Super Soldier in the City

Chapter 1880 - 1943: Healing

Chapter 1880 - 1943: Healing

On the second day, those who had killed outside returned one after another and learned of this matter. Some were indignant, some lamented, and some didn’t believe it, but the helpless fact was that the officers they were protecting had died, Li Qiushui had died, and those who had experienced the events of that night never spoke of it again. Su Tianhai hadn’t been awake long before he started spitting blood and fainted, unsure if it was from the grief or the blows Murong Yuanqing had dealt to his heart meridian. And Li Qiushui was taken away by Murong Yuanqing. In the breakout two days later, he carried Li Qiushui’s corpse on his back, and among these people, none dared speak against it, letting him do as he wished.

Su Tianhai was similarly taken away. Over the years, he had made some friends, so it was impossible for them to leave him injured and abandoned here.

This breakout was very successful. The headquarters dispatched a force of over ten thousand to support them, engaging in solid battles with the enemy. Murong Yuanqing also brought over a hundred martial arts experts who, under cover of night, found their way to an enemy defense and carved out a bloody path.

From then on, the originally okay relationship between Murong Yuanqing and Su Tianhai completely shattered. In the years of subsequent battles, they occasionally crossed paths, but it was as if they never knew each other, and even in the countless years that followed, they had no contact.

From the perspective of national interest, Su Tianhai was not wrong; from the angle of loyalty and trust, Su Tianhai was not wrong either. However, from the perspective of personal feelings, Murong Yuanqing would hate him for life.

Just like a few years before when Li Qiushui suddenly got married and had a child, Murong Yuanqing was pained. But he thought he could still meet Li Qiushui, even if occasionally. Now Li Qiushui was dead, killed by Su Tianhai, and there would no longer be such a person as Li Qiushui in the world.

Thereafter, he couldn’t even see her; what could be more sorrowful than this?

For this, Su Tianhai sunk into despair for years. Although he fought on the battlefield, he became taciturn, often taking tasks and completing them, leaving enemies scattered, corpses piling up everywhere, and once completed, he would be alone, perhaps sitting against a stone wall for a whole day, or drinking somewhere until he was drunk, shouting Li Qiushui’s name in broken cries.

Those who knew about this avoided the topic, and Su Tianhai never investigated why Li Qiushui did what she did. He was forever haunted by having killed Li Qiushui, a guilt-like self-blame that troubled him all his life; even now when he spoke of it, he choked on his words.

Li Yifei never expected such a tangled grudge among the elders. He understood why Murong Yuanqing reacted so strongly upon hearing Su Tianhai’s name, even proposing such a demand that he must take Su Lio by force.

No wonder these two old men, both over a hundred, saw each other with animosity despite being the strongest in Huaxia, still acting so childishly over this matter...

Both became the strongest in Huaxia, with countless eras and stories achieving what they are today. Murong Yuanqing tirelessly serves his country until death, while Su Tianhai chose to guard one area, seemingly secluded but actually resolving many troubles secretly over the years. For instance, in Changbai Mountain, things have never been peaceful; conflicts abound between nations and places, but with Su Tianhai guarding here, many dare not act rashly.

After hearing this story, Li Yifei felt a bit oppressed, especially seeing the old man cover his face, seemingly choked with emotion. Li Yifei lightly patted the old man’s shoulder and comforted him, "It’s all in the past, moreover your choice was right."

Su Tianhai took a while to recover his emotions, and with a wry smile, he said, "Family and national affairs, personal matters, hard to choose, hard to choose; the important thing is not to regret. I remained stuck over the years because of regret, though later I realized it wasn’t me who killed her, but she wished to die by my hand. Ultimately, it was my hand holding the sword; I still killed her."

"Dying by the hand of a loved one might be a kind of happiness too!" Li Yifei said.

Su Tianhai suddenly looked up, repeating as he looked at Li Yifei, "You said dying by the hand of a loved one?"

"That’s what you said. Her expression at the time was smiling. If her heart was not content, filled with hatred, she couldn’t possibly smile. Besides, you loved her for so many years, she must have known. Although I don’t understand why she married someone else, she must have had some feelings for you, maybe friendship, maybe even love, who knows?"

Su Tianhai’s eyes became vacant, silent for a long while, before he rubbed his face, seeming to let go of something, and said, "Yes, perhaps she had me in her heart too. With her upright and uncompromising nature, hating evil like her enemy, how would she kill someone? Perhaps dying by my hand was a form of relief for her."

