Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance

Chapter 62: Revenge

Chapter 62: Revenge

As if the danger warning brought from within him a survival instinct that was hidden deep inside, Stanley immediately lost all thought about ending his life and instead fought to protect himself.

"NO! NO!" he shouted again while moving his body as much as he could to throw off the girl that was most likely going to stab him through the chest.

"Oh?" the girl’s surprised voice sounded. "I thought you were ready to end it all. Was I wrong?"

"I’m not going to die!" he shouted. "I’m not going to die."

The panic and pain in his heart turned into anger. "I’m not going to die! Not before I kill them. I won’t die until I’ve had my revenge."

The girl moved back a little in surprise as a weird smile formed on her face. "Revenge huh?" she felt amused. "That’s not a bad goal to have. Revenge is quite fun actually. Do you want to hear about how I got my revenge against those who killed my parents? It’s a fun story."

Stanley was lost for a moment as he couldn’t think of what to say. "You don’t have any parents?" he asked.

"No, they were killed when I was just 10 years old," the girl said. "I had to survive on my own at the age of 10. Thankfully, I had my powers by then so I was strong enough to protect myself and my little brother."

"And then when I was strong enough to have my revenge as well... oh! That was an amazing day," the girl said, reminiscing the night when she killed her enemies. "The ecstasy that comes from people dying around you... it’s something else."

Stanley started feeling weird hearing the words coming from the girl’s mouth. Was that how she viewed death?

To him, the people that have died have done nothing but hurt him. How could she find ecstasy in killing people? Or... was that just when it came to revenge?

If that was the case, would that still be the case for him? The one that killed his mother was already dead. The Crawler was no more. His only enemy was a bunch of nameless unintelligent monsters that attacked anything that moved. Would his revenge still feel as good as she described?

’It must,’ he thought. ’If she really did feel it... then maybe there is some truth there.’

"You should definitely try and get your revenge," the girl said. "In fact, I will look forward to hearing about this news, hehe!"

Stanley tried to nod, forgetting that his head was strapped up to something.

"Hmm, that reminds me. Why are you already up?" the girl asked. "It’s only been a week and from what I heard you were as close to death as an alive person can be. I’m surprised that you could wake up this early."

’A week?’ Stanley thought. ’It has been a week since the girl...’

The memory of the girl stabbing herself surfaced again, making him tense up. The girl had died because she was worried about her powers killing others.

"Powers..." Stanley spoke softly. "I could’ve brought old man Sam to help her."

With old man Sam’s powers, the girl’s powers would’ve been blocked completely, letting her live a normal life. She would have to change the ropes every week, but that was way better than the girl killing herself.

"I should have remembered that. I should have remembered that I could save her." Tears started feeling up in his eyes once again, moistening the bandage that was wrapped around his eyes.

Now that he had enough time to look back upon what he could do, he regretted everything that he did not do.

He could’ve helped her. He could’ve saved her. All he had to do at that time was remember that there was a way to stop her powers. And, at the most crucial moment, he had forgotten.

That one mistake of his had forced the girl into taking her own life.

"It’s my fault. It’s all my fault."

The girl next to him looked at him with a disgusted look on her face. "Pathetic!" she said. "If you’re just going to cry like this just go back to sleep."

She tapped his forehead. The next moment, something entered Stanley’s head, clearing every single thought and emotion he had and slowly making him fall asleep.

The girl’s disgusted look had turned curious when she felt that her ability didn’t work on Stanley as quickly as it did for most other people.

"That’s weird," she thought. "Was I mistaken? Hmm... it’s probably because he was so emotionally distressed that his body took some time to sleep."

She quickly forgot about him and turned around to leave.

"Ah... killing people, huh?" the girl started getting excited at the thought of it all. "Ooh, I’m not sure how much longer I can hold back."

Her hands were tingling, ready to kill. He looked back at Stanley and his open check. If she could just dig her fingers in there.

"No, I should let him live," she thought. "I should be satisfied with those from a few weeks ago. Besides, I should let him get his revenge at least. I wonder what sort of person does he want his revenge against."

She controlled her urges and spoke herself out of killing Stanley right away. However, even though she controlled her urges, they were still in her, trying to push through her control.

It had been so long and waiting was becoming harder and harder with each passing day.

"Just a while more, Raven. He promised you, so just wait a bit longer," the girl told herself.

Once again, she controlled her urges. She had managed to do it this time around. However, who knew when the tipping point would be? When her urges would break through her control, overflowing her from within.

If that did happen someday, then...

"That will be the happiest day of my life, won’t it?"
