Chapter 34: Son of The Seas
Chapter 34: Son of The Seas
The silence of the temple didn’t last.
Alarm bells went off in Verso’s head a split second before a sound of something crashing echoed from outside the golden doors.
It wasn’t just a noise but it was accompanied with physical vibration that made the stone benches rattle against the floor.
Verso suddenly bolted as he sprinted back through the temple and burst out onto the streets.
He skidded to a halt, his eyes widening as he looked toward the center of the city.
The translucent dome, which had looked like an unbreakable shield against the ocean’s weight, now had a massive hole ripped through its center.
BOOM.
Millions of tons of deep sea water was falling down like a violent waterfall, flooding the city square with terrifying speed.
Along with the water, the leviathans that a few moments ago looked like were locked out of the sphere were also now descending.
Verso turned to Lil Bone, who had followed him out.
"What did you do?!"
The skeleton didn’t provide any answers as it didn’t even look at him.
Instead it began running in frantic circles, its bony hands flapping in a state of pure, mindless panic.
The skeleton was having a complete breakdown as it looked at the water level rising.
Realizing he was on his own, Verso looked back at the sky.
A monster the size of an entire apartment complex was swimming down through the waterfall, its massive body casting a large shadow over the city.
The sheer pressure of its presence made Verso’s lungs feel like they were being squeezed.
"Oh, fuck me!"
He didn’t wait to see the impact of the beast falling down as he turned on his heel and sprinted back into the temple.
If there was a solution to this, it had to be inside. He ran past the rows of benches, his eyes searching the massive room for anything.
Then he saw it. Directly in front of the coiling stone leviathan statue stood a small stone podium.
’There must be something there.’
He ran toward the front of the hall, vaulting over the stone benches and skidding to a stop in front of the pedestal.
Floating just above the stone surface of the podium was a small, flickering blue flame.
It didn’t give off heat. Instead, as Verso got closer, the air around it grew unnervingly cold.
He reached out toward it in a desperate hurry and the moment his fingers touched the fire, a system window flashed in front of his face.
[Would You Like to Absorb Talent: Son of The Seas?]
"What?"
Verso didn’t even have time to read the full message as a violent crash sounded behind him.
CRASH
The massive golden doors were pulverized into scrap metal as something heavy slammed into the temple entrance.
[Summon ’Nameless Skeleton’ Dead.]
A sharp spike of pain hit Verso’s chest as the notification appeared.
He whipped his head around and saw a giant serpent coiling in the doorway. Its head was large enough to fill the entire entrance, and its bright yellow eyes were fixed directly onto him.
He was trapped.
He didn’t have time to summon his golems, and even if he did bring them out, they wouldn’t last three seconds against a beast that could vaporize Lil Bone with a single strike.
The serpent let out a hiss that shook the very foundations of the temple as it coiled its body, preparing for a lunge that would end him.
"Yes!" Verso shouted, his voice echoing in the large room.
"I accept!"
[Talent Absorbed: Son of The Seas]
The serpent lunged. Its mouth opened wide, revealing rows of needle like teeth that shimmered in the blue light.
Verso didn’t even have time to blink before the darkness claimed him.
Back in his room, Verso shot up straight in his bed, his heart hammering against his ribs like a sledgehammer.
He was drenched in sweat, his shirt clinging to his back as he gasped for air.
He sat there for several minutes, staring at the walls of his room as his mind struggled to separate the sensation of the serpent’s teeth biting into him from reality.
This was the second time he had died without being able to fight back and now it was becoming a frustrating pattern.
"What was that at the end?"
He shook his head, trying to clear the fog of death as he focused his mind, pulling up his status window to see what he had received from the temple.

"Son of the Seas..."
Verso sat on his bed, completely frozen. His mind hit a wall as he stared at the two talents.
"No way..."
The words came out in a stunned whisper. What he was looking at literally defied every law of nature he had ever been taught.
Since the day he was born, he had heard the same absolute theory. Every person awakens with a single talent.
It was a fundamental rule of the world and what he saw on the screen completely broke that theory.
He slowly focused on the new talent, pulling up the detailed description.
---
Talent: Son of The Seas
Description:As the son of the seas, you have superior synergy with lifeforms of the seas and control over water.
Perk: [Water Manipulation]
---
Verso’s eyes opened wide.
The description he had read was simple, but the implications of what it said were staggering.
This wasn’t a utility talent or a low grade synergy for some type of monster.
This was literally a peak tier elemental talent.
In the real world, a talent like Son of The Seas was sought out greatly by the most powerful clans and elite families in the country because of its potential.
It provided an individual with complete environmental control and allowed a summoner to perfectly utilize their aquatic summons.
This was the same category as Headmaster Alicia’s legendary Ice Talent.
Slowly a sinister, hungry smile slowly spread across Verso’s face as he stared at the blue window.
He wasn’t just a summoner with a strong talent anymore, he had become something else entirely.
"I guess the death was worth it."
