Chapter 267: Monsters Wearing Human Skin
Chapter 267: Monsters Wearing Human Skin
The ruined wedding hall had completely transformed into a battlefield.
Broken marble, shattered pillars, scattered corpses, and corrupted mana filled the once luxurious palace interior. At the center of it all stood Ron, Lia, Maera, Drevin, and Selene facing the two Abyssals wearing the bodies of Dex and Maya.
The pressure in the air was immense.
Even breathing felt heavy.
The four black eyes of Ul and Si stared at them with unnatural curiosity, almost like predators observing strange prey they couldn't fully understand.
Ron tightened his grip around his black spear and glanced briefly toward Maera.
"That purple pill…"
"What exactly did it do?"
Lia also frowned slightly.
"…Yeah. I don't feel healed or stronger."
Then suddenly—
Ding ding.
A familiar sound echoed in both their minds.
Small system windows appeared before Ron and Lia while chibi William floated into existence again with his usual cheerful expression.
[Special Pill Consumed Successfully
Effect Acquired:
Complete Temporary Resistance to Dark Mana]
Ron blinked.
Lia's eyes widened slightly.
Then realization hit her.
"I think I understand now…"
She looked toward Maera.
"The pills weren't meant to strengthen us directly…"
"They remove the suppression."
Maera smirked confidently.
"Then stop standing around and get ready."
Across from them, Si tilted her head slightly while observing the sudden changes in their mana flow.
"Ul…"
"They feel even more different now."
Ul nodded slowly.
"Yes."
"They changed after consuming the purple substance."
His gaze shifted toward Maera, Selene, and Drevin as well.
"And the other three runts too…"
"They no longer feel weakened."
The next moment—
Ron unleashed his mana fully.
Boom.
Blue flames exploded outward from his body, mixed with faint black specks hidden within the fire. Mana wrapped around him completely while the surrounding air distorted from the sheer heat.
His grip on the black spear tightened.
The ground beneath his feet cracked.
Beside him, Lia's sharp dusk-pink mana surged violently into the air. Countless butterfly-shaped mana fragments formed around her while cutting wind currents spiraled through the hall.
She lowered her stance and gripped her white sword tightly.
Her pink eyes sharpened completely.
Maera then stepped forward with a wild grin.
"We're not staying behind you two."
"Let's show what our training accomplished."
She roared.
Immediately, violent red mana burst from her body.
Her beastman traits became far more pronounced than before. Her wolf ears lengthened, grey-black fur spread partially across her body, and her hair darkened into a rougher, wilder appearance. Her olive-green eyes transformed into slit-like beast eyes while her claws extended sharply from her fingers.
Then the fur around her body began glowing faintly with grey-green mana.
The pressure she emitted became savage.
Primal.
Drevin remained silent as always, but darkness immediately began spreading across both his arms and bow like living shadows wrapping around him.
The shadows moved unnaturally.
Almost alive.
Then Selene awkwardly coughed once.
"I might not have something flashy…"
"But I have this."
She threw several prepared rune papers into the air.
The papers ignited instantly.
One after another, glowing runes emerged from them and floated behind her back.
Nine runes.
They arranged themselves into a rotating circular formation, humming softly with mana while different symbols continuously shifted across their surfaces.
Lia glanced at them briefly and couldn't help blinking.
"…When did you make that?"
Selene smiled proudly.
"During the trip training here."
Maera immediately says, "So that's what were hiding !"
Selene smiled slightly.
"Yup, Professor taught me this !"
Even in the middle of overwhelming danger—
That familiar exchange eased the tension slightly.
Across from them, Si slowly smiled.
Or rather—
The Abyssal equivalent of a smile.
"How interesting…"
Ul lowered his stance slightly while dark mana began gathering around his claws.
"Yes."
"For weak creatures…"
"You're unexpectedly entertaining."
The atmosphere instantly tightened.
Then Lia suddenly spoke while keeping her eyes fixed on Si.
"Ron."
"You take that one with Maera."
She pointed directly toward Ul.
"I'll handle her with Selene and Drevin."
Ron looked at her for a second, then nodded without hesitation.
"…Alright."
He spun his black spear once before lowering his stance.
"Let's go, Maera."
Maera grinned wildly, her sharpened claws flexing as beast-like mana rippled around her.
"About time."
Across from them, the two Abyssals quietly observed the group with their four eyes.
Si tilted her head slightly.
"Looks like they're actually coming to fight us."
Ul's expression remained emotionless.
"No matter what they think…"
"They'll die anyway."
Then his gaze settled onto Ron.
"And I believe…"
"If I kill the boy using this body…"
"…I'll gain better control over it."
Si's smile widened into something disturbingly malicious.
"I feel the same about the girl."
Her black eyes locked onto Lia.
"I can't wait to experience the pleasure this body will feel after killing her."
The killing intent behind those words sent chills through everyone nearby.
Then suddenly—
A surviving royal knight charged from behind Si with a sword raised high.
"Die, monstrous basta—!"
Before he could even finish—
Shnk.
Invisible slashes tore through his body instantly.
The knight froze mid-step.
Then his body separated into multiple pieces.
Blood and organs splattered across the ruined floor.
Silence followed.
Si slowly crouched down beside the remains, staring curiously at the scattered flesh pieces.
"…Ul."
"Are humans always this stupid?"
She poked one of the severed pieces lightly.
"Why would he attack something stronger than him?"
Ul answered calmly.
"It's fear."
"The instinct to protect their pathetic existence blinds them from understanding the difference in strength."
Si hummed thoughtfully.
Then casually picked up a piece of flesh.
Ron, Lia, and the others immediately stiffened.
Si bit into it.
Crunch.
Blood dripped from her lips.
Then her face twisted slightly.
"…Blergh."
"They taste terrible."
She glanced at the flesh in confusion.
"Is that because of this body?"
And despite saying that—
She continued eating the piece anyway.
The sound alone made several nearby guests vomit in horror.
Ron and the others stared in shock.
Even Maera's beast-like expression stiffened slightly.
Si then licked the blood from her fingers and looked at them again with excitement in all four eyes.
"You fear us too, don't you… little runts?"
"Come on."
"Run."
Beside her, Ul slowly extended his clawed hand toward Ron.
"Come, child."
"Let your sibling kill you."
