Chapter 1278 - 1277: Unambitious
Upon hearing it was an old friend, Yu Jian was momentarily stunned, because since returning to the country, it seemed that few old friends had stayed in touch.
Just as Yu Jian was wondering who this old friend could be, the voice of Dr. Zhao came over the line.
"Hey, Old Yu, have you forgotten already? Can’t remember?"
"Weren’t you at my hospital a lot a few years ago for all sorts of ailments? I never thought a trip abroad would make you forget old friends."
After hearing Dr. Zhao’s words, Yu Jian suddenly remembered. Just a few years ago, whenever someone in the family fell ill, Yu Jian would certainly have them see Dr. Zhao. Despite being an obstetrician, Dr. Zhao was actually proficient in treating various rare diseases.
"Oh, how could I forget an old friend like you? Don’t worry, no matter where I go, I won’t forget you. It’s just that I’ve been busy with work since I got back, so I haven’t caught up with you."
Hearing this, Dr. Zhao felt a bit relieved; at least this old friend hadn’t forgotten him, otherwise making this call would have been awkward.
After recalling his own matters, he was unsure if his friend would want to hear it, which made him feel a bit uneasy.
"By the way, Old Zhao, why did you call today? Is there something troubling you? Just let me know if there’s anything, and I’ll help you solve it for sure."
Hearing the tone on the other end, Dr. Zhao hesitated for a moment, which made Yu Jian even more worried.
"Alright, just tell me what’s going on. Why are you being so evasive? We’ve been friends for so many years. Do you look down on me now?"
"No, it’s not that I look down on you. I’m just not sure how to tell you. When I was at the hospital earlier, I ran into your son, but he came for a paternity test and said it was for a friend."
Dr. Zhao knew he shouldn’t have brought this up, especially since it involved the family affairs of an old friend, and regretted it immediately after speaking.
"Ah, don’t worry about this. I asked him at the time, and he said it was for a friend. Later it seemed no longer necessary. I just have a bit of a loose tongue. By the way, when can we get together for tea?"
However, Yu Jian was taken aback all at once, because he knew that his son didn’t have many friends in the country. Moreover, his son had autism as a child and was even less likely to have friends, knowing only Xiao Keyi.
This left Yu Jian with no choice but to be suspicious, and thinking his son might have made other friends recently only made him angrier.
He sent his son abroad for studies and provided the best education, not for him to mess around, but so he could take over the Yu Group and lead it to greater heights. But now his son was hanging out with a questionable crowd, which made him furious.
"It’s nothing. It’s probably just helping a friend. Let’s arrange for some tea when we have time."
After hanging up the phone, Dr. Zhao shook his head, wondering why he had meddled in matters that were none of his business. Fortunately, Old Yu wasn’t upset given their long-standing friendship, or he really wouldn’t know how to explain.
Meanwhile, Yu Jian threw his phone hard onto the coffee table. Having raised a son, he didn’t expect this kind of behavior from him. How could he be okay with this?
The maid, who was wiping the table nearby, shivered at the noise: "Sir~"
Yu Jian glared fiercely at the maid: "Has the young master brought anyone else to the house these days?"
Upon hearing Yu Jian’s question, the maid shook her head, seemingly genuinely indicating no one had been brought to the house. Yu Jian sighed; where exactly was the problem?
"Oh, right, although the young master hasn’t brought anyone home, he has been diligently working. I’m not sure why he suddenly came home today and even went to the old master’s room, apparently looking for something, before leaving again."
Hearing the maid’s words, Yu Jian’s eyes widened. His son normally wouldn’t enter his room, and he knew his son was aware of his temper and dislike of others entering the room.
Why did his son insist on entering the room this time? Could it be because of the paternity test?
Thinking of this possibility, Yu Jian felt a sting in his heart. After so many years of raising his son, did they need a paternity test to confirm their father-son relationship?
A sarcastic smile curled on his lips, and the maid, noticing this scene, hurried to another place, deciding it best to stay away from the master lest he get even more upset.
"Did he take anything else?"
The maid shook her head in response. The items in the master’s room were all too large: "The young master left empty-handed and even told me not to tell you."
After the maid said this, Yu Jian became even more suspicious.
"Alright, you can go about your business."
Hearing this, the maid felt as if given a pardon and quickly left with the cloth to another place; the master’s expression was downright terrifying just now. What had happened? Could it be that the young master had stolen something?
As a maid, she truly couldn’t comprehend, so she chose not to dwell on it, hurrying to carry out her duties.
Yu Jian then slowly walked to his bedroom, noticing nothing else had been disturbed.
At this moment, the sound of cursing emerged from the hallway.
"Why did you mop the floor so wet? Couldn’t you have done it sooner? I almost slipped! Are you blind?"
Upon hearing this voice, Yu Jian stepped out of the bedroom, while the woman, upon seeing Yu Jian, immediately put on a smile and softly approached him.
"Why are you home today? Weren’t you going to the company to oversee Hao’er?"
Seeing the woman so dependent on him, Yu Jian let go of his suspicion, even thinking how despicable it was of him to doubt his own child.
"I just thought our Hao’er is incredibly capable and doesn’t need us, so I stayed at home. Besides, haven’t you said you feel bored being here alone these days? So I thought I’d take you out."
Upon hearing this, the woman bowed her head, though her heart was full of hatred. The man before her had another woman outside, yet now he spoke such sweet words, which truly made her sick.
Still, she couldn’t reveal this on the surface, so she put on a face of surprise.
