Chapter 2236 - 2300: The Saintess Admits Defeat (Happy Spring Festival)
Struggling to carry Li Yifei’s body out of the pit, the Saintess realized his injuries were even worse than imagined. Both his legs seemed broken, his back was a bloody mess, his head was covered in dried blood, and there wasn’t a single part of his body that was unharmed. Tears streamed down the Saintess’s face, especially when she saw the penetrating wound in Li Yifei’s abdomen. She fell into self-reproach, thinking that without this wound, Li Yifei’s situation might be somewhat better. But she didn’t have time to grieve too much. Glancing at the shore, their yacht was still there, and the Saintess had to quickly carry Li Yifei back; otherwise, under the blazing sun, exposure would worsen his condition.
This short distance seemed like a long journey for the Saintess. Even walking was exhausting, let alone carrying Li Yifei. It took almost an hour to drag him onto the deck and carry him into the cabin, directly onto the bed. Without taking a rest, the Saintess carefully cut open what little remained of Li Yifei’s clothes, took out the first aid kit and some bottles of white spirit, deciding to use the spirit later, and first cleaned Li Yifei’s wounds.
Fortunately, Li Yifei still had a heartbeat; otherwise, the Saintess thought she couldn’t bear to live. No heartbeat meant death, and although death would mean the Saintess could declare victory over her inner demons, that victory would remove one demon only to leave another that would haunt her for life.
This cleaning lasted from day to night. During that time, the Saintess almost fainted but persisted, even stabbing her own leg to stay conscious.
Finally done with cleaning, the Saintess carefully bandaged Li Yifei, only to find some areas couldn’t be bandaged at all. A whole roll of gauze was used up, yet only a part of the wounds were covered.
"Why did you do this? You’re so foolish. I tried to kill you, you should have just run away. Why bother with me?" Tears streamed down the Saintess’s face. She could be ruthless, but this was someone she loved; how could she truly be heartless?
Li Yifei, of course, couldn’t answer her, as he had already lost consciousness. The reason he hadn’t died was the Worm, the Innate Vital Energy, and other factors were sustaining his life. Otherwise, even as an Innate Expert, he’d be hard-pressed to survive being blown up by a bomb.
Crying enough, the Saintess saw no sign of improvement in Li Yifei’s condition. She knew she had to get him to land and to a hospital as soon as possible. She understood her own state required immediate treatment too, but she simplified it for herself by taking a shower, cleaning her wounds slightly, and sitting beside Li Yifei to gradually recover through cultivation.
One session took three to four days. When she woke and checked the time, she realized five days had passed since their battle. The two had been buried for several days.
Her body had recovered somewhat. Like Li Yifei’s True Qi, the Saintess could also heal herself through cultivation. Li Yifei remained unchanged, with some wounds starting to fester. The Saintess quickly attended to them.
"Hang in there, Yifei. To me, you’re a miracle. Many things about you aren’t something normal people or even people like us can accomplish!" The Saintess held Li Yifei’s hand, tearless yet heartbroken.
Soon, the Saintess discovered a distressing fact: she couldn’t navigate the boat, and the communication equipment was broken, preventing contact with the outside world. Bringing Li Yifei to shore for medical treatment seemed improbable. The area’s remoteness meant even passing boats were rare.
"Is he really going to hang on like this?" the Saintess thought, growing agitated. Of course, taking him to a hospital wasn’t guaranteed to save Li Yifei’s life. She was momentarily anxious but regained composure, performing Holy Light Baptism multiple times a day for Li Yifei, which had a healing effect.
Luckily, Li Yifei didn’t remain unconscious for long. On the fourth day of the Saintess’s treatment, he woke up, weak but alive. His awakening meant he could continue healing himself, a positive turn.
"Yifei, I’m sorry!" The Saintess said, filled with guilt.
Li Yifei shook his head slightly, "You don’t need to be. There’s nothing to apologize for."
"I put you in danger. If you hadn’t saved me..."
Li Yifei’s fingers twitched. Although he had recently awoken, and his body improved significantly, he remained weak, needing a few more days for full recovery. Speaking was a strain.
"Now, we need to address one thing."