Li Yifei nodded, no longer commenting on the matter. After muttering for a while, Su Tianhai suddenly stood up and said, "Alright, I feel much better after telling you the story. It’s been almost decades; I should let go too, especially as I don’t have long left, time to go and meet Qiushui, maybe then she can tell me the reason!"

Watching Su Tianhai walk out, Li Yifei rubbed his face and sighed. He felt a little at a loss, having learned the past events, yet unable to offer any comforting words. But it was good that Su Tianhai vented a bit, and Li Yifei’s own emotions were much relieved.

After Su Tianhai left, Li Yifei heard footsteps in the hallway. Leaning on the pillow, he responded with a "come in" when he heard the knock on the door.

It was Su Lio who entered, carrying a tray with several small bowls that looked quite exquisite. She walked in, smiled at Li Yifei, and placed the tray on the small table by the bed.

Li Yifei also smiled, sniffed, and asked, "What’s inside?"

"Grandfather asked the kitchen to prepare some medicinal dishes. I happened to be passing by, so I brought them over for you," Su Lio said. Although her expression remained cool, there was a hint of gentleness in her words. Li Yifei nodded and said, "Thank you."

Su Lio pursed her lips and said, "It’s no trouble. I told you I brought it over while I was at it."

Hehe, Li Yifei found it amusing. This girl emphasized twice that she brought it over while she was at it. Li Yifei nodded and said, "Then I must taste it. I didn’t feel much before, but now that I smell the fragrance, my stomach is growling."

"Then I..." Su Lio was about to say, "Then I’ll feed you," but realized it wasn’t appropriate. She had only ever fed her grandfather; how could she feed Li Yifei? Even though he had saved her and almost got bitten by a snake, feeding him was out of the question.

Li Yifei noticed her awkwardness and said, "Just help me bring it over; I can eat by myself."

"Okay." Su Lio nodded lightly, thought for a moment, then went out to find a small table, placed it on Li Yifei’s bed, put the dishes on the table, and handed him the chopsticks and spoon.

Li Yifei was indeed hungry. Having been unconscious for two days without a drop of water, apart from some nutrient shots, he finished the few exquisite and nutritious dishes within five minutes. Su Lio, watching from the side, almost reminded him several times not to eat too much, or he might feel uncomfortable, but she didn’t say it out loud.

Once Li Yifei finished eating, she cleaned up and left.

Full and satisfied, Li Yifei lay bored in bed. He fumbled around but couldn’t find his phone, so he began searching. Just as he was getting anxious, Su Lio came in, holding his phone. "I’ve kept it off for you these past few days, so there might be a lot of messages to respond to. Here, I’ve charged it too."

"Oh, thank you," Li Yifei said as he took the phone. Su Lio walked out again.

Li Yifei powered on the phone, which lagged as over a hundred messages flooded in. It took him over an hour to reply to all the messages, and he received three calls in between, all from his wives.

Li Yifei didn’t tell them what happened here to avoid unnecessary worry. Besides, he was fine now. Thankfully, whenever he went elsewhere, he often disappeared, so his wives knew he might be busy and weren’t overly concerned. Now that they received his message, they felt reassured.

After the calls, Li Yifei scratched his head, assessed his physical condition, and found no after-effects. He estimated that after a few more days of rest, he’d be completely fine, though he forgot to ask Su Tianhai when he could fully heal his internal injuries.

After two more days of recuperation, Li Yifei was already able to move around freely, even running and practicing martial arts. Su Tianhai then handed him the prepared medicine and helped check his condition.

Li Yifei took the medicine, sat cross-legged as Su Tianhai instructed, and began meditating and breathing exercises. The medicine quickly took effect, and he felt his body gradually heating up, knowing it was working. He then started running his meridians and communicating with his True Qi.

It took him a full four hours to finish the meditation, and when he stood up, he was completely recovered. There was an occasional glint in his eyes. This recovery gave him a feeling that his stagnated cultivation had increased, though he wasn’t sure by how much. Now, he really wanted to spar with someone, preferably a master of Satan’s caliber. Of course, he couldn’t spar with Su Tianhai, as the elder’s health had greatly declined, and during Li Yifei’s unconscious phase, he had forced himself to help suppress Su Lio’s internal cold again.

Completely recovered, Li Yifei had now truly become a master. When he walked out and saw Su Lio, she immediately sensed a powerful aura emanating from him. She even felt an urge to kneel in awe and stood there dumbfounded, staring at Li Yifei.
