Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance

Chapter 103: Outside the Wall

Chapter 103: Outside the Wall

Stanley watched in horror as the old man stabbed his brother in the chest. A long, single-note sound played from the metal box next to him as a single red line appeared on the glowing glass.

Stanley felt his heart sink the moment he realized that his brother had died.

’No...’ he thought to himself. This couldn’t be true. What he was seeing surely wasn’t true.

His grip on Sheila loosened as he let go of her and slowly. Sheila’s eyes narrowed as she understood the situation as well.

"No..." his words came out of his mouth, quivering as they did so. His hands shook as well, but they quickly stiffened up.

"NO!" he shouted out loud, making the mayor jerk up in fright as he quickly turned around to see Stanley with his hand on his sword.

"You bastard!"

The sword came out of the sheath as Stanley ran into the room. However, before he could go in completely, something struck him in the face, sending him backward.

He quickly got back up to see a somewhat transparent yellow wall on the door.

’Force field?’ Sheila’s eyes widened slightly.

"What the hell? You!" the mayor was surprised and a little afraid too. "What are you doing here? How did you get in here?"

Tears started streaming down Stanley’s face as his body heaved up and down in anger. He swung his sword, hitting the transparent wall with a loud crash. The wall glowed a brilliant yellow, but it wasn’t destroyed at all.

"You bastard!" he shouted again. "You... you killed my brother!"

He struck the transparent wall a few more times before he finally realized that it was useless. He moved on to attacking the physical walls themselves this time around, but that didn’t work either.

The old man was horrified at the sound of the sword hitting the wall that was coming from the hallway outside the room. Had the room’s automatic defense not been activated in time, he would have most likely died today.

’How the hell did he come in?’ he thought and quickly ran to one of the computers by his side. He flipped through the screen, trying to look at something, but all that came up was a blank screen.

"What? What happened to the tower? What happened to my surveillance system?" the old man cried out.

Suddenly a red glow flashed from the side with a small sound as something red hot dug into the wall outside his room. He turned around, only to see the small molten wall.

"What?" he couldn’t understand what that was for a second before he realized. "Plasma gun!"

Sheila frowned from within the concealment. She had tried to kill the old man while she had her chance, but to her surprise, the force field had stopped her plasma gun.

’It’s a new gen force field. Does this town have a constant connection to the outside world? But how?’ she wondered.

Offensive and Defensive technologies improved together in most cases. The better the guns became, the better the shield became as well. And with how good the current shield was, there was no doubt in Sheila’s mind that this old man went out to the outer world from time to time.

He might have even done so recently.

Stanley continued attacking walls, but the most he had done was leave scratches on them. He wanted to kill the old man, but he didn’t know how he could do that. The wall simply was too strong.

He dropped the sword and came back to the transparent wall before he started slamming it with his bare hands.

"I’ll kill you!" he shouted with the ferocity of a rabid beast. "I’ll kill you, you bastard!"

The mayor looked around and quickly found a drawer that he pulled to bring something out.

A gun.

’Shit!’ Sheila realized that Stanley was in trouble. She jumped pushing him from the side barely in time before the mayor shot the first shot.

The red plasma bullet left from inside the transparent wall, flying outside into the now empty space at it hit the wall on the other side and burrowed deep into it.

"Huh?" the old man was confused. "Ah, the Boss!"

He quickly walked up to the door and looked around, but he couldn’t see anything at all. The young man that had disappeared in front of his eyes should have been there still, but he couldn’t see.

He shot around the empty hallway a few times without going outside the room before turning back towards his computer.

From the side of the wall, where the bullets couldn’t reach them, Stanley and Sheila heard the following words.

"Emergency! All Defenders come to my mansion right now. There has been an attempt on my life!"

Then, the mayor clicked 3 buttons on the screen, which discreetly sent a signal to 3 different people in the town.

’We need to leave!’ Sheila spoke to Stanley who was still breathing heavily in anger.

"Let me kill him!" he shouted.

’No, you can’t,’ Sheila whispered. ’You can’t touch him as long as he’s inside, and he’s called for reinforcements. If you continue staying here, you’ll die too, just like your brother.’

Stanley stopped when he heard that. The thought of his brother’s death had temporarily been off his mind as rage had taken over. However, now that calmness was back in his life, the pain of losing his brother did so as well.

He started tearing up and Sheila saw it clearly. She felt bad for him but now was not the time.

’My powers are running out, we need to leave,’ she said and got up with him before leaving out of the door. They went down the long hallway with Sheila dragging Stanley along.

However, when they got close to the front of the mansion, Stanley stopped her.

"No, not there," he said. "If we go there, we’ll die."

Sheila didn’t understand what he was talking about, but her powers were running out, so she decided to follow him for now.

The two of them walked away from the front, going instead deeper into the mansion.
