Chapter 209: Please Don’t Shoot

Chapter 209: Please Don’t Shoot

Feelings of sorrow and regret filled my chest when I realized that I shouldn’t have harbored any hope that I could get away and meet the prince. I hoped that he knew that I did everything that I could to try to be there. Hopefully, the prince wouldn’t take this the wrong way because that might spell demise for my plan even before it had even taken shape.

Suddenly, I heard sounds of men shouting and then there were lights in the near distant from the direction of the inner gates. My eyes widened in slight excitement when I thought that perhaps it was Bradon who had finally come home. Maybe he had changed his mind and was going to take me to the palace.

“Wait here please, Diana,” Bella said sternly as she motioned with her hand for me to stay back.

“What is going on over there?” I asked as I narrowed my eyes.

It felt like something abnormal was happening and the way that Bella seemed alert and on edge was the confirmation I needed to know that what I thought was correct. There was tension in the air and I had never seen so many guards gathered all at once like that before.

“Don’t worry. Whatever it is, I’m sure that Zain is dealing with it. Why don’t we head inside for the time being?” Bella suggested before smiling at me.

It must be some kind of big deal if Zain was there dealing with it himself. Bella seemed very worried and I wondered if some dangerous uninvited guest had turned up at the mansion.

“Should I call Bradon?” I asked as I started to panic a little.

Just when I took out my phone, it started vibrating in my hand. I stared at an unknown number as I felt a knot form in the base of my stomach. The timing was just too perfect for it to be a coincidence.

“Hello?” I said through the phone.

“Come to the gate. It’s so noisy and chaotic...seriously...” a man’s voice that I recognized complained.

“Please wait!” I replied hastily.

I made my way along the path toward the inner gate as fast as I could in the heels that I had on. Bella was right by my side.

“Where are you going? Please head back inside,” she told me as her eyes widened.

“I can’t do that. There’s someone here to see me,” I said as I kept on walking.

Bella stepped in front of me to block my way. I could tell that she was serious about stopping me and that meant that she already knew what was going on.

“Please back away, Lady Diana,” she said as she pleaded to me with her eyes for me to obey.

“Step aside right now, Bella,” I ordered.

“Zain is dealing with the situation right now. Please don’t go out there. It’s dangerous and there could be more problems,” she pleaded.

“I can’t do that. Step aside and let me through right now,” I ordered again without backing down.

Even if she were to hold me down, I would make sure to crawl toward the gate until I was where I needed to be at that moment.

“Lady Diana...please!” Bella called after me.

I pushed her out of the way as I walked faster towards the inner gate. There were so many gates but the innermost gate wasn’t so far away. My heart raced wildly in my chest as I ran towards my destination as if I was running towards my salvation.

The scene that I saw unfolding right before my eyes almost made my heart stop beating in my chest. The man that I had been longing to see stood face to face with Zain with countless men surrounding them.

Prince Desmond is here...

My eyes widened as I took in everything that was going on. Zain had his gun pointed at the crown prince while the rest of his men looked ready to draw their weapons as well. I had no idea why Prince Desmond appeared with only two bodyguards and it was clear that he was unarmed. Regardless, the prince didn’t seem at all disturbed or affected by the fact that there was a gun pointed at him.

Does Zain not know who he’s pointing his gun at...?

“You can’t shoot the crown prince!” I yelled as loud as I could as I raced forward.

“My Lady!” Bella called after me and then I felt my arm being pulled roughly behind me.

“Let go! Zain! Don’t shoot. You can’t shoot him. No matter what, you can’t hurt him,” I cried out as I desperately tried to shake Bella’s grip off my arm.

“The crown prince does not have the authority to enter this place,” Zain stated slowly and clearly.

The prince looked my way and our eyes met. He smiled at me with both his lips and his eyes before he slowly raised both his hands up in a peaceful move of surrender.

“You’ve grown up very well,” the prince said with a small chuckle.

Although the situation was dangerous and unpredictable, the prince seemed very relaxed and calm. In fact, the smile on his lips made me believe that he may actually be enjoying himself. I never thought that the prince would turn up here like this. It wasn’t like I was completely clueless after receiving that gift from the prince and the hidden message that he had sent. He knew where I was well enough, but I didn’t think that he would risk his own safety to come and see me here.

“Why did you come here, Your Highness?” I asked as I felt emotions well up in my chest.

Once again, I felt like I may have the luxury to feel hopeful that the prince may listen to me and that he may take my side.

“We’re supposed to have dinner together, aren’t we? I had a feeling that you might be in need for a ride to the palace so I came here to personally escort you there,” he replied before beaming a smile my way.
