Chapter 329: Clingy Spirit
Chapter 329: Clingy Spirit
Over the next few days, Ou Jue became insanely clingy.Yes, you read that right.
Imagine a cold and lofty Demon King insisting on staying on the phone with you all the time.
The early summer weather was starting to heat up.
In the evening, Xiyan sat by her little desk fan, wearing headphones and chatting with Ou Jue over the phone.
In truth, the two often spent long stretches of time without saying a word.
Like now—Ou Jue was working, while Xiyan lay in bed reviewing the schedule for a show she’d be attending in a few days.
The success of her short film had reignited her popularity, and this weekend, she would be appearing on a radio show.
The atmosphere between them was perfect.
Even without speaking, neither of them felt awkward in the slightest.
After a while, Xiyan started to feel her eyelids growing heavy.
"Ou Jue, I’m going to sleep now," she said.
Translation: I’m hanging up now, babe.
Ou Jue: "Mm."
Mm? What kind of "mm" is that?
Xiyan’s lips twitched. "Fine, I’m hanging up the phone, okay?"
"No, don’t."
"But I need to sleep!"
"Then you sleep, I’ll listen."
"Listen to what? I’ll be asleep!"
"Not your concern." Just hearing her breathing was a rare kind of peace for him.
Xiyan: ...
She tugged her light blanket over herself. "Okay then, I’m really going to sleep."
The pen in Ou Jue’s hand halted slightly as he signed a document. "Xia Xiyan, do you know what ’goodnight’ really means?"
"Of course I do."
Goodnight = wanan = I love you, love you.
Ou Jue’s voice dropped to an alluring, husky tone. "Goodnight."
!!
Ahhhh, why does even going to bed have to turn into him flirting? Her heart couldn’t help but start pounding uncontrollably again! QAQ
As the soft rhythm of their breaths lingered in her ears, Xiyan drifted off into dreamland.
She had an exceptionally wild dream.
"Mmh..." She stirred and turned over in her sleep.
Then, Xiyan’s eyes suddenly flew open.
She bolted upright in a mix of embarrassment and panic.
Who am I? Where am I?
How could I have THAT kind of dream?!
The dream had been so vivid, so real, that even now her face was still flushed.
And the worst part—
Was that she had fallen asleep last night *while still on the phone with Ou Jue*!!
Okay, deep breaths... Calm down, calm down...
Xiyan forced herself to stay composed and cautiously spoke up, "Ou Jue?"
"Mm." That low, steady voice came through her headphones on cue.
Xiyan felt her soul leave her body. "You... you really didn’t hang up the call last night?"
"Why hang up?"
"T-Then, did you hear anything you weren’t supposed to?!"
There was a brief pause before the person on the other end responded in a calm, faint tone. "No."
Phew! She let out a sigh of relief.
"Alright, I’m going to go freshen up. I’ll call you back later," Xiyan said.
"Mm." Ou Jue responded nonchalantly, pulling off his Bluetooth earpiece.
He leaned back into his chair, tilting his sharp, handsome face slightly upward.
His long fingers threaded into his dark hair, sweeping his bangs out of his eyes, making his features appear even more defined and striking.
The sound of that girl’s soft murmurs from her dream still seemed to echo faintly in his ears...
Over the next few days, Xiyan was bombarded with romantic confessions left and right.
It felt like her love life was blossoming uncontrollably, one peach blossom after another blooming in full force.
And every single time a guy approached her, someone managed to snap suspiciously misleading photos and send them straight to Ou Jue in America.
Xiyan was so exhausted from trying to appease this sulking Demon King of hers that she felt like coughing up blood.
Ugh, who was doing this?! Could it be Xia Shiyi?! Trying to make her and Ou Jue fight like this? How despicable!
Friday after school.
Walking out of the school gates, Xiyan was greeted by the sight of yet another luxury car parked outside.
And next to it was yet another unfamiliar guy holding a bouquet of flowers.
Tightening her grip on her backpack straps, Xiyan took a step back and preemptively blurted out, "Let me guess—you’re about to say you like me, want to date me, and you don’t care that I already have a boyfriend, right?"
This was the third day in a row now. Every single day, another guy showed up to confess his feelings to her!
There was no way her love luck had suddenly become *this* amazing. And perfectly synchronized, too!
Ignoring the guy completely, Xiyan turned instead to scan her surroundings for hidden onlookers.
Someone had to be lurking in the shadows, waiting to snap pictures to send to Ou Jue!
Today, she *had* to catch whoever it was in the act!
The moment her gaze locked onto one suspiciously evasive figure, Xiyan’s eyes lit up with determination. She strode over decisively. "Come out. I already know it’s you. Who sent you to pull this silly stunt? You—"
But as soon as she yanked the person out from hiding, Xiyan froze on the spot.
"Grandma?!"
Old Madam Ou jumped in fright. Damn it, this sharp little girl actually found her out!
Feigning composure, the elderly woman said, "Oh my, Xiyan, what a coincidence running into you here!"
Xiyan blinked. "Grandma, don’t tell me you’ve been the one sending all those photos to Ou Jue?"
"It wasn’t me, it wasn’t me!" Old Madam Ou frantically waved off the accusation, hurriedly hiding her camera behind her back. But presented with the irrefutable evidence, she finally muttered sheepishly, "Fine, it was me... or rather, I had my people send them..."
Xiyan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Grandma, what’s your goal here?"
"Wahhh," the old lady whined dramatically. "It’s just that Grandma wanted to give Little Jue a sense of urgency, to motivate him to work harder so he’d come back sooner!" She heaved a sigh, looking as though she had exhausted her maternal instincts to the bone for her grandson’s sake.
Xiyan: ...
Seriously, do all grandmas have this much energy these days?
The old lady tugged pitifully at Xiyan’s sleeve. "Xiyan, my sweet girl, you’re not mad at Grandma, are you? I swear it all comes from a good place!"
"I’m not mad, Grandma. But... did Ou Jue tell you when he’s planning to come back?"
The elderly woman immediately straightened, shaking her head furiously. "Nope, no idea, not a clue!!"
Really?
Xiyan frowned. Why did it feel like Grandma was hiding something from her...
-
Saturday morning.
Today, Xiyan was scheduled to appear on a radio program.
As her current manager, Mu Zeyu had driven her to the station and was lecturing her non-stop about the dos and don’ts along the way.
"Got it! You’ve repeated the same thing so many times that my ears are practically growing calluses!"
"You—this girl—don’t you get that I’m worried about you? It’s your first public appearance in a while; it’s natural to feel a little nervous." Mu Zeyu flicked her forehead lightly. "Take advantage of the lingering buzz around your short film. Seize this opportunity. In a few days, we’ll be partnering with Strawberry Live to host your official comeback press conference. Think of today’s radio appearance as a warm-up!"
