Chapter 1940 - 1941: Luring the Snake Out of Its Hole! (Second Update)

"Protect the lord!"

Just as Ye Qiu’s sword nearly cut through Li Xiaosheng’s chest, two guards by his side sprang into action.

Ye Qiu glanced swiftly around but paid no attention, swinging the Bahuang Sword down once again.

"Stop him for me!" Li Xiaosheng shouted. He realized he was gravely wounded by Ye Qiu, and although he was furious that someone dared attempt to kill him, a prodigy of the Taiyi Divine Sect, this was not the time for rage. Survival was paramount.

The two guards drew their swords and stabbed forward with incredible speed, distinctly unlike ordinary guards.

Ye Qiu’s heart shuddered; these were two Martial Artists of the Returning Ruins Realm. Yet, he remained unfazed, continuing to aim at Li Xiaosheng.

"Courting death."

The guards’ swords gleamed with a cold light, about to strike Ye Qiu’s back. Suddenly, unbeknownst to anyone, a shadow silently appeared behind them, and in an instant, the two guards were killed.

Li Xiaosheng had hoped the guards could delay Ye Qiu briefly, allowing him to escape. Once out of this room, someone would surely notice him, and the people of the Taiyi Divine Sect would arrive immediately.

Hmm?

"A Saint!"

Li Xiaosheng frowned sharply, sensing the situation was dire. Ye Qiu had suddenly injured him, and now there was a Saint aiding him. Li Xiaosheng didn’t want a fatal confrontation with Ye Qiu. His gaze swept around as he prepared to retreat, aiming to escape through the window.

In these circumstances, engaging in a head-on clash was utterly foolish.

"You can’t escape." Ye Qiu wouldn’t let Li Xiaosheng leave. They were too close to the Taiyi Divine Sect. If Li Xiaosheng got away, in just a few breaths, strong warriors from the sect would arrive, making it harder to kill him. And if Li Xiaosheng wasn’t dead, how would Ye Qiu draw out the Supreme Saint?

Taking out Li Xiaosheng was merely Ye Qiu’s way of collecting some interest first.

The Bahuang Sword swung down, restraining the Sword Qi yet revealing its sharpness. This strike descended with overpowering momentum, causing Li Xiaosheng’s heart to pound with dread. He knew if struck again, he’d be split in two.

"You’ve forced my hand." Li Xiaosheng crushed a Jade Pendant, instantly summoning a phantom. Upon its appearance, Ye Qiu froze, then his gaze turned cold.

Supreme Saint!

Kill!

Facing the Supreme Saint’s phantom, killing intent surged inside Ye Qiu. His eyes turned red once more; it was this fellow who had destroyed the ancient land and almost killed him.

Today, though just a phantom, he must be slain by Ye Qiu’s hand.

Swish, swish, swish.

Ye Qiu’s Bahuang Sword executed three moves: slash, point, and flick, clashing with the phantom.

However, the phantom of the Supreme Saint was remarkably powerful, resembling the true form of a Saint. Even without speaking, his presence was intimidating, a palm strike coming directly.

Li Xiaosheng’s lips were bleeding, yet he smiled: "You’re doomed."

With the Supreme Saint’s phantom intervening, Ye Qiu couldn’t stop him.

Then, Li Xiaosheng turned and leapt toward the window.

Not good!

Ye Qiu, facing the Supreme Saint’s phantom, also noticed Li Xiaosheng trying to flee the room.

"Stop him."

Ye Qiu no longer worried about the phantom, shouting loudly as the Saint’s avatar, which had just dealt with the two guards, joined him in battling the phantom.

On the other side, Ye Qiu had no time to think. He urgently invoked the power of the Dao, unleashing the Six Paths Gate. A desiccated hand emerged at once as Li Xiaosheng jumped out the window.

"When the sect’s warriors arrive, I will surely make you suffer to death." Li Xiaosheng was not angry but furious inside. Ye Qiu almost killed him, and if not for the means left by his elders, he’d never see the sunlight outside again.

Li Xiaosheng looked at Ye Qiu’s disappointed face at the window, his heart increasingly smug, convinced Ye Qiu wouldn’t dare follow; he should be fleeing instead.

