Chapter 179: Eternal Love
Chapter 179: Eternal Love
Everyone at the mansion seemed overjoyed to have us back. We were greeted with long lines of staff who came out to bid us welcome back home. It was a sight that I wasn’t at all used to. More than anything, the warm and pleasant atmosphere that marked our return from our honeymoon trip felt like nothing that I had ever experienced before while I was living in the Alnault house.
“Let’s go inside,” Bradon said as he casually took my hand in his.
Some of the staff were clearly not used to seeing us getting so close. I could tell from the way they whispered softly to each other and the look on their faces. Even I wondered when it started to feel so natural for him to take my hand like this. I turned and offered some of the maids a smile as they were staring at us and that made them look away in embarrassment.
For no good reason, I was in a very good mood ever since we landed. The island felt like a blessing from mother nature, but returning to the mansion clearly offered its comfort. Although I thought that it was impossible when I moved to live here, I had somewhat become accustomed to spending time in Bradon’s mansion.
“Are you tired?” he asked after leading me to the living room.
“No, I’m fine...” I replied as I sat down on the sofa.
“Wait here,” he ordered before heading out of the room.
I cocked my head to the side in wonder but had no problem doing what he wanted me to. While Bradon was gone, my mind wandered to our honeymoon trip. Since I never thought about getting married for real, I also never thought that I would ever experience a honeymoon trip. I wasn’t sure what I had in mind when we set off to the island and that was probably because I had nothing in mind. However, I have to say that the last few days that we spent together must have been quite close to what a honeymoon is supposed to be like.
After Bradon chased the director and the crew members out, we had the privacy that marked a great start to our ‘more real yet still fake’ honeymoon. It wasn’t easy being alone with Bradon but he didn’t seem to have any issues in giving me personal space, at least during daytime. I got back to my freediving lessons after Bradon hesitantly gave his permission with the condition that I changed the instructor to a female one. I giggled when I recalled how I laughed so hard right in front of him when he stated that condition.
“Oh, you’re back...” I said when I realized that he had returned.
“This is for you,” he stated simply as he held small velvet box towards me.
“What is it?” I asked although I already had a feeling of what it may be.
The box was small and it probably contained a ring or jewelry of a similar size. The real question that puzzled me was why he was giving it to me. He waited in silence with his hand offering me the ring. I looked up at his face to see if I could gather some clues but I couldn’t read him as always. I took the small box from his hand and opened in.
A huge diamond ring...
“What is this for?” I asked as I returned my gaze from the large sparkling stone to his face.
“It’s been over a month. I know this is late,” he said matter-of-factly.
My mind went blank for a few seconds before I realized what this was all about. With everything that had been going on making me feel like I was riding a whirlwind, I had lost track of time. It really has been more than a month since we got married. I stared at the large sparkling diamond solitaire ring in the dark velvet box when I recalled his one-sided promise to buy me a ring every month. It had completely slipped my mind but it was clear that Bradon had not forgotten.
“I don’t have any need for another ring. I can’t wear two of them at the same time,” I said softly.
“Then you better decide what to do with it. You’ll be getting another one next month,” he replied curtly.
I had no idea what had gotten into him. Arguing with Bradon had never proved to be productive and I didn’t want to ruin the peace that we had managed to maintain for a great few days between us with another useless argument. If he wanted to give me such expensive gifts, then I’d let him do whatever he wanted.
“Thanks. I’ll take it,” I said with a firm nod of my head.
“Good,” he replied.
Our conversation ended just like that. Bradon walked out of the living room without saying another word to me. I had no idea how long I stared at the closed door after he had left. I didn’t even bother trying the new ring on. Without a doubt, it must have been custom-made so it would fit my ring finger perfectly. However, there was no point in putting on a ring with a bigger rock on it. Diamonds were supposed to symbolize eternal love. Without any such emotions invested in this diamond, it was nothing more than a vibrantly sparkling rock. I pursed my lips together when I doubted that Bradon would understand something like that.
...
**Around a week later**
“This is Bella. I trust that you’ve met her already,” Jenna said as she gestured with her hand to a young woman that was standing next to her.
“Yes. She was kind enough to show me around the mansion when I first arrived,” I replied before smiling a little at Bella.
I thought that she was quite talkative the last time that she took me on a tour of the mansion but she seemed very on edge and nervous now that we were talking again.
“Hello...” she whispered timidly.
“Bella will be taking close care of you from now on as your personal maid,” Jenna explained simply.
