Chapter 165: Turning the Field
Chapter 165: Turning the Field
The moment she grabbed it, the sphere dimmed slightly, signaling that it had been captured.
Nox laughed out loud.
"Got it!"
Arthur grinned.
"Nice."
Now the real fight would begin.
On the raised platform Selene had already drawn her bow.
And her gaze was locked on the scout.
The moment Nox grabbed the core, the atmosphere in the hall shifted.
Selene saw it clearly from her platform.
The glowing sphere dimmed slightly in Nox’s hands.
Her lips curled.
"That sneaky rat..."
But she wasn’t worried.
From where she stood, the battlefield belonged to her. The platform gave her the perfect angle. She could shoot across the hall and still keep an eye on Torren at the center.
The tanker stood unmoving like a fortress, the core hovering above his palm while his massive shield faced forward.
He couldn’t attack, but he didn’t need to.
Not yet.
Selene’s eyes swept across the rest of the opposing team.
Arthur.
Ryn.
Neither of them had rushed forward blindly.
Still, that didn’t change the fact that the weakest person on their side held the core.
Her bow rose slowly.
A breath left her lips.
Then.. TWANG!
The arrow cut through the air like a whistle.
Across the hall, Nox’s eyes widened.
"Ah!"
She ducked instinctively.
The arrow slammed into the wooden crate behind her.
THUNK!
"Hey! Hey! She’s shooting already!" Nox shouted.
But Selene didn’t stop.
Another arrow flew.
Then another.
TWANG! TWANG!
Each shot came faster than the last.
But these weren’t simple arrows.
A faint glow flickered along their shafts.
Arthur noticed it immediately.
His eyes shifted slightly.
Althea.
The enchanter stood behind the battlefield, her hands glowing faintly as threads of mana wrapped around Selene’s arrows.
Enhancement.
Speed. Impact. Penetration.
Arthur’s grin widened slightly.
Good teamwork.
Meanwhile Nox was already moving.
She darted left, rolled over a crate, then kicked off a wooden pillar to change direction.
Another arrow tore past her shoulder.
"Hey! Hey! That one was close!" she yelled.
Selene clicked her tongue.
"Stop moving."
The arrows kept coming.
TWANG!
TWANG!
Arthur watched carefully.
He had to admit it.
Selene was good.
Her arrows weren’t random shots. Each one forced Nox into a smaller and smaller area.
She was slowly cornering her.
At the same time Althea had already begun moving across the hall.
Her target was obvious.
The third core.
Arthur saw it immediately.
So that’s the real plan.
Selene would pin down the scout while Althea secured the second core.
Once that happened, Torren would only need to hold the center.
Basic, but very effective.
Arthur cracked his neck lightly.
"Not bad."
But to him...
Arrows weren’t just attacks.
They were tools under his Vector Sovereignty skill.
Ryn noticed Arthur’s calm expression and chuckled.
"You’re enjoying this."
Arthur shrugged.
"A little."
Across the hall Nox screamed again.
"Arthur! Ryn! A little help here!"
Another arrow streaked past her ear.
WHIZZ!
Arthur stepped forward slowly.
Selene saw him move.
Her eyes narrowed.
"You want to block?"
Her fingers pulled the string again.
This time the arrow shone brighter.
Althea’s enchantment wrapped around it like a glowing ribbon.
Arthur noticed that too.
She’s boosting the next shot.
Good.
That made it even better.
The arrow flew.
TWANG!
It screamed across the hall straight toward Nox.
The scout froze for half a second.
"Ah..!"
Before she could react..
STEP
Arthur vanished.
Intent Step Activated.
One moment he stood several meters away.
The next..
He appeared directly in front of the arrow.
Selene’s eyes widened.
He moved that fast?
But Arthur didn’t dodge.
He stood his ground as his arm moved once.
CLANG!
The arrow slowed towards his raised arm.
For a split second it looked like the attack had been stopped.
Then Arthur twisted his wrist.
The force of the arrow bent with the motion.
Redirected.
His action wasn’t random or careless.
Arthur had waited for this moment from the beginning.
The arrow turned mid-air and shot away like a rebounding bullet.
Selene’s breath caught.
"...What?"
The projectile flew straight across the battlefield.
And its new target was..
Althea.
The enchanter had just reached the third core.
Her hand stretched forward.
Victory was seconds away.
Then..
WHIZZ!
Her instincts screamed.
Althea barely had time to react before the arrow she had empowered herself came flying straight back at her.
Her eyes widened.
"—!"
She twisted her body sideways and raised a barrier at the last second.
BOOM!
The impact exploded against her shield.
The force pushed her back two full steps.
Mana rippled wildly around her arms.
The core slipped just out of reach.
Althea stared at the arrow embedded in the floor beside her.
For a moment she didn’t speak.
Selene’s jaw tightened on the platform.
"...He redirected it."
Across the hall Arthur lowered his blade casually.
"Thanks for the assist," he said lightly.
The move had been simple.
But the effect was devastating.
One arrow.
And the entire flow of the battle changed.
Commander Lyra watched from the side of the hall.
Her eyes shone slightly.
She had heard the story.
The dungeon battle.
The deflection.
But seeing it in person was different.
Arthur hadn’t rushed.
He hadn’t panicked.
He waited.
He read the battlefield.
Then he flipped the entire situation in one motion.
Lyra smiled quietly.
He really does see the battlefield clearly.
Back on the platform Selene stared down at him.
"...So the story was true."
Arthur looked up at her.
"Want to try again?"
The challenge in his voice was obvious.
Selene felt something tighten in her chest.
Excitement.
But also frustration.
Meanwhile Torren had watched everything from the center.
His thick brows furrowed.
"...That kid."
He tightened his grip on the floating core.
But that was the moment Ryn had been waiting for.
While everyone watched Arthur...
Ryn had been moving.
Step by step.
Slowly and quietly.
He had circled the battlefield while the arrows flew.
And now he stood right beside Torren.
The tanker finally noticed.
"...When did you—"
