Supreme Heir Son-in-law

Chapter 774 Be Careful

Chapter 774 Be Careful

"Perhaps it’s just not fate between us," Xu Ke remarked wistfully.

"Fate? I never believe in such things. Whether something can be achieved depends on effort. Relying on fate, destiny, and God is the most foolish thing. Since you refuse to help me and refuse to stand by my side, from now on, we’re enemies. I admire you, which is why I came to see you today and offered you a chance to join me. But I didn’t expect you to be so unaware of what’s good for you."

Albo’s eyes turned dangerously toward Xu Ke. "Do you think the one you’re following will laugh last? You’re too naive. The position of Family Head is contested by many—a prime target. Whoever wants that position will first deal with him. He’s up against so many of us. How long do you think he can hold on and laugh? Your judgment is really poor."

As Albo spoke, he bore a mocking smile, looking at Xu Ke as if he were a fool. He wanted to see Xu Ke flustered, but instead, Xu Ke stayed smiling, infuriatingly so.

"Don’t you have anything to say?" Albo waited for Xu Ke for a while, seeing that he remained silent, and finally couldn’t resist asking.

Xu Ke showed a look of sudden realization. "I thought you had more to say. Since you’re done, I’ll speak. We’ve finished eating, and I’ve been out for a while. I need to return to work now; the factory has just started running smoothly and needs me." Xu Ke stood up from his seat and, smiling at Albo, said, "Thanks for the meal. Let’s meet again another day."

Xu Ke left.

Albo was completely taken aback. He had said so much but achieved nothing, making him feel like he was the one talking to himself like a fool.

"Ah!" With a sweep of his long arm, Albo knocked everything off the table, the sound of objects hitting the ground and his angry roar drawing the attention of everyone in the diner, though he couldn’t care less. Xu Ke had really infuriated him.

"Xu Ke, you’re something else, really something! Just wait, there will come a day when you regret it." Albo kicked the table in front of him and stormed out of the fast-food restaurant, full of rage.

"You’re back. Why do you look so angry? Did the talk not go well today?" Job asked, holding a thick book, raising an eyebrow as he saw his brother returning with a face full of rage. He closed the book and casually placed it on the table.

"Don’t even mention it. I thought he was smart, but he’s unbelievably stupid. I even offered to let him manage one of the malls under my name. And what happened? He’s clinging to his little factory, babbling about fate. I think he’s just too stubborn to see sense and wants to go down with Claude’s ship."

"When Claude’s ship sinks, we’ll see how he cries!" Albo took a couple of deep breaths and concluded.

"I’m afraid he won’t live to see that day," Job said with deep meaning, looking at his brother’s puffed-up cheeks from anger.

"Brother, what do you mean by that?"

Job looked at his own dopey, foolish appearance and reached out to ruffle Albo’s hair, speaking, "My foolish brother, do you think we’re the only ones who noticed his huge mistake? Our father’s children are many in number. Aside from those who feed the babies, who doesn’t want that position? Who doesn’t see Claude as the biggest obstacle in their path? Who would allow a troublesome rival by his side?"

"So..."

"So unless he really switches allegiance, if he steadfastly follows Claude, his life will be nothing but trouble from now on. You might even see his death in the news in a few days. So there’s no need to be angry; just keep an eye on the papers. Who knows, you might see him on there someday." As he finished speaking, Job inexplicably pulled out a newspaper and slapped it onto Albo’s body.

Job went back to his unfinished book, while Albo looked dazed and bewildered holding the newspaper, unable to process what was happening.

Albo felt conflicted inside. By right, Xu Ke not only rejected him but also disregarded his words, making him an unappreciative person whom Albo should utterly dislike. But for some reason, the thought of Xu Ke potentially dying at someone else’s hands made him feel deeply uneasy rather than pleased.

Albo was never good at hiding his thoughts from his brother. Unable to figure it out himself, he could only turn to his brother for help. Job had only read a few lines of his book before it was closed and disappeared from view.

"What is it now?" Job asked his brother good-naturedly.

"I have a question. You see, Xu Ke disrespected me. I should be happy if he is down on his luck or even killed by someone else. But why am I not happy at all? Just thinking about the possibility makes my chest feel tight, like something is pressing on it and I can’t breathe."

Albo’s face was full of confusion.

Job rolled his eyes at Albo.

"I thought you were going to say something else, but it’s this. What’s there to question? You’re uncomfortable because you hate Xu Ke, but the person you hate won’t fall by your hand but be dealt with by someone else. That’s why you’re anxious and even feel like you can’t breathe. If you really can’t let it go, I’ll assign some people for you. You can tell them how you want Xu Ke to be treated or what end you want for him, and they’ll help you. Does thinking about it that way make you feel better?"

Whether Job was right or his words had a subconscious effect, Albo suddenly felt much better. The heavy feeling in his chest was completely gone.

"You’re right, I’m just upset that someone who offended me might die by someone else’s hand." Albo summed up his previous reaction.

"If that’s the case, I’ll fetch someone for you, and they’ll make sure you get it out of your system. After all, I only have you as my brother. If you bottle up some psychological issue over such an insignificant person, what will I do?" Job joked, successfully making his brother’s cheeks turn red.
