Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance

Chapter 58: Wounded

Chapter 58: Wounded

Bella was worried that her powers were so dangerous that it would hurt her parents. She didn’t even think about herself, just her parents.

It was true that some kids when they first awakened their powers would panic a bit as something about them had suddenly changed in a way that they did not understand.

Most of them accepted it as easily as breathing, but some of them, especially when their powers weren’t so straightforward, they worried perhaps understandably.

Stanley frowned a bit after hearing what the girl had said.

’The cow, that was her doing?’ he thought. He remembered the cow that had appeared as if it wasn’t eating well or was sick. If the feeling he got just before was her taking away what she called ’life’, then it was definitely her owers.

If her powers truly worked by just being around people, then it was really dangerous.

"Even now, I’m taking away your life," she said as fear filled her voice.

"What?" Stanley looked at her. "There’s no way that’s tr—"

He tried to walk toward her, but he faltered at the very next step. His chest still slightly hurt and it seemed his leg had been hurt as well.

He breathed heavily but there was a hidden smile on his face. In some ways, he was happy that he was starting to get a handle on his trauma. The effect was still there, but he wasn’t useless like he used to be before.

The memories no longer haunted him either. Very soon, he believed he could get a handle on it all.

After that, he could maybe even go visit his mother’s grave.

"See?" the girl’s horrified voice made him snap out of his thoughts. "You’re hurting because of me."

"Huh?" Stanley focused back on the situation at hand. "No, I’m alright, it’s not your fault."

"You’re lying," the girl’s voice was filled with despair. "I know my powers. I will kill everyone around me with these powers."

"That’s not true," Stanley said. "You won’t kill anyone. I promise."

"How?" the girl asked, desperately asking for an answer. One which Stanley didn’t have.

Stanley knew that he was lying when he said it would be alright. With the girl’s powers, she would never have a normal life at all.

However, he had to lie. He had to calm the girl down before thinking about what to do. After all, he hadn’t been in a situation like this before and he had absolutely no idea what to do.

"Uhh... I’m sure there are ways..." he hesitated for a moment, not knowing what to say to her. And that was all it took for the girl to make her decision.

Without waiting for him to finish his words, the girl grabbed something that was close by. Stanley couldn’t make out what it was until she opened it up and he could finally see it.

It was a scissor, that had at some point fallen next to her, most likely from his crash.

"What are you..." Stanley slowly moved forward, panicking on the inside.

"As long as I’m alive, no one will be safe," the 14-year-old girl said. "I... I don’t want to kill anyone."

"Stop," Stanley shouted and rushed toward her.

"Tell my father and mother I love them."

The girl stabbed herself in the stomach.

"NO!"

He finally arrived next to her and grabbed her before she fell. "Why did you do that?" he shouted.

He quickly checked the wound and saw one of the scissor blades going into her lower abdomen.

"Aaahh..." the girl cried in pain. She was wounded, perhaps even dying, but she wasn’t dead yet.

’If someone is stabbed, don’t pull the blade out so that it can stop the wound from bleeding.’ He remembered the teaching and stopped himself from pulling the scissors.

He grabbed the girl and hoisted her up. He felt the world go dizzy for a moment as his life was drained away. The girl’s powers were still working.

Perhaps, that was what was keeping her alive in the first place.

Stanley kicked open the door to a crowd of people that had been cleared away from the shop.

"Is anyone here a healer!" he shouted.

The crowd watched in a daze, not knowing how to react to the sudden outburst.

"Does anyone have healing powers?" he shouted.

"Aaaaah!" the girl shouted in pain. "Le-let me die."

The crowd took a step back in fear. Stanley looked at them, but no one seemed to want to come out.

"What’s going on?" Freddy asked.

"She’s hurt," Stanley said, his breathing slowly staggering with each breath he took in. "I need to save her."

"I-i-I don’t know what to do," Freddy said. He started panicking too.

Stanley had no time to waste. "I’ll bring her to the Mayor as quickly as I can." With that, he rushed away from the location, quickly finding his way to the main road that led all the way up through the 3rd and 1st quadrants.

He ran up the slope, with Bella’s body in his arms that was continuously sucking the life out of him. Still, he ran to save her.

"You’ll die," the girl said. "I don’t want anyone to die because of me."

"N-no," Stanley said. "I’ll be fine."

His eyes were already blurry, and his breathing was shallow with each step he took. He couldn’t see what was on the street. He simply looked for a path where nothing was.

His legs felt heavy as iron and his strength seemed to be draining with each second that passed.

At some point, he even believed he was hallucinating as a voice started speaking in his dull mind.

"Host’s body is dying. Varinox isn’t able to determine the cause of the medical condition. Please visit the nearest hospital as soon as you can."

Stanley could hear it quite clearly, but that was about everything that was clear to him at the moment.

He was slowly dying, and if nothing changed, he would most definitely die.
