Chapter 1280 - 1279: Believing in Destiny
Chapter 1280 - 1279: Believing in Destiny
Xu Ke was completely unaware of all this. Seeing the old Mr. Xiao come in, he quickly pulled a chair for the elderly man, inviting him to sit down.
"I originally planned to wait for you, but since the company closes early, I came over a bit sooner."
Mr. Xiao nodded upon hearing Xu Ke’s explanation.
"Yiyi, how have you been feeling lately?"
"Don’t worry, Grandpa. I’ve almost fully recovered during this period."
Xu Ke, being very obedient, quietly peeled apples on the side, unable to join in the conversation of the grandfather and granddaughter. The butler, however, kept observing Xu Ke.
The more he looked, the more satisfied he felt, involuntarily sighing. What was his old friend thinking, wanting to marry Xiao Keyi to that unknown country boy? She’d be better off marrying Xu Ke. Although this young man doesn’t start with the advantages of those from prominent families, his capabilities are undeniable.
Upon hearing the butler’s sigh, Mr. Xiao turned to him, slightly puzzled.
"What’s wrong with you? Why do you keep sighing today? I don’t think I’ve wronged you, have you fallen ill? If you’re sick, go home earlier. Don’t catch a cold."
"I’m not sick, and you haven’t wronged me either. I’m just thinking... Alas!"
The butler glanced briefly at Xu Ke, and seeing this expression, Xu Ke felt uneasy but stood up, saying to the three of them: "Please feel free to talk. I’ll go get some water; it seems there’s no hot water. I’ll also buy some food."
Seeing Xu Ke sensibly walk away, the butler nodded in approval. Once Xu Ke was outside, Mr. Xiao frowned.
"Are you acting all mysterious on purpose? You scared others off. What exactly is this about?"
The butler looked at Xiao Keyi: "Sir, there’s something I must remind you of. You arranged a marriage for the young lady. If you’re really not satisfied, it’s better to cancel it quickly; it might delay the young lady."
Having pointed it out, Xiao Keyi cautiously looked at her grandfather, unsure whether he’d cancel the marriage. Mr. Xiao shook his head, "That boy, I don’t even know what he’s doing nowadays. How could I rashly cancel this marriage?"
"Alright, don’t mention this now. Leave it to be handled later."
Seeing Mr. Xiao still avoiding the issue, the butler didn’t press further.
Xiao Keyi now understood; her grandfather did acknowledge Xu Ke as a good person, but he also implied that letting go of the country boy wasn’t an option.
Thinking about this, Xiao Keyi felt more burdened. After considerable effort, at least Xu Ke now had a shadow of her in his heart.
Yet she couldn’t get past her grandfather’s approval. If it were her father, she wouldn’t worry at all, due to their strained relationship.
That relationship didn’t matter, but with her grandfather, it’s different. He’s her closest relative, and she couldn’t bear to upset him.
At this moment, Mr. Xiao, concerned that his granddaughter might become troubled about this, comforted her: "Yiyi, don’t be anxious about this. You’re still young, and that Taoist also mentioned that being with the person destined for you would be good. You got into a car accident after being with Xu Ke, although your father spoke wrongly about it, this matter still troubles me."
Upon finishing, Mr. Xiao sighed.
Comparing any issues to his granddaughter, Mr. Xiao found them insignificant.
When Xiao Keyi heard the accident being linked with Xu Ke again, she panicked: "Grandpa, I’ve told you countless times, this wasn’t Xu Ke’s fault. Why are you always against him?"
"It was my own careless driving, and the truck driver didn’t pay attention to the traffic lights. Dad agreed with you at the time, but why have your views changed after a few days?"
Xiao Keyi couldn’t comprehend her grandfather, someone so reasonable, now becoming like this.
Blaming everything on Xu Ke would mean her grandfather wouldn’t let her associate with Xu Ke in the future.
Thinking of this, Xiao Keyi felt thoroughly disappointed, realizing her grandfather was no different from her father. At this moment, seeing the smile disappear from her face, Mr. Xiao became anxious, holding her hand to explain.
"Yiyi, things aren’t as you think. Xu Ke is indeed excellent, but we should also believe in destiny. Feng shui isn’t something anyone can predict."
"Even though the accident wasn’t Xu Ke’s fault, it shows he isn’t your destined help. If he were, such an incident wouldn’t have occurred."
The butler sighed; late in life, Mr. Xiao became obsessed with feng shui theories, believing everything is preordained. The butler couldn’t convince him; he could only observe Xiao Keyi’s decision.
At this time, looking at her grandfather, Xiao Keyi felt extremely disappointed.
"Grandpa, those theories are false. Besides, if everything is truly predestined, what’s the point of living? Enough, I don’t want to discuss this anymore. Xu Ke will be back soon."
Looking at the door, Xiao Keyi didn’t want Xu Ke to know, so she stopped her grandfather from speaking. Seeing his granddaughter angry again over this, Mr. Xiao could only give a bitter smile.
But Mr. Xiao had made up his mind not to let his granddaughter continue interacting with Xu Ke.
After buying some food, Xu Ke brought it inside, seeing that they seemed to have finished talking, but the atmosphere felt heavy. Before leaving, the butler had kept observing him; perhaps it was about him.
But he couldn’t expose it now, so he placed the food on the small dining table.
"I’ve brought the food back, but I’m not sure what you’d like. I bought several things randomly, hoping you can settle for these. If not, we could have food delivered."
As soon as Xu Ke finished, Xiao Keyi eagerly uncovered her blanket, moving to the small table with delight.
"Everything you bought is my favorite. It’s perfect; after this, I won’t need to eat anything else."
Hearing his granddaughter’s words, Mr. Xiao looked over, seeing her favorite braised eggplant, Kung Pao chicken, and cucumber salad. The remaining dishes seemed to be prepared for the others.
