Chapter 309: A Bright Light
Chapter 309: A Bright Light
The man tried to control the roots quickly, but while he could tell he was controlling them to move back up, he couldn’t stop them from moving back down.
He could not understand what was happening.
"What is going on?" the woman cried to his side, and he was surprised to remember she existed. He looked toward where she was looking at and saw something that confused him beyond understanding.
For some reason, everything around them was moving quickly. The trees flapped around as though they were being whipped around by a tornado, the grass moved back and forth as though a hovercraft flew over them.
Even the clouds in the sky moved at a quick pace.
"Something is wrong," the man said out loud. "Everything is moving too quickly. This isn’t right."
As soon as he realized that things weren’t normal, everything returned back to normal.
Stanley clicked his tongue as he realized that they had caught onto his time perception manipulation. He made them things were happening at a regular pace when they were in fact moving very, very slowly.
Stanley needed that time to use his Time Reversal power on the roots to make them go back to how they were before. To reverse their unnatural regrowth.
Everything he touched went back in time. The roots let go of him and he began to lower. Even with the man controlling them now, he had removed most of it significantly enough that he could get out of the way quickly enough to not get caught again.
Or so Stanley thought when just before landing on the ground, he dangled. He looked up and saw that the roots that were grabbing his left arm, his dead arm, hadn’t grown back. They were still around his arm, and he could not do anything.
He tried to pull himself up, but there was no muscle in his body around the left arm that could help him do that. He helplessly dangled by the roots, unable to do anything.
Even the only plan he had to get out of the roots was destroyed by his dead arm. He was now left at the mercy of others. He could do nothing for himself.
"You guys in trouble?" someone asked from behind Stanley. Stanley couldn’t see the man, but he could hear multiple footsteps approaching his direction.
"Does it look like we’re in trouble?" the man named Stark asked.
Stanley saw something move next to him. He saw a creature that walked past him, fully black, shaped like a wolf.
’A.. Wolf?’ he thought and then remembered the shadow wolf that had attacked them by the river. ’It’s this person.’
The dark-skinned man looked toward Stanley. "Oh, I remember him. He destroyed my wolves," he said. "Can I get a go at him?"
"Sure. See if you can kill him. We certainly can’t," the man said.
"Bite!" the dark-skinned man shouted and the wolves all jumped at Stanley at the exact same time, biting him.
Stanley felt multiple fangs around his body, but they couldn’t hurt him. He swung his legs while dangling, getting one of the wolves right in the jaw.
It was instantly destroyed into a puff of black smoke. The dark-skinned man was angered at the sight. "This bastard!" she shouted, trying to go up to Stanley himself, but the other man stopped him.
"He will kill you if you get too close," he said. "He is physically strong. It’s a good thing he seemed to not be able to move that arm."
"What do we do now then?" the dark-skinned man asked.
"We need some other method to kill him. Let’s wait for the carrier and see what comes in it. The last one had all of its items destroyed, so maybe this one will have something good."
"That bitch really set up traps for the carrier, huh? I can’t imagine you wanted to work with her," the dark-skinned man said.
"Good thing I killed her, didn’t I?" the woman asked, surprising the man into remembering that she was still there. "Now I only need to kill one more person." Her eyes moved toward the man controlling the roots.
"You can try," the man said, not fearing the woman’s words.
The three decided that the best thing they could do right then was wait for the carrier. Stanley knew that if they found some good weapons in the carrier, they would certainly use them to kill him.
He needed to get out of here quickly.
The man had for some reason not called for more roots to confine him, so Stanley had an opportunity to get out of there. He looked up at his dead arm and how the roots had wrapped it all up.
If he could just get rid of the roots in one motion...
Suddenly, a flash of light appeared before him. The light didn’t go away and hovered before him, bringing everyone’s attention to him. It slowly morphed changing further and further, until it took on the shape of a sword.
Then, the light died down and all that remained in the air was a real sword that had come out of nowhere.

Stella had always hated being a Nova, and how it affected her day-to-day life. Taking advantage of someone’s death just didn’t sit right with her. Still, her need for death led her to a place where people died constantly.
That was why she had decided to become a nurse at a hospital.
She had been knocked out after the explosion and had then been brought here to fight in some dirty death game. At 58 years old, she could not imagine living through such a thing at all.
And yet, thanks to having met with people, she managed to survive.
It was during this time that she began noticing changes in herself. All of this time, the power she had was the power to create organic objects from memory.
However, after the explosion, after the many that had died while she was around, she gained powers from the dead soul.
And finally, after a long time of being a Nova, she had begun gaining new powers.
