Chapter 236: Something Big
Chapter 236: Something Big
Stanley wanted to leave the place to go meet with Ulia, Hank, and the rest, but seeing as there were so many people outside, he doubted he could sneak away.
He would have to wait for the night to end and hope Ulia and the others didn’t leave right away. He didn’t believe they would as they would have to wait for directives.
He laid down on his bed, trying to go to sleep. He wasn’t sure if he could, but he tried. As he lay there, thinking about all the things he had to do, his fatigue embraced him into a gentle sleep.

"I told you!" Sheila said loudly. "He didn’t run away. It was obvious. You all just never trusted me."
"Yes, yes, now go away," the director said. "I just called you to tell you that."
Sheila happily left the room, leaving the director by himself. The director thought for a moment and quickly called Gray.
A few seconds later, Gray’s face appeared as a hologram in front of him. "What a surprise!" he spoke from the other side. "I don’t think I’ve ever had you call me while I was working."
"You aren’t working, are you?" the director asked.
"No," Gray said, moving the camera to show a sleeping Reena to the side. "She’s working. I’m just waiting for her to complete the scouting. Might take 3 more days she says."
"I see," the director said. "I called you to tell you that we found Stanley. He’s in Fourex City in the United Voras."
"Oh, how did you find him?" Gray asked.
"He... happened to be part of the gang that we were assigned to attack," the director said.
"Oh... do you need me to abandon this and go get him?" Gray asked.
"No, you aren’t needed," the director said. "Despite what we thought, he was still doing his mission. Just... not how we thought he would."
"Wait, are you telling me he never ran away?" Gray asked with a chuckle. "Haha, I knew the kid wouldn’t do something like that. Didn’t I tell you guys you were being too paranoid?"
"Well, I was just letting you know," the director said. "I’m leaving now."
"Wait," Gray said quickly. "Now that you are in contact with him, tell him something."
"What?"
"Something is happening in the United Voras," Gray said. "I’ve heard murmurs of something big going on soon, but I can’t figure out what it is. Tell him to be careful and not to get involved in it if he can."
"What murmurs?" the director asked curiously.
"I don’t know just yet," Gray said. "I’ll try finding out. But the last 2 jobs, Reena heard people talking excitedly about something happening soon, but they never said what it was exactly."
"All we could figure out was that it was happening in Voras," Gray said. "It might even have to do with our friends that Stanley went there for."
The director gave a deep thought and nodded. "I’ll message them about it," he said.
"Cool," Gray said. "If that is all, I’m leaving."
The call ended, and the director was left alone in the room with a new problem to think about. Something big. He wondered what it could be that people were talking about it in so many different locations.
He decided to relay that information. However, along with that, there was an entirely different problem that he had to think about. Now that Stanley had been found, and that he was working closely with the Blue Oasis gang for his mission, what was he to do with the recent mission in Voras?
The government had requested it, so he needed a good enough reason, but... it didn’t feel right to continue with this.
"I’ll have to ask the young man what he thinks," the director thought. ’

Stanley woke up to a knock on his door. He quickly got up, looked at the time, and realized that it was his turn to look after the two.
"Sol is asleep and the boss hasn’t woken up yet," Fred mentioned. "I’ll go sleep for 4 hours. Wake me up around—"
"It’s alright," Stanley said. "I got all the sleep I need. You can sleep for as long as you want. I’ll call you if I need you."
Fred gave a slight smile. "Thank you."
After Fred left, Stanley went to the communal room where Sol and Nova were currently resting. He saw 3 people standing around the corner of the rooms who had apparently come up to keep watch at some point as well.
Stanley knew not to worry about them as they were no danger to Nova’s life at all anyway. All dangerous parties were currently waiting for further command.
He sat beside the two of them and looked at the situation. They had both taken a shot of Varinox, albeit the weaker type that they found in medical stores, not the amped-up one that they gave to the association.
With those nanomachines in their bodies, they could certainly heal faster than a regular person. Sol’s wounds shouldn’t take more than a day or two to almost heal all the way. The problem was with his eyes, but that wasn’t something they could heal.
Stanley wondered if Amy could perhaps heal them. Her healing powers were so good that she could return lost limbs. She could heal anyone, so long as they weren’t dead.
He sat there, looking at the two as time slowly passed. He could hear the people to the side talking from time to time, but since they weren’t ones he normally interacted with, he remained there quiet.
He opened his watch and went through the news to pass his time.
Sol stirred an hour or two later, asking for water. Stanley quickly gave him a glass and helped him drink.
Then, Sol went back to sleep again, leaving Stanley and the rest alone by themselves. There were still a few more hours until the sun rose. Maybe then he would have a chance to sneak away.
