Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance

Chapter 105: Behind the Mansion

Chapter 105: Behind the Mansion

Stanley had arrived outside, behind the mansion where he saw a massive pond filled deep with water that came down the waterfall.

This was the first time he had come to this side of the town. This was the first time anyone that didn’t work in the mansion must have come to this side of the town.

However, he couldn’t bring himself to care about what he was seeing. He didn’t care about the two massive streams of water that flowed out of the pond or the lack of machinery in place.

He walked along with Sheila who held his arm tightly.

"Dammit! Why did you bring us this way?" Sheila grumbled as she pulled him to move on. She looked around, trying to find a place to hide, but there wasn’t any place that they could hide.

"My concealment is going to run out soon, get your ass moving," she shouted at Stanley who simply wasn’t in the moment at all. She wanted to scold him even more, but she had just watched him witness his brother’s death, so she held herself back.

The walls of the cliffs narrowed on either side this up in the town, so there wasn’t anywhere else they could go.

"Why the hell isn’t there even a bush to hide in? It’s just grass and water," she grumbled again. The grass wasn’t tall enough to hide, and the water was out of the question.

She looked around, trying to search for the machine that was supposed to be there. "The hell?" she thought. "Where’s the hydro powerplant? Is it not here? Dammit, was that a lie too?"

She had thought of hiding there, but it seemed that was a lie too. "I don’t even have 5 more minutes," she said. "Help me, you bastard! Stop thinking about your brother for a minute and think about yourself. You will die too if you don’t do anything."

"Die?" Stanley asked. "Me?"

"Yes, you!" Sheila said.

Stanley remained quiet. "Maybe that’s for the best," he said. "My mother is dead, and now my brother. What is the point of me staying alive... all alone?"

’Dammit! He’s gone suicidal,’ she thought and ignored him for a moment. She was considering going back into the mansion to hide. That would be way better than hiding out here.

As she was thinking that, she noticed something far to her left. Along the edge of the cliff next to the pond was a small walking space that only showed itself occasionally when the water waved around.

"Come with me," she said and dragged Stanley to that side and looked at the thing she had noticed. "It is a platform to walk on!"

She was happy. The platform, which usually should have been above water had today gone underwater due to the rain. Still, it was barely any deep at all for them to walk on.

"But is there a point?" She thought to herself and followed the platform to see where it lead. When she did, she noticed an opening in the distance.

There was a cave beyond the waterfall.

"Oh! Oh! There’s a place," she said excitedly. "Let’s go."

She dragged Stanley through the small platform to the side before arriving on the other side of the waterfall, entering the cave.

There was enough light towards the entrance of the cave while water didn’t get in at all. She threw Stanley on one side of the wall and slumped next to the other wall.

"Phew! We made it in time," she said. She looked around the cave from where she sat and could tell that it wasn’t a natural cave.

For one, the floor was quite flat.

"Even if it is natural, there had been some work done on it," she said to herself. "That means they are aware of this place and regularly visit here. I need to be ready to leave."

She sighed and pulled out her gun before dropping a small rectangular capsule from inside of it. She looked at an indicator on the side of the capsule and sighed once more as she put it back into the gun.

"I only have about 10 good shots left," she said before placing the gun in its holster on her belt. She checked her two flash grenades, which were still there.

She sighed. "Now that they know that I know, it’s probably going to end soon," she thought with a deep sigh. She could not help the people even if she wanted to.

Would the upcoming deaths be her fault?

"Why haven’t you guys found me yet?" she said softly before looking in front of her at the young man that she had brought along.

Now that she had more time to think about it all, she recognized him.

"You are the young man that burned his hand, aren’t you?" she asked Stanley. However, she didn’t get any answer back at all. He was all too consumed in his own thought.

She tried talking to him, and after not getting an answer for a while, she stood up. Her concealment was gone already, which worried her a little, but there wasn’t much she could do.

She had used her concealment for 1 hour this time around as well, but because he had to walk around with Stanley, as well as come into contact with quite a few guards, the time she could be concealed had dropped a lot.

The longer she used the concealment, the more she couldn’t use it. Having used it for an hour, she was now without her powers for another hour.

Which meant she had to stay here with Stanley for at least another hour. "I can’t stay here doing nothing," she said and got up. She looked toward the waterfall to her right and then turned toward her left.

She looked into the darkness of the cave. She pulled out her gun, which had a flashlight built into it, and shined the light in the dark tunnel.

Using the light, she went deeper into the cave until she found something along the way.

An active shield that she couldn’t get through.
