Chapter 207: Abusing His Power
Chapter 207: Abusing His Power
My father did not waste any time in getting right to the reason why we had been summoned. After we sat down on the sofa, my father began speaking without even greeting us.
“The crown prince, Prince Desmond, sent a formal invitation inviting you two to dinner. Of course, not you two as yourselves but as Anthony and Diana,” my father said as he pushed a navy blue envelope towards us.
My eyes dropped to the envelope on the table in front of me and then I felt my chest clench quite uncomfortably. The signature navy blue color and the golden seal on the envelope undoubtedly belonged to the crown prince. Unless anyone was stupid enough to risk the penalty of forging royal documents, then it must have been genuine.
“We’re not going,” Bradon stated bluntly.
“We are in no position to turn down a formal invitation from the palace,” my father rightfully reminded Bradon.
“He’s right. We can’t ignore this invitation,” I told Bradon while trying to sound natural and calm.
In fact, I wanted to burst into tears of joy and rejoice that the opportunity for me to meet the prince had finally presented itself. Even if Bradon wasn’t in support of us meeting the prince, he couldn’t simply go against the prince’s formal invitation. If both Anthony and Diana refused to join the prince for dinner, then both our families would have some explaining to do formally.
“We’re not going. We don’t have any reason to,” Bradon said to me sternly.
“We’re going...” I replied defiantly.
“Not turning up will cause unnecessary problems for both our families. I am sure that you should already be well aware of that. He might not be the king but...he might as well be...” my father said with a grim look on his face.
It felt strange for me to be on the same side as my parents. The forlorn look on my father’s face made me feel like he was very worried about the stability of his position. My mother looked visibly stressed and it felt like she had aged many years since the last time that I saw her. The crown prince wasn’t the king but he would be the king eventually. With the king’s current health condition, I could imagine that most royal affairs were now decided by the crown prince.
He might as well be king right now, indeed...
I turned to steal a glance at Bradon and found him glaring openly at me. Instead of playing the game of stares with him, I took the invitation envelope and opened it. Inside was a formal invitation letter with Anthony and my sister’s name printed on it along with the appointed date and time.
“Three days from now...” I murmured softly.
That meant that I had three days to convince Bradon to take me there to meet the prince. It wasn’t going to be easy but I needed to talk some sense into him.
“We should attend this dinner with the prince. Even if you don’t personally want to go, you should go because it is something that Anthony would do,” I said while knowingly using his brother against him.
“If Anthony wants to attend, then he should do so himself...” Bradon replied before showing me a very chilling smile that made me feel uneasy inside.
I had wanted to ask my parents if they had heard anything from my sister but I quickly decided against it after observing how fowl Bradon’s mood had gotten. It also wasn’t likely that my sister had contacted our parents if she hadn’t even contacted me. I closed my eyes and let out a sigh while realizing that I felt quite tired.
...
**Bradon’s point of view**
I knew well enough that the prince kept his personal mobile phone close to him at all times. Unlike his official line for work which he may neglect, it usually didn’t take the prince long to answer my calls. The fact that he had kept me waiting on the line for a while now only meant that he was trying to piss me off. My eyes narrowed as I thought that he was succeeding splendidly.
If I had known that the matter that Dahlia’s parents were so hell bent on discussing would be related to the prince’s dinner invitation, I would have stopped Dahlia from seeing her parents in the very first place. It seemed that the prince had grown restless and desperate enough for him to abuse his official power just so that he could get a chance to meet Dahlia in person. I had to say that I didn’t think that the prince would go this far for the sake of seeing Dahlia.
Since I hadn’t responded favorably to the personal invitations that he sent to me, the prince had resorted to sending a formal invitation through our parents instead. It was a sneaky trick but a very well-expected one. If he thought that I would simply bend and give in to his invitation because he decided to loop our families into this, he was about to find out that he was sorely mistaken.
As far as I was aware, there were no good reasons why Dahlia should meet the crown prince and vice versa. In fact, the more persistent the prince was about this matter, the more suspicious I became. At first, it all appeared to be a sick joke that the prince was merely playing to get on my nerves. However, now I wasn’t so sure.
This better not be what I think it is...
“Hello...” the prince greeted me too cheerfully for my taste when the line finally connected.
“What have you done?” I asked without beating around the bush.
“I don’t know. Tell me. What have I done?” he asked mockingly.
Desmond...
“I received your formal invitation,” I stated coldly.
“Oh, that’s good news. There’s no need for you to call and thank me for that,” he said teasingly.
I pursed my lips into a thin line as I felt my anger rise slowly to the surface.
