Chapter 993: Causing An Upheaval
Chapter 993: Causing An Upheaval
The dead looked peaceful.
No injuries.
No poison.
No curse marks.
Nothing.
Healing Hall elders arrived.
Curse Peak elders followed.
Soul examinations.
Body examinations.
Everything.
Nothing.
The reports only made things worse.
Heart failure.
Every corpse.
Heart failure.
"How?"
"No poison?"
"No external attack?"
"Impossible!"
The sect erupted.
Orders came immediately, and disciples confined.
Movement restricted as orders were enacted.
No wandering.
No unnecessary travel.
Only elders and specific duty disciples received permission.
Patrols increased and even Jiangshi mobilized.
Thousands of them spread across the sect and seeing this Han Yu nearly laughed, because nearly forty percent of them were his own creations. The sect had unknowingly handed him eyes everywhere.
Through them he watched the panic spread.
Outer Court peaks descended into terror.
Some disciples slept in groups thinking they could trust others, while others moved to distant caves to hide. And a few even refused to sleep entirely. Others sat with weapons in hand through the night.
Rumors exploded again.
"Ghosts!"
"A curse!"
"The killer returned!"
"The ancestors angered heaven!"
The terror only grew.
Then Han Yu acted again.
This time differently.
An Artery Peak.
It was mostly Core Disciple territory but several elders resided there as well.
Han Yu took his time and observed carefully before he finally found his target.
A middle aged elder at the Shell Genesis stage of the Dao Shell Realm. He specialized in Blood Flame arts and was currently meditating alone.
Han Yu entered and the resistance hit immediately. The Dao Shell reacted and the Nascent Soul resisted. Yet Han Yu had already done this before. Minutes passed as the elder frowned and cold sweat appeared on his back.
He checked himself but found nothing. Before he could think to alert the others though, the resistance weakened and Han Yu broke through.
The elder’s eyes opened a moment later, but the person looking through them was no longer him.
Han Yu stood and tested movement, finding it to be heavy and far harder than Mistress Love Wine. He could already feel time slipping but he moved anyway.
The elder walked out and disciples greeted him.
He ignored them at first but then suddenly... BOOM!
Blood flames erupted from his body as a pavilion exploded.
Disciples screamed.
"What happened!?"
The elder laughed.
A loud manic laugh.
"Hahaha!"
He raised both hands.
Blood flame dragons burst out.
Buildings exploded.
Core disciples scattered.
An elder nearby rushed over.
"Brother Chen! What are you doing!?"
Han Yu turned.
The elder’s face twisted.
"You all looked down on me!"
BOOM!
He struck.
The attack smashed into a residence.
Core disciples flew out injured.
The entire peak erupted.
Alarms rang.
Jiangshi flooded in.
Han Yu attacked everything.
Blood flames.
Palm strikes.
Techniques.
The elder moved wildly.
Like a madman.
One Core disciple shouted.
"He went insane!"
"No!"
Another yelled.
"He has Qi deviation!"
Han Yu laughed again.
The elder’s body trembled harder.
Resistance grew.
Four minutes.
Five.
The Dao Shell inside fought him violently now.
Han Yu felt pain.
The body rejected him.
He barely had control.
Then reinforcements arrived.
Several Dao Shell elders.
More Jiangshi.
Formation arrays activated.
One elder shouted.
"Restrain him!"
Chains of blood shot out.
Han Yu broke them.
Another elder appeared.
"Brother Chen!"
"Wake up!"
Han Yu attacked him immediately.
BOOM!
The two clashed.
The peak shook.
The elder’s body trembled again.
Control slipping.
Six minutes.
That was it.
Han Yu knew he was done.
If they captured him... Questions would follow.
Soul searches.
Investigations.
No.
The body had to disappear.
Han Yu made his choice.
He turned and charged straight toward the incoming elders.
Everyone froze.
"Brother Chen! Stop!"
The elder laughed.
"Hahaha!"
Blood Qi erupted violently and the incoming elders realized instantly what was about to happen.
Their faces changed.
"SELF DESTRUCTION!"
"RETREAT!"
But it was already too late.
BOOOOOOOOM!!!
The sky exploded.
Blood fire engulfed everything.
A giant crimson sphere expanded outward as buildings collapsed and Jiangshi turned to dust. Core disciples were blown away and three elders were swallowed directly. The blast illuminated half the peak.
Han Yu left the body the instant before detonation. His soul floated silently above watching everything. The aftermath was horrific as half the district burned, several elders lay injured and core disciples crawled through rubble.
The sky remained filled with blood mist as silence descended.
One surviving elder stood amidst the destruction.
His face pale.
"...Brother Chen..."
The man was gone.
Nothing remained.
Only ashes.
Then panic returned.
"This happened outside the tournament!"
"The influence reached elders!"
"No one is safe!"
The news spread through the sect like wildfire.
The terror that had slowly settled over months finally exploded.
Because this time...
It was not an Outer Court disciple.
Not an Inner Court disciple.
But a Dao Shell Realm elder!
If even elders could become victims...
Then everyone was prey.
Back on his personal peak Han Yu opened his eyes.
He leisurely poured wine into a cup and took a sip while outside alarm bells rang across the sect.
Inside he calmly leaned back.
"Now things are getting interesting." He muttered.
Chitterfang woke up again and the fat rat looked at him.
"Squeak?"
Han Yu smiled.
"Looks like vacation is over."
Heart Peak descended into chaos again.
The explosion on the Artery Peak had shaken more than the mountain itself. It had shaken the confidence of the entire sect. This time there was no hiding the severity of it.
An Outer Court disciple going mad could be dismissed as misfortune. Inner Court disciples killing each other could still be investigated. Even the tournament deaths had loopholes and possibilities.
But this...
A Dao Shell Realm elder.
A true elder of the sect.
One who had cultivated for over a millennium.
One who held authority.
One who had survived countless bloodshed.
He had gone mad in broad daylight, killed disciples, destroyed part of an Artery Peak, then self destructed.
And most of all he took three other Dao Shell elders with him!
The losses were catastrophic enough that no one could bear to watch anymore.
