Chapter 43: The Loong Dragon
Chapter 43: The Loong Dragon
"The auction will be starting in ten minutes!"
"If you have something you want to auction off, list it as soon as possible!"
The host’s voice boomed from the stage below as a chatter behind downstairs.
Verso and Han watched from their elevated VIP suite, looking through the one way reinforced glass window at the sea of wealthy buyers.
Han slowly turned to Verso, his green hair catching the dim light of the room.
"Brother, did you not have wares you wished to trade?"
Verso’s eyebrow twitched at the word wares, he was very confused by Han’s mannerisms.
’Does he think he is a cultivator or something?’
"Yeah... I did actually want to sell some stuff."
Hearing his answer, Han instantly pressed a button on the arm of his velvet chair which let out a buzzing sound outside the room.
A few seconds later, the door of their room hissed open and a man in a sharp black suit entered carrying a silver tray.
He moved with speed that could only be expected from someone that was used to serving tier tier clients.
"Yes, Mister Han?" The worker bowed as he looked at the green haired boy, who simply gestured toward Verso.
The man turned, his expression professionally neutral.
"Yes Sir, how may we be of service to you?"
Verso felt the weight of the moment.
He was sitting in a room that cost more than his life savings, being addressed like he was from some elite family.
He didn’t want to look weak, especially with Han’s butler watching him from the shadows of the room.
"I would like to auction off a few beast souls."
"Ah, great! Please place the ones you would like us to auction on the tray." The man said as he bent slightly and moved the tray closer to Verso.
’What do I sell and how many do I sell...’
Verso hesitated thinking about his options.
Every summon was a resource and he had a feeling he would need everything for the exam tomorrow.
He focused on his soul space and four small cyan flames appeared into existence in his palm. These were four of his maxed out Primitive rank Golems.
’This hurts...’ Verso felt an ache in his heart as he gave up four summons.
He carefully placed the flames on the tray as the man just stood there, waiting for him. For some reason he did not move even after Verso placed the four souls on the trey.
"Huh?" Verso looked up at the man, confused.
"Sir, what Mutant beast soul would you like to pair them with for the auction?" The man asked almost like it was an obvious question.
Hearing his question Verso froze.
He realized then that the Emerald Auction House did not even bother listing individual Primitive rank souls.
The minimum tier for a single listing was Mutant so the worker had just assumed that the four golems were just fillers for a bundle deal.
"Ah, one second."
Verso painfully reached back into his soul space as he grabbed one of his nine Mutant Goliaths which were his heavy hitters.
A larger and more vibrant cyan flame appeared in his hand.
’Ugh...’ Verso could feel the pain in his heart.
He did not even know if this was pain from severing the connection to the summon or just because he did not want to part with it.
He forced his face to remain stoic as he hid the pained expression and slowly placed the Goliath soul on the tray next to the others.
’My Goliath...’
The man pulled the tray back, thanked Verso with a bow and walked out.
"Brother, what manner of summoned beasts are you looking for at the pavilion of treasure?" Han asked, his tone genuinely curious.
’This guy... I am going to lose my shit.’
Hearing his question Verso focused everything on trying to regulate his breathing. Last thing he wanted to do was lash out and make an enemy of the clans.
"I am not exactly sure if I want to buy anything, what about you?"
’I can’t exactly tell him I only have a thousand credits to my name.’
Verso tried to hide his pain as he tried to continue on with a normal conversation.
"I can understand." Han said, leaning back.
"I myself have come to obtain a dragon."
Hearing his answer Verso’s eyes widened.
"Wait, did you just say you are here for a drago-"
Before he could finish, the house lights dimmed as a sudden explosion of spotlights hit the stage below and the crowd erupted into a loud applause.
A man in a fancy golden threaded tuxedo stood in the center, his voice amplified by mana.
"Welcome to the Emerald Auction House, everyone!"
"We know why all of you have tuned in today! You aren’t here for the crystals or the armor! You are here for the Elite Loong Dragon!"
A massive, deafening cheer erupted from the crowd hearing the name of the popular summon.
Han stood up from his chair, his eyes wide with excitement.
"Brother, this is the one I seek!" He said, turning to Verso with a big smile on his face.
"..."
Verso sat in his chair completely stunned by what he had just heard.
He had realized that he had severely underestimated the scale and resources of the Great Clans.
Han wasn’t just here to have fun at the auction. He had came here to get his hands on an elite tier beast.
’He is trying to buy a dragon for tomorrow’s exam...’
Verso fully believed that Han was trying to get his hand on the Loong Dragon for tomorrow’s exam.
Looking at Han’s big smile, he did not even want to imagine what other clan kids were going to be bringing to the exam tomorrow.
"I want my stone golem back..." Verso muttered to himself, sinking into the plush chair.
He had only now realized that he was in for a very, very long night.