Suddenly, for some reason, Li Xiaosheng felt his soul tremble. Then, he saw a desiccated hand reaching out from the window, grabbing him.

"No... Impossible... My soul... How can I be separated from my body..."

Li Xiaosheng was terrified; he found his body falling rapidly as his soul was seized by the desiccated hand, drawing him back toward the window.

Soon, he realized the hand extended from the light ring on Ye Qiu’s chest.

He saw all sorts of bizarre creatures and struggled constantly, but to no avail, as he was swiftly pulled into the Six Paths Gate.

Thus, Li Xiaosheng was utterly dead.

Meanwhile, outside, a thud echoed as Li Xiaosheng’s body hit the ground, yet without a soul, the chance of survival gradually vanished.

A commotion arose outside, and as Ye Qiu turned around, the Saint’s avatar had already exterminated the Supreme Saint’s phantom, erasing it completely.

Ye Qiu knew he must leave now, or it would be too late.

Swish.

With a sweep of the Bahuang Sword, Huang Yu, who was preparing to seize another’s wife for heinous acts, was slain by Ye Qiu in one stroke, his life snuffed out instantly.

Killing Huang Yu was decisively done, but what should he do about this couple?

He couldn’t very well kill them too.

He had heard the conversation inside the room clearly; this man intended to take another’s wife, deserving of death. But Liu Da and his wife were innocent, and he couldn’t just kill them for seeing his face.

Yet, if he didn’t kill them, the Taiyi Divine Sect would come, and once they performed a Soul Search, his identity would be exposed.

"Enough..." Ye Qiu put away the Bahuang Sword and said to Liu Da and his wife, "I don’t wish to kill you, nor do I want you to expose me, so forgive me."

Ye Qiu had to resort to using Soul Power again to erase their memories quickly; there was no time left.

Liu Da felt grateful to Ye Qiu; if not for him, he might have experienced lifelong torment.

"My lord, you may erase our memories," Liu Da said, knowing strong warriors possessed such abilities.

Ye Qiu nodded, relieved the couple accepted, sparing him a forced move. He then placed his hand on their heads, using his formidable Soul Power to remove all they had just seen.

After completing this, Ye Qiu’s heart raced, a sense of danger rising; he felt a powerful presence descending upon the scene.

"Go!"

Ye Qiu flipped his hand, producing the Supreme Emperor Bell. As Liu Da and his wife fell unconscious, Ye Qiu and the Saint’s avatar swiftly hid inside.

In an instant, Ye Qiu vanished.

Just a couple of breaths after Ye Qiu’s disappearance, a figure quietly appeared in the room. If Ye Qiu were present, he’d surely recognize him — none other than the Supreme Saint he struggled to eliminate.

In the Supreme Saint’s arms lay Li Xiaosheng’s corpse.

Surveying the signs of battle and the dead Huang Yu, the unconscious Liu Da couple, the Supreme Saint’s gaze revealed no emotion. Soon, more warriors from the Taiyi Divine Sect arrived, starting the pursuit of the assassin.

Suddenly, the city’s atmosphere grew tense; a prodigy of the Taiyi Divine Sect was slain near their home, a great disgrace to the sect.

Among those most enraged was the Supreme Saint; Li Xiaosheng was raised by him personally. Though unable to claim the title of Saint Heir, he believed he could surely transform Li Xiaosheng into a true Saint.

Within the Taiyi Divine Sect, no one dared disturb the Supreme Saint; even the Sect Leader merely sent someone to extend condolences, hoping the Supreme Saint wouldn’t grieve excessively.

For the sect’s higher-ups knew Li Xiaosheng was the Supreme Saint’s sole blood descendant.

But Ye Qiu didn’t know that; he understood Li Xiaosheng and the Supreme Saint to have a master-disciple relationship, hence hoped to draw out the snake from Li Xiaosheng—how could he know they were father and son?

Undoubtedly, had Ye Qiu known, he would have been even happier.

An eye for an eye, after all.

The Supreme Saint had destroyed the ancient land, while Ye Qiu killed his son—this cycle of cause and effect was profound and indescribable.
