Chapter 1004 - 1003: Still Alive

Chapter 1004 - 1003: Still Alive

On the other side, Tangtang and Guoguo, two sisters who have already been sentenced to death, lie on the ground beneath the tongzi building.

Should one say that the two sisters are lucky or unlucky?

If they are to be considered lucky, everything they endured tonight was a disaster without hope, clearly they have always been honest in working and living, even though they don’t like the environment around the tongzi building, they have not offended anyone else.

Yet they were somehow targeted by thugs and hooligans, scared into a sweat late at night, not to mention losing their innocence; had they not risked their lives jumping off the building, who knows what they would’ve faced.

However, it’s not entirely accurate to say Tangtang and Guoguo are unlucky either.

Their home is on the 6th floor, and when they jumped, they were already prepared to live with permanent paralysis or meet death by taking the fatal leap.

But heaven didn’t take them; during their fall, a large tree blocked them, dense leaves and branches cushioned the impact, so when they hit the ground, they didn’t lose their lives. They merely lay on the ground, unable to move temporarily.

Tangtang and Guoguo sustained varying degrees of injuries, but the damage wasn’t enough to kill them or paralyze them.

One could say their lives were spared; they only suffered some minor injuries.

Tangtang and Guoguo looked up at the star-filled sky, then turned to face each other, looking into one another’s eyes, slowly revealing a smile.

"People say if you survive a great disaster, good fortune surely follows. Sister, do you think our fortune is coming?" Guoguo lightly coughed and, with a smile, turned to Tangtang and spoke.

Tangtang seemed infected by Guoguo’s spirit, regaining his senses from shock and relief, looking tenderly at Guoguo, "That’s for sure, heaven couldn’t possibly treat us poorly forever, right? After all, we haven’t done anything terrible; we could be considered quite well-behaved," Tangtang replied.

The sisters carried hope within their gazes as they looked quietly at each other’s faces, laughing for a moment, appearing silly like the fool in the village.

Though they escaped with their lives, they broke their leg when they fell; fortunately, it wasn’t both legs, just one.

Both sisters also broke a hand, painfully coughing while struggling to get up from the ground.

Supporting each other, they walked with difficulty back to their room, which took them more than half an hour.

Finally, they managed to return to the rental house, and unfolding the scene, they spotted the man still lying unconscious on the ground.

But Tangtang and Guoguo had no strength left for this man; they couldn’t perform any intense or skilled movements.

The only thing they could do now was obediently dial the hospital’s emergency number and find somewhere relatively safe to sit down and wait for the ambulance.

Carrying their phone, bank card, and ID documents, the sisters slowly made their way down the building.

Perhaps it’s due to being in the suburbs that the hospital’s ambulance arrived late; by the time it came, more than half an hour had passed.

Out in the cold, the sisters’ limbs had become icy, and the broken leg and foot showed varying degrees of swelling, unable to move at all.

The sisters were lifted onto the ambulance stretcher, and from appearance to departure, the process took just minutes, during which no one in the tongzi building emerged.

The tongzi building resembled a dead structure, without a hint of vitality or warmth; even the medical staff felt a chill in their spines, sensing a cold aura in the air.

The reason they took their ID documents was that they felt the tongzi building was unsafe, no longer suitable for living.

Today they barely escaped from those three men, but they couldn’t be certain of having the same luck tomorrow, the next day, or thereafter.

Hence, rather than risking it, it was better to move out directly.

But their foremost concern now wasn’t where to move, but how to afford the medical expenses.

The sisters’ cards lacked enough money to cover their medical bills, leaving them troubled as they exchanged looks filled with long-absent embarrassment.

Guoguo eventually spoke first, "Doctor, we don’t currently have enough money to cover our surgical expenses, could you possibly allow us to delay until our injuries heal enough to pay?" Guoguo bit her lip and awkwardly addressed the doctor.

"I’m sorry, while I sympathize with you, we must adhere to hospital protocols; if you can’t provide the money, I’m unable to authorize treatment, please understand our situation."

The doctor treating Tangtang and Guoguo looked apologetically at the sisters, sympathizing in his heart but unable to risk violating protocol.

Hospitals operate under regulations, and sympathy isn’t enough for exceptions; if misfortune warrants exceptions, the hospital might as well be a Red Cross.

Tangtang and Guoguo understood the doctor’s predicament, but they indeed had no money for the fees, and their injuries couldn’t go untreated.

With bone fractures, delaying treatment risked amputation.

This concerned their whole lives and couldn’t be postponed.

The sisters showed their troubled faces, as if recalling something, Tangtang looked nervously at Guoguo.

Just that glance was enough for Guoguo to know what Tangtang intended to say—reaching out to Xu Ke was their only hope.

Looking back, they had fiercely argued with Xu Ke, resolved in their hearts, and packed their things to leave their home.

Now, returning felt akin to hitting oneself, leaving them decidedly uncomfortable.
