Chapter 113: Pillow talks
Chapter 113: Pillow talks
Fresh from the bath and dried to the last drop, the two lay wrapped in a thin sheet on Amanda’s bed.
Her arm rested across his chest, her face nestled into him, eyes half-lidded in quiet contentment.
Just a couple of days back, she was finding way to talk to him. To get him to look at her once more. To find an excuse to hear his voice.
And now, he was here, cuddling with her after they had mind blowing sex for two hours straight.
A faint smile lifted the corners of her lips at the thought.
Yes, it was true that Kyle stepping into the aether world brought danger. Far too many risks for any normal person.
But it wasn’t all bad.
There were things she had longed for, things she could finally have now that he had awakened. She no longer had to hide anything from him. No more secrets. No more distance.
They could finally be like they once were.
And that alone made her happy.
"Hey, Amanda," he called softly, eyes still closed, his hand moving gently along her bare back.
She hummed in response.
"Should I have talked to your father today? I feel like a coward... letting you handle everything alone. Even now, your parents don’t really know who you’re dating."
"I’m sure they do," Amanda replied without much thought. "They’re just waiting for me to say it out loud." She tilted her head, resting her chin on his chest.
Noticing the tension in his brows, she added quietly, "And you’re not a coward, Kyle. You’re being rational. You’re considering everything that could affect our lives right now."
If word got out, the Astortia family would push for an engagement immediately.
She didn’t mind that.
But Kyle wasn’t ready. And beyond that, the attention, the scrutiny that would come with being tied to the Maylith family... it wasn’t something to take lightly.
So yes, he was being rational.
Kyle slowly opened his eyes and looked at her. "Then what if things had been different? Forget our clans, all of it. If we were just normal people, from normal families... what would you have done?"
Amanda’s lips curved into a soft grin. "Then I would’ve dragged you to meet my parents right away and told them I’ve already chosen who’ll be their son-in-law... and my husband."
Kyle chuckled. "How can you be so sure about me? We’ve only been together for two years, Amanda."
Her eyes were fully open now, the last trace of drowsiness gone. Her voice remained soft but a trace of certainty laced in it.
"Because I know what kind of person you are, Kyle. Forget two years... I understood you within the first few months of knowing you."
Kyle fell silent for a few moments, simply gazing into her eyes. They said far more than her words ever could.
So honest. So full of love.
His fingers traced gently along the side of her head as he spoke, "I can be a bastard too, you know. The way I pushed you away back then... how harshly I rejected you. And not to mention..." he took her hand and placed it against his stomach, "...I’ve even put on a bit of weight."
There were still faint lines of his abs, but the sides had softened just enough to notice.
Amanda chuckled softly. "You know that doesn’t bother me. If anything, I’d love to see you a little chubby. That way, you won’t be able to run too far from me."
Kyle rolled his eyes. There was no way he was letting himself gain any more weight.
"As for your ’cruel side’..." she continued, her tone softening, "it only shows how much you cared. The changes between us hurt you, and you reacted to that. Honestly, Kyle... if I were in your place, I would have been far worse."
She paused, her gaze drifting past him.
"You know how jealous I get. I might have done something extreme... something that could have pushed you away for good."
Kyle let out a quiet chuckle. "Yeah... I can definitely see you doing that."
Amanda did have that side to her. Anyone she even slightly considered a threat was kept miles away from him.
In the past, she had already dealt with a few girls who tried to get close.
And he had never stopped her.
If anything, he found that part of her... strangely endearing.
Cupping her cheek, he asked, "So, what are you going to do now?"
Amanda shrugged, "I know Father might be a little mad at the moment. But once he thinks about it calmly, he will understand what went wrong."
Kyle hummed in understanding. From his perspective, the Maylith Patriarch might have been a little too hasty with this decision.
"Amanda...I promise I will meet them soon. I will consult things with Blake and then come to your house."
Amanda got a little worried, "But Kyle...about your family."
He shook his head. "Don’t worry about it. Let me handle this."
Pulling her closer, he gently pressed her head against his chest, holding her there.
He couldn’t run away from this for long. If the word reached their ears, then so be it. He would let them know what he wants, and if they go against his wishes, he knew exactly what he would do this time.
"Ah, right." Amanda said, parting from him just slightly to speak, "Tomorrow is my father’s birthday. Are you coming?"
Kyle was taken aback, "Me too?"
Amanda nodded, "Yes. We sent an invitation to the Astortia family too, so it won’t be surprising for you to come too."
Kyle wryly smiled, "Amanda...my parents doesn’t bring me to places they deem important, so there is a high chance I won’t come."
Amanda frowned, "Kyle...how can you be so nonchalant about their behavior towards you?"
Kyle sighed, "Well, I never expected anything from them since I myself never stood on their expectations."
She still was quite upset but before she could say anything, Kyle told her, "Well, I will try though. If Blake is coming here alone, I will tag along with him."
Amanda’s lips arched. "Good. There is someone I really want you to meet."
