Chapter 193: Words of a Temptress

Chapter 193: Words of a Temptress

This wasn’t the time to be pleased to find him still by my side. We were in my bedroom and dawn must be approaching soon enough. That meant that I didn’t have much time left with him. I wondered where I should start but all the words that I had prepared all seemed unnatural and insincere now that I thought about them. Bradon didn’t say anything but I could feel him watching me intently.

He’s waiting for me to say what I have to...

“It’s like a hostage situation...” I whispered.

“...What?” Bradon said with clear confusion.

It must have seemed very random for me to start our conversation with a comment like that. However, that was really how I saw the situation that we both seemed to be in.

“Both of us are stuck here doing whatever our families want us to do, you know, all for the sake of the people we love and care for. For me, it’s because of Diana. As for you, it’s probably because of Anthony, right?” I said somberly.

It was just my best guess but since Bradon stayed silent without denying it, I figured that I must have gotten it right at least to a certain degree.

“It’s like they have our siblings held as hostages and they’re constantly using this fact against us. I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t care less what happens to my parents or our family name. I only care about Diana and what might happen to her...” I continued while trying to sort out my emotions.

I wondered how much Bradon knew about what I had been through. My past wasn’t exactly a private affair. I grew up in the spotlight and various interesting events from my past were thoroughly covered by the press and published for all to see whether I liked it or not. Fact and fiction swirled together into one integrated mess that everyone perceived as the right version of the truth about me. Some of the things that they wrote or said about me were correct while the others were bold lies.

“I’ve been...” I murmured as I tried to figure out how to explain to him what exactly I had been through and might still be going through.

“I’m sure that you’ve been through a lot. You don’t need to say anymore...” he said solemnly without letting me finish.

“Ok...” I whispered softly.

“I get it that you’re not on great terms with your parents and that they’ve been abusive and hateful towards you. I figured that out for myself when they came to visit you here after we got married,” he said understandingly.

“Oh...that...” I said in sudden recollection.

Bradon pointing his gun at my father was an unexpected yet very satisfying sight to behold. It felt like that happened so long ago although it hadn’t been that long ago. I smiled a little as if that memory had turned into one that I was fond of. I was sure that that event would have become one of my numerous dreadful memories had it not been for what Bradon did to help me. Back then, I wasn’t sure if he did that to help or he did it simply because my father was using violence on his turf.

Now that this conversation had started, I wasn’t sure what I needed to do to get him on my side for him to cooperate with me with my plan. The fact that he was listening felt like all I had done up to that point wasn’t a waste. I entertained him well enough and even slept with him. The way he showed me some sympathy and understanding made me believe that I had earned some of his trust. Now if only he would go a little further for me.

What would be the price that I would have to pay?

“Is there something that you want, Dahlia?” Bradon asked without beating around the bush.

“Don’t you already know what I want?” I asked as I turned around to face him.

His hand reached out slowly toward my face as his blue eyes stared deeply into mine. I felt so captivated although I was supposed to be seducing him into following my selfish whims. The soft touch of his fingertips capturing my chin made my heart skip a dangerous beat in my chest.

“Tell me in your own words,” he instructed in a soft whisper as he kept his eyes on me.

What I really wanted felt too complex for me to put into a few words. The plan seemed so grand and elaborate that it made me feel like it was too big for me. I bit softly on my lower lip as I tried to pick the right words. In the end, it might just come down to just this for me...

“I want to completely destroy the Alnault house and eliminate all its power permanently,” I stated determinedly.

“I see. How do you plan to achieve such a thing?” Bradon asked calmly.

“I need to get all of my father’s supporters to break ties with him and stop supporting the Alnault family. The Alnault family continues to survive and thrive because of two main sources of support despite my father’s failure as the head of the house. The first is support from the King, the leader of the royal family...” I said before pausing.

Bradon listened to me attentively without saying anything. I knew that he was paying attention, but the calm expression on his face made me wonder what he thought about what I was telling him. He didn’t seem at all surprised but that didn’t mean that he would be willing to help me. However, it was too late for me to hesitate or go back now. Now came what I thought was the hardest part because it involved the house of the Vulkans.

“The second is support from the Vulkan family stemming from the union of our families through Anthony’s marriage to my sister. I believe that if there is a way to eliminate these two sources of support, the Alnault family would lose its power,” I completed my explanation in what I thought was quite a clear and concise way.