"What is it?" The Saintess asked, licking her dry lips and staring intensely.
Li Yifei managed a small smile, looked at the Saintess, and weakly asked, "Who won?"
Who won! The Saintess’s expression shifted, as she’d focused solely on Li Yifei’s survival, ignoring even what was most important to her. Upon hearing Li Yifei’s question, she was reminded of the matter.
Who won? The Saintess hesitated, lowered her head slightly, showing an internal struggle. Li Yifei didn’t rush her, noting her dissatisfaction, he jokingly said, "How about we fight again? Or, if you kill me now, you’ll defeat your inner demon."
"No!" Despite Li Yifei’s smiling suggestion, the Saintess felt a sharp heartache. She felt sorry not for herself but for Li Yifei! "Yifei, you’ve done so much for me; why can’t I do something for you? You nearly got blown up... How can I pursue those meaningless advances? I lost, Yifei. I lost thoroughly and fell in love with you completely!"
"There, don’t cry. Don’t rush into this decision. We’ve plenty of time to settle this..."
"No, I lost, Yifei. Since you defeated the Hellhound, I’ve lost. Beyond that, I have no strength left to fight you!"
"Who says you have no options?"
The Saintess blinked in confusion, and Li Yifei continued, "If you kiss me now, I’ll be utterly powerless, see? It’s easy for you to defeat me!"
A peculiar smile crossed the Saintess’s face. After several seconds, she suddenly stood up, leaned forward, and kissed Li Yifei on the face, whispering softly, "Yifei, rest well. I concede; I’m yours from now on."
"I have no strength left..." Li Yifei breathed deeply and closed his eyes.
"Hmm?" The Saintess looked at him worriedly, checking him over. "What’s wrong, Yifei?"
"Legend says a princess can awaken a prince with a kiss. I’ve been in a coma so long, maybe you should’ve tried that earlier," Li Yifei muttered.
The Saintess paused, realizing Li Yifei’s humor. Laughing softly, she leaned down again and kissed his lips lightly, like a butterfly’s touch.
Li Yifei felt content as he opened his eyes and looked at the Saintess, saying, "Baby, I’m yours now. If anyone bullies me, make sure to stand up for me!"
Amused by Li Yifei’s strange remark, the Saintess nodded, declaring, "Okay, I’ll protect you from now on!"
"That’s more like it." Li Yifei closed his eyes contentedly, saying, "I’ll sleep a bit longer. I’ve never faced a missile head-on before, but now I’m a hero if word gets out."
"You’re already my hero," the Saintess murmured. Li Yifei quickly drifted into sleep—not a coma, but a conscious sleep that helped him heal better.
Watching Li Yifei fall asleep again, the Saintess sighed with relief. His body would recover faster this way, especially those broken legs. The Saintess’s treatment helped, but ultimately Li Yifei’s self-healing was crucial.
Li Yifei wasn’t asleep, not really. While closing his eyes, he assessed his condition: severe but not hopeless. His internal injuries were minimal compared to external ones. Now awake, he could start healing himself. His Dantian was filled with True Qi, so Li Yifei began repairing his body. Although his leg bones were broken, he intended to fix them. By evening, he awakened significantly restored, able to sit up, he asked the Saintess for help in stabilizing his legs.
"Fixing your own broken bones... This task isn’t easy!" Li Yifei winced, enduring the pain as he repositioned his bones.
The Saintess bit her lip, feeling distressed. As the sound of cracking filled the cabin, Li Yifei realigned his bones, enduring the excruciating pain but succeeding. With aligned bones, his self-healing would proceed effectively, avoiding severe consequences.
"Yanzi!" Li Yifei called after washing his hands. She paused, looking at him with enchanting beauty, even amid the exhaustion of recent days. Raising his hand to grasp hers, the Saintess stepped closer and took his hand.
"No need to dive. You’re injured, and I’m not very hungry. No need to find food." Li Yifei knew the boat’s food supply was depleted, meaning they had to dive into the sea to retrieve more.
"It’s easy, there are plenty of food sources in this sea." The Saintess shook her head, then turned to leave the cabin. Li Yifei heard the splash of water and exhaled deeply—one matter had been settled, as the Saintess finally admitted defeat.
