Chapter 198: Father
Chapter 198: Father
Stanley was very confused at the moment. He couldn’t think how the man in front of him could ever be his father.
He knew not much about his father, and didn’t care to learn about him. As far as it mattered for him, his father might as well have never existed.
Still, based on what he knew about his father, this man could not have been one at all. In the first place, had his father not died before he was 30 years old?
Stanley didn’t have much time to think before his attention was pulled away by the man in front of him.
"Where is he? Let me see my son!" the man shouted.
"Go away!" Yelena shouted, her voice quivering in fear. "I won’t let you touch him."
"You little bitch! Just because you had a pretty face, I showed some interest," he said. "Do you think I ever cared for you? I could kill you now and I wouldn’t feel anything."
"I will call the Defendants!" Yelena shouted. "They are right behind here."
"Hehe! So what? Who do you think they will believe?" the man asked. "A dull like you or man like me from the 2nd Quadrant?"
Yelena couldn’t help but feel fear.
"I have money and food that I can provide a child," the man said. "Who do you think the Defendants will listen to? Who do you think they will place the child with if they find out?"
"D-do you r-really think they will let someone like you care for a child?" Yelena asked. "After what you did to me?"
The drunken man’s face changed into an angry one. "Stop testing me. I will give you more bruises today than I did that day," he shouted.
"Bastard! You should have been in the prison. How the hell are you even out already?" Yelena shouted.
"Hehe! That’s what you can get by being a member of the Darkwing. Hahaha!" the man laughed. "You could send me to prison but I’ll come right back out."
"This time around, you can’t even do it. I’m here for my son, so there is no problem at all," he said. "You can keep that other kid. I don’t care. Just give me my child and I’ll leave."
Yelena shook with fear and anger. She reached behind her to gather her two children closer, and in doing so, Stanley could feel her hands shiver heavily.
Stanley paused for a moment as everything became crystal clear. ’His child?’ he thought.
This man wasn’t his father, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t the father of someone else that was with him. This was Bradley’s father.
Stanley could imagine what horrible things this man must have done to his mother for her to tremble like this. And... to think that this man was Bradley’s father.
’Then... is Bradley not my brother?’ he thought. That couldn’t be true, right?
Yelena pushed the children behind her, protecting them while trying to act tough against the man that was in front of her.
The man got angry. "You’re really asking for it," he said.
He looked around for something and scoffed. "Not even a proper metal in this house," he said before touching the wood next to him.
Suddenly, the wood rippled for a moment before the wood was created from the man’s skin itself. Half of the wood on the wooden post that the man was touching was gone, with all of it transferred onto his hands.
He looked around at his hand and slowly the hand morphed to becoming pointed and sharp. "Come on! Let’s see if you can keep my child away fro—"
"YAAH!" a shout came from the side as a man ran into the house and struck the older man with an axe.
The axe cut through the man’s neck but stuck on it as if it had hit actual wood and was stuck. Stanley hadn’t realized it from where he stood, but the man’s entire body had turned into wood.
The man stumbled a little, looking at the newcomer with wide eyes.
"You dare try and hurt my wife?" the newcomer shouted.
The newcomer was a relatively younger man in his mid-20s, with a short build. He had blonde hair, and blue eyes... and looked very similar to Stanley himself.
’Father?’ he thought. For the first time in his life, Stanley knew what his father looked like.
He looked at his father for a few more seconds before his father moved away.
The tried to get a hold of the wooden handle of the axe he used. From what Stanley could tell, his father was someone that cut wood outside, while his mother took care of the house and kids.
They together took care of the cattle and farms as well.
The older man hadn’t died, but he was close to death’s door. The fact that he had nearly had his head chopped off was enough proof that he was going to die soon.
However, he still hadn’t.
The blond man pulled out the axe. "I remember you!" he said. "I have always wanted to kill you for what you did to Yelena. Now, die!"
He swung the axe once again, hitting the man in his neck. But before he was attacked the drunk man swung his right arm.
The man lost his head, but in the process, he left a deep wound in the blond man’s chest, making him fall down to the ground.
"Father!" Stanley shouted and tried to go help him, but once again, he couldn’t move.
"Nile!" Yelena shouted and quickly ran up to the blond man while Brandon and Stanley were made to watch as the drunker man’s body slowly turned from wood to flesh.
Not all of his body was wood, however. During the last moments, due to the axe that he was touching, he had managed to turn his hand into metal and had formed a blade out of it that had cut Stanley’s father’s chest.
If not for that, Stanley’s father would have most likely been alive to be with his wife and children.
