Chapter 1299 - 1298: Powerless
Chapter 1299 - 1298: Powerless
After all, all this was caused by my own foolishness, and I have no right to question it. I can only swallow all the bitterness.
After Xiao Zhen left the ward, he was not as relaxed as he appeared. He immediately threw his suit on the ground, unable to stand upright, suddenly kneeling on the hospital floor.
Passersby looked at him, thinking his family must have been diagnosed with a terminal illness. But upon a closer look, wasn’t this the famous Xiao Zhen?
Everyone started speculating. Thinking about how recently Xiao Zhen’s wife had an affair, they looked at Xiao Zhen, just feeling a shade of green on his head.
"Oh my God, as a man, I really sympathize with him. And despite having so much money, his wife still cheated on him. Maybe he has issues in that area?"
"If I were that woman, I definitely wouldn’t have an affair. Why leave such a good life to be with an old man?"
"And it’s been exposed by others. I heard before Xiao Zhen, Ye Jingli was a hostess who only went to a training class to learn some things and packaged herself differently, and Xiao Zhen fell for it. He deserves it!"
Listening to these comments, Xiao Zhen only felt a bitterness in his mouth. All of this had become a laughingstock to others, but he no longer cared.
He was completely exhausted, not even having the strength to stand. Was there anything more ridiculous than this? To think that he was crushed by such a woman. With this thought, Xiao Zhen felt useless and pounded his fist hard against the wall, feeling a burst of pain as blood flowed.
Zhu Ya looked at the man kneeling there, understanding from the comments. Her ex-husband had stained Xiao Zhen’s wife, and by reason and emotion, she shouldn’t approach.
But seeing the man in such a desperate state, Zhu Ya couldn’t bear it. She walked over, then turned back and took out a piece of paper from her pocket.
"Wipe the blood off your hand. Don’t hurt yourself over people not worth it. Life is long, don’t think it’s over. Don’t let your family worry for you."
After Zhu Ya finished speaking, she placed the paper in Xiao Zhen’s hand, and Xiao Zhen looked up at Zhu Ya with his reddened eyes.
He looked for a while, wanting to stand but just as he got up a bit, he fell again with a thud. Zhu Ya saw his unstable condition and extended a hand to support him.
"You’re too weak now; let me help you to the ward. Once the doctor says you’re stable, I’ll leave immediately. Rest assured, I seek nothing from you."
After Zhu Ya said this, she and a nurse who had come over, one on each side, supported Xiao Zhen into the ward.
After finishing all this, Zhu Ya left. Her daughter was still in the ward, and she wasn’t in the mood to sympathize with a stranger.
Her daughter, Mengmeng, had suddenly caught a cold at school yesterday, and recently her fever had made her more confused. It was only then that Zhu Ya applied for leave and brought her daughter to the hospital.
Her ex-husband had now realized his mistakes and constantly waited at the door.
Even the old lady kept waiting for her at her workplace after work. The family said they wanted to be together again, but could they really?
There was a barrier in everyone’s hearts, and it was impossible to be together again. This family didn’t know what they were imagining. If they knew the result, why bother with the beginning?
Just as she entered the ward, she saw Mengmeng reaching out her arms.
"Mom, you finally came. I missed you so much. Why didn’t you come to see me?"
Mengmeng said with an aggrieved face. It seemed like the nurse took good care of her, but the little one’s face was still flushed.
Zhu Ya felt much better, seeing her daughter. Zhu Ya realized she had a long road ahead and couldn’t give up on her daughter, living in loneliness in this world.
She reached out to hug her daughter: "Have you been listening to the nurse? You must rest well. Mom went to earn money for you, and I’ve already taken leave for you. Don’t worry, the teacher won’t blame you."
After Zhu Ya said this, she saw Mengmeng nodding emphatically: "Don’t worry, Mom. Even though I’m only six, I know you’re doing this for my good, so I won’t make a fuss. Plus, the nurse is nice to me. I’ll definitely listen to her. Why did you come today? Are you not busy today, Mom?"
The nurse nearby heard Mengmeng say this and looked at Zhu Ya. How could Zhu Ya not come and spend time with this sensible little girl? This little girl kept yearning for her mom daily.
Nowadays, people make money without caring for their kids. They’ll surely regret it later. But the nurse focused on doing her job and said nothing more, fearing that her words would displease them.
"Alright, you two talk. Spend time with your daughter. You don’t know how much she likes you. A parent should never fail their child."
The nurse sighed and left, while Mengmeng panicked, touching her mother’s face: "Mom, don’t listen to the nurse. I’ll be good; don’t distract yourself over me."
Although Zhu Ya was moved by her daughter’s understanding, she knew the nurse was right. She would make time for her daughter, but today time had run out. Further delay and her work would pile up.
Mengmeng saw her mother’s distress, though reluctant, she waved and held back tears, pushing her mom: "Mom, hurry to work, or your boss will scold you. I know how to take care of myself; please answer when I call."
Zhu Ya restrained her tears and left the ward, accidentally bumping into someone. It was Xiao Zhen, whom she had supported. Seeing Zhu Ya cry, he didn’t expect someone so kind to have troubles too?
Was it her family in trouble? Though Xiao Zhen shouldn’t have asked, he did: "Is there anything I can help you with?"
Zhu Ya shook her head and forced a smile.
"There’s nothing you can help with. I just can’t bear to leave my daughter. Anyway, I need to get back to work. You take care. Goodbye!"
After Zhu Ya finished speaking, she left. Xiao Zhen felt puzzled, surprised she was so young yet not single, a bit of regret in his heart. Just as he started to walk, he heard crying from the ward.
The woman just mentioned her child; could it be the child in this ward? But why did she leave?
