." Xu Ke looked at him, already having a rough guess in his mind about what was going on.
The boss nervously glanced at the entrance again. Seeing no one coming in, he quickly leaned over to Xu Ke’s ear and whispered, "I’ve discovered that it seems someone is following you, and not just one person. Look, these people only checked in after you did, and their working hours are closely tied to yours."
The boss’s finger pointed over a long list of names behind Xu Ke’s name.
While the two were talking, the hotel door opened, and some of those people who had followed Xu Ke out in the morning returned. The boss, already extremely nervous, shivered upon seeing this, and the notepad in his hand fell to the ground.
Xu Ke bent down, picked up the notepad for him, and then placed it back in the boss’s hand. With a faint smile on his face, he said, "Thank you for your kindness today. I know everything you’ve told me. Don’t worry, I won’t bring trouble to your hotel."
"That’s not what I meant. I’m afraid something may happen to you, don’t you understand?" Hearing Xu Ke’s words, the boss thought Xu Ke misunderstood him and anxiously grabbed Xu Ke’s hand, biting his teeth and whispering.
"Boss, send me a bottle of wine."
Just as the boss was about to say something else to Xu Ke, a seductive woman sat at the bar, propping her chin with one hand and looking at Xu Ke with enchanting eyes.
The boss swallowed back what he wanted to say, his expression slightly unnatural as he asked, "I don’t know what kind of drink you want?"
"Surprise me. I’m not quite sure which one tastes better or suits me," the woman said softly, her eyes hanging on Xu Ke like hooks.
"You’ve got a guest, so I’ll head back to my room. You don’t have to worry about this matter; I can handle it myself." Xu Ke said as he patted the boss on the shoulder and tried to leave, only to be stopped by the woman.
"Why leave, handsome? Look, the night’s so beautiful. Why don’t I treat you to a drink?" The woman stood up from her seat and walked in front of Xu Ke, gently resting her hand on his shoulder. Her enticing red lips lightly brushed against Xu Ke’s ear as she whispered, "I don’t have a boyfriend, and I’m sleeping alone tonight. You can come find me."
Xu Ke’s lips curled slightly as he removed her arm from his shoulder and whispered back in her ear, "I won’t drink with you, but if we really have a connection, you can knock on my door tonight. If you get it right, I’ll let you in."
After speaking, Xu Ke stepped back, creating a distance between them. "Thank you for the offer, miss, but it’s not convenient for me right now." Xu Ke furrowed his brow slightly, putting on a troubled expression, and then quickly walked upstairs, but as he was about to disappear up the stairs, he suddenly turned back, giving the woman a deep, suggestive look.
The boss poured the opened wine into a glass with ice and pushed it toward the woman. "Your drink."
The boss’s words interrupted the woman’s gaze towards the stairs, but it didn’t dampen her good mood. "I thought it would be hard to deal with, but in the end, he is just like ordinary men, unable to move when seeing a woman." The woman sneered disdainfully, muttering under her breath, and then once again flashed a smile, casually sipping her drink at the bar. She already knew Xu Ke’s room number, so she wasn’t in a hurry to find him.
She had the whole night to play with him, and the thought made her smile even more alluring.
The woman’s charm was irresistible. Not long after Xu Ke left, seeing that no one had approached the woman, someone finally couldn’t resist the urge any longer and walked over to her.
"Beautiful lady, may I have the honor of joining you for a drink?" A man with a big beard approached her and asked.
The woman’s eyes flicked up seductively. Perhaps confident of her success, she showed no intention of rejecting him, bantering with the men downstairs for a while before finally leaving the admiring men when she felt the time was right.
She adjusted her collar, swaying her hips as she walked toward Xu Ke’s room.
A knock sounded at the door, and Xu Ke put down the book he was holding, the corners of his mouth pulling into a smile devoid of humor.
The door opened, and the woman leaned against the door frame, slender fingers hooking Xu Ke’s shirt. "Why did you take so long to open the door? Surely there’s not another little vixen in there," she feigned jealousy.
"How could there be? Tonight, you’re all I want." Xu Ke said, his hand already on her wrist. In the next moment, she was pulled into the room, the door shut behind them, and she even heard him locking it.
The smile on her face became more bewitching, like a fully bloomed flower waiting for a bee to gather its nectar.
"You’re in such a hurry," she said, her small hand teasing Xu Ke’s chest, her touch light as a feather, tickling its way into his heart.
"Don’t you like me this way?"
"I do, why wouldn’t I? I can’t get enough. I wish I could strip you to the bone and swallow you whole," she whispered, quickly reaching for her thigh, only to be stopped midway by a hand.
The seductive expression on the woman’s face vanished instantly, a fierce glint in her eyes like a wolf under the moonlight. Her surprise only lasted a moment, and in the next, a toss of her hair revealed it as a sharp weapon. Xu Ke hadn’t expected her to hide weaponry in her hair, and for a moment wasn’t able to dodge, earning a few scratches on his neck and face.
One moment they were close, the next they’d pulled a meter apart, establishing a safe distance between them.
Xu Ke reached out to touch the scratches she had inflicted, his smile not only remained but became even gentler.
The woman frowned deeply, "When did you realize something was wrong? What did I do that tipped you off?" she asked, gripping a dagger in both hands.
"There were no flaws in you, but others were. There are more than just you trying to kill me now. I have to stay alert to everyone else, or I might not even know how I die," Xu Ke said with a laugh.
"Your hidden weapon is quite interesting, concealed in your hair—mind if I take a look?" Xu Ke asked sincerely, looking into her eyes.
"Want to see it? Sure, that is, if you’ve got the life to see it," she said, attacking Xu Ke with the daggers in her hands.
