Chapter 725 The Golden Throne has summoned you
"My liege, get up! Now!" Blood Reign shouted inside his mind. Gone was the calm, steady tone. Her voice was filled with panic and horror. "My liege! Get up now, or we will perish forever!"
Damon's eyes snapped open. He moved on pure instinct, throwing himself sideways as space itself tore apart where he had been standing. A huge, gaping spatial rip split the ground open, edges shimmering with distorted light. It looked like a wound carved directly into reality, swallowing everything around it without a sound.
If he had been half a second slower, he would have been erased or thrown into god knows what world.
Damon rolled across the ground and barely managed to get back on one knee, gasping. His heart was pounding so violently that it felt like it was about to burst out of his chest. Cold sweat drenched his back.
"What… the hell… was that? Wait. Where are we?"
Damon looked around. The trial was clearly over, but he was not back in the game world? What was happening? He noticed a flashing text in the corner of his eye and quickly opened the system notification.
[Ding! The Golden Throne has summoned you. Walk through madness, or be erased from the path of glory. Ascension is not given, it is taken.]
The notification did not give him much information, but Blood Reign hurriedly shouted. "My liege, you are in a different world. A very unique and strange world. I am not able to sense mana here at all. If I am not wrong, this world should be one of the old worlds, something that predates the system."
Damon swallowed and looked around properly this time.
The ground beneath his feet was black stone, cracked and uneven, stretching endlessly in every direction. The sky above was golden in color or rather the rays from the sun was so bright that the entire sky appeared golden in color.
Damon looked up to see the sun but he immediately shifted his eyes away from the blinding ball of light. It was as if he stared at it even for a fraction of a second, his entire existence would be burnt away.
"What is this place… why here…" Damon wondered why the system event had brought him here when he noticed a presence not too far away from him. If it were anyone from the hidden families, then they probably had lot more information than him.
Damon hurriedly dashed forward to not let them escape when he abruptly came to a stop. The people in front of him were definitely not whom he expected. In fact, they weren't people at all in strictest sense.
Damon watched in shock at the three treants like creatures walking in front of him. Just as he had noticed them, they had also noticed his presence. The three turned to look at him. Damon immediately prepared to attack and defend but one of them raised a branch-like arm in surrender.
"We do not mean any harm. Just like you, the throne has marked us as well.
The three were speaking in a very different language, something that Damon had never heard of before but he understood it anyways. The system language feature apparently was not restricted to just the game world. Thanks to that, he was able to clearly understand the treant like creatures as if he had been talking their language his whole life.
"Do you know anything about this world or why we were summoned here?" Damon tried asking the three.
The three looked at each other and then shook their heads in silence.
Damon nodded. He did not really blame them. He expected as much. "If you don't mind, can you tell me what world you are from?" He had heard a lot about these other worlds and the vast multiverse outside of earth but this was the first time he was actually meeting someone from the other worlds.
The treant who had spoken earlier moved. ts bark-like face cracked slightly as glowing green lines pulsed beneath the surface, like sap infused with light. "We come from Gosleria, the green gem of the Xadvis Empire," it said slowly. "A world of roots and cycles. Of growth… and decay."
"Xadvis Empire, huh." Damon nodded, as if he understood everything. In reality, he had no idea what that shit meant. Was that a famous Empire? Was he supposed to know where that was located? Wait, how was one supposed to know where each world or planet was located? How was the general location of a world categorized in the first place?
Damon had so many questions but he knew this was not the place to get his answers. He couldn't really show these strangers that he was a completely noob, no matter how friendly they seemed. After all, anything might be underneath these friendly faces.
He thought of something else to ask the treants when suddenly another spatial rift opened up, right in front of them.
Damon immediately moved several paces away to avoid the shitstorm but shockingly the treants did not do the same. They erected glowing green barriers and then unexpectedly stepped right into the spatial rift.
"Farewell, bloodsucker. We wish you fortune upon the path of Ascension."
The treants' voices echoed as they stepped fully into the rift. The green barriers around their bodies flared once, then were swallowed by the distortion. The spatial tear folded in on itself like a closing wound, leaving behind nothing but cracked black stone.
Damon stood there for a second, staring at the empty space. "Hmmm… so the spatial rifts are not just spatial rifts?"
The treants entered the rift without hesitation but it was still unclear whether the rifts had anything to do with this event. Were they kind of entrance or exits perhaps? Or maybe the treants had some special reason for stepping into one?
Damon thought about things for a while but he simply did not have enough information to make heads or tails of the situation. He then snapped out of it and started running around the endless black lands. It was time to find some more fellow trial takers and see what they were upto.
His luck was pretty good. He ran into another group in another few minutes. This one was some sort of beast kin. They were wearing leather armor and their skin had yellow fur, patterned with darker stripes, and their faces were a strange blend of human and beast. Slitted pupils gleamed beneath heavy brows, and sharp ears twitched constantly, as if listening to sounds Damon couldn't hear.
There were four of them. They froze the moment they noticed him. Claws slid halfway out of gauntlets. Muscles tensed. One of them let out a low growl that vibrated through the cracked stone beneath their feet.
Damon slowed to a stop and raised both hands slightly, palms open. However, the beast kin were not really that keen on peace like the treants. All five of them instant charged at Damon, their bodies covered in flaming red aura.
Damon could feel a palpable increase in their power. It was quite impressive. With their boosted stats, they were actually almost at his stat level. However… stats were just stats.
When the first beastman almost reached Damon, slashing at him, he realized that something was wrong. His body was slow and sluggish despite the powerful red aura surrounding him.
