Chapter 301: The Shield and the Sword
Chapter 301: The Shield and the Sword
The burly man who used the shield had no other weapons except for the shield, which he used to block and then slam Stanley with. From time to time, he would also throw the round shield at him, and it would somehow always return back to the man.
Stanley’s health was slowly chipped away while the man with the shield barely lost any at all.
By the time Stanley had only half of his health left, the man had lost only a sliver of it. And that was because Stanley managed to dodge one of the slamming attacks and cut at his feet.
The man hadn’t given such an opportunity afterward.
Stanley wanted to continue fighting, to win, but as he was right now, it did not work. He needed a new plan, a new angle of attack.
And that was when his blue bar was filled.
Stanley could use that.
Stanley needed to be careful of when he used that blue bar as it was quite strong but also could be blocked. The last two times someone had tried to use it on him, he had managed to block it.
He had only been hit by the woman with the flamethrower, and that too because he couldn’t block fire directly.
He needed to make sure that he wouldn’t get blocked when he finally used whatever this blue bar did. And this shield was especially good at blocking.
Stanley thought for a moment and had an idea that he hoped worked.
He moved in close toward the burly man who put his giant shield in front of him, completely blocking all angles of attack for Stanley.
Stanley stepped to the side, slashed at the shield, and then stepped back to the other side where he tried to fight a gap into the man’s torso through the side.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t find it.
The man brought his shield back in time, blocking the attack. Stanley quickly took a step back and took a few more steps back right afterward as the man came to slam his shield against him.
Stanley was moved back far enough that the man decided it was the right time to throw the shield. He launched the shield toward Stanley, sending it zooming through the air.
Stanley had noticed that this throwing skill of this man was part of the blue bar above this man’s head. He had no special skills at all, but he could use a bit of the blue bar he had gathered to use this throwing skill.
Stanley had been waiting for this moment.
He quickly put his sword in front of him, blocking the shield toss. He felt a minor amount of numbness in his body as his health bar lost a bit more health.
The shield then ricocheted away from his sword, toward the side barriers, from where it would bounce back toward the man.
This was the opportunity that Stanley had been waiting for.
Stanley dashed forward, trying to cover the distance between him and the man as quickly as he could. The shield was already returning, but he had to get there faster.
In the single second it took for the shield to return, Stanley made the decision that he couldn’t get to the man in time. He needed an extra boost of speed if he wanted to get there faster.
All he could do now was rely on his sword. He willed it, and the blue bar depleted instantly.
Stanley’s eyes suddenly glowed bright red as the red strip of leather that wrapped around his sword hilt suddenly unfurled. At the same time, he suddenly moved so fast that before he realized it, he was on the other side of the man, having already cut through him during that moment.
However, that was not the end.
The red leather that had unfurled earlier now trailed the entire distance. Stanley pulled on his sword, and the red leather zipped through the air, quickly arriving at the man right as his shield did.
The shield did nothing to stop this attack.
The red leather wrapped around the man, suddenly confining him from all around. Stanley jumped into the air and pulled on his sword as the red leather attached to it was pulled into the sky along with the man.
The wrapped leather began unraveling while Stanley pulled himself closer to the man as he did. He arrived next to the man in the air and slashed him, moving past him.
The red leather was still unfurling, giving him more opportunities to do the same. Stanley pulled on the leather again and slashed another time.
The leather continued unfurling.
He pulled and slashed for multiple turns as both he and the man remained in the air for a long time.
The man’s health slowly reduced bit by bit in the air, and by the time he was down on the ground, he had lost nearly a third of his entire health bar.
Stanley landed on the ground beside him, the red leather wrapping back onto the sword. He was stunned by the entire ordeal, seeing how well he had done against the man.
Everything he had just done was not his doing at all. His body had moved on its own, doing what it needed to do within this video game when the blue bar reached max.
He finally knew what his ability with the blue bar was, and it was amazing.
Stanley quickly looked forward as the big man got back on his feet. But this time around, he had his back faced against Stanley, not the front.
Stanley wasn’t going to get let go of this opportunity.
He ran up to the man and slashed him in the back, moving to the side and the man tried to turn around and slashed him again.
Stanley continued to remain behind the man as he only slashed him in the back, never giving him the opportunity to turn around at all.
Bit by bit, he depleted the man’s health bar until there was nothing more left.
