Chapter 224: Get Up, The Secret’s Out!
Chapter 224: Get Up, The Secret’s Out!
Leon nodded in understanding and let out a sigh of relief. If things were as Rasmodius said, then the only thing he needed to guard against was monsters.
In this world, someone who had eaten just a single Starfruit was as common as dirt, hardly enough to attract the attention of any powerful monsters.
Not to mention, he was living in Stardew Valley, where experts gathered and safety was practically guaranteed.
“I’m good now. Thanks for explaining everything. I won’t bother you two any longer.”
Having confirmed that his identity as a Starfruit eater wouldn’t bring unnecessary trouble, Leon excused himself.
“This sailing log will stay with me. I need it as evidence to submit to the Supreme Court before I can dispatch enforcers to track down that witch. You’re fine with that, right?” Rasmodius raised the sailing log Leon had brought.
“Take it, take it. Don’t stand on ceremony. It’s not worth anything anyway.” Leon waved it off without a care. It wasn’t like it was a treasure map—giving it away didn’t hurt.
Rasmodius nodded, accepted the log, and tossed Leon a palm-sized pouch.
“As a reward for providing the lead, here’s your payment.”
“There’s a reward?” Leon’s eyes lit up instantly.“Yes.” Rasmodius nodded again, then with a wave of his hand, sent Leon straight back to Red Star Farm.
Leon was already used to Rasmodius’s way of showing guests out. He turned his attention to the pouch, opened it, and took out the reward—a round, gem-like glass orb that was surprisingly heavy.
“Rare Seed (Seed): Plant in fall. Takes one season to grow.”
“Oh, Sweet Gem Berry seeds? That saves me a thousand gold.”
Recognizing the item from the description, Leon knew exactly what it was—the plant that, once harvested, could be offered to the statue of Master Old Cannoli in exchange for a Starfruit.
It was clear Rasmodius had chosen it deliberately as a reward. Still, given the current season, planting it wasn’t an option yet.
A shame Rasmodius hadn’t just given him a Sweet Gem Berry outright—would’ve saved him the trouble.
Since he couldn’t use the seed yet and it would just take up space, Leon tossed it into a chest inside his house.
“Hm?”
Just after stowing the seed, Leon noticed a large, purple-haired ‘rat’ curled up on his bed. His neatly arranged bedding had been twisted into a mess under her. He couldn’t help but raise a brow.
Anger welled up in him, and countless solutions flashed through his mind.
But after a moment’s hesitation, he couldn’t bring himself to act.
After all, it was his bed—whatever he did might damage it. And then he’d have nowhere to sleep that night.
He sat on the bed’s edge and looked at the sleeping Abigail. After a bit of thought, he decided not to wake her.
Instead, he left the cabin and headed to the far northern forest. It had been several days—time to check on his tree tapper.
Sure enough, in just a few days since his last visit, the patch of ground near Red Star Farm—where Leon had cut down trees to level up his Foraging Skill—was already sprouting new saplings.
Avoiding the young shoots, he found the three trees with tappers attached. Peering into the collection buckets, he saw the resin was already two-thirds full.
At this rate, they’d be full the day after tomorrow.
Of course, reality wasn’t as convenient as the game—he couldn’t just collect the resin, have it sealed into a finished product, and stash it in his System Backpack.
The tapper even had a small spigot under the bucket for draining, meaning he’d have to find his own containers for the resin.
Glass bottles were the first thing that came to mind. They were easy to come by—Gus’s Starfruit Saloon had plenty of empty wine bottles that could be washed and reused.
But Gus was probably still in bed, recovering from seasickness, so Leon decided to wait until tomorrow to ask.
The tappers weren’t full yet anyway, so there was no rush.
Since he was here, Leon chopped down a few trees.
With the Valley’s fast-growing trees, there was no need to worry about deforestation or landslides.
And given how dense the trees were in the far forest, there was no way he could clear them all by himself. The thought removed any lingering hesitation—he chopped without guilt.
After turning four trees into resin wood and seeds for the System Backpack, Leon returned to the farm. By now, about an hour had passed, and he wanted to see if Abigail had gotten off his bed.
But when he went inside, the curled-up figure was still there. Leon sighed and patted Abigail’s shoulder.
When she stirred and began to stretch out her limbs, Leon said,
“Get up. Your parents are outside the farm waiting for you. You need to explain to them that nothing happened between us.”
“Huh?”
Still groggy and about to roll over for another nap, Abigail jolted upright at his words, eyes wide. “Why are they here?”
“I don’t know. I was watching TV when Mr. Pierre barged in, saw you lying on my bed, and stormed out before I could explain.” Leon grimaced.
“This is bad… really bad.” Abigail started pacing anxiously, clearly racking her brain for how to explain things to her parents.
Seeing her so flustered, Leon fought to keep a straight face and urged, “You’d better go talk to them before your dad drives a car through the farm and kills me.”
“He wouldn’t dare. Wait here, I’ll be right back.” She tried to reassure him, then braced herself and ran out.
“Hahaha… If I were in showbiz, I’d at least be a decent character actor.”
Leon chuckled freely now that Abigail had gone without suspicion, marveling at his own acting skills.
But his smile didn’t last long—Abigail came back.
Clearly, she hadn’t found her parents outside, realized she’d been tricked, and was now back for payback.
