Chapter 150: Rumors That Don’t Sleep
Chapter 150: Rumors That Don’t Sleep
Arthur watched quietly while she calculated the prices.
After a few minutes she finally looked up.
"Alright. Here’s the breakdown."
She pointed to the first pile.
"Regular monster cores and materials. Eight yen total."
Then the mutated items.
"These ones have stronger traces. Twelve yen."
Arthur nodded.
"And the special core."
She lifted the strange ritual core he had brought earlier.
"The same rate as last time. Twenty five yen."
Finally she held up the boss core.
"This one is slightly higher quality than the last boss core you brought here."
Arthur waited.
"Thirty yen."
Arthur whistled softly.
"So the total?"
Elena finished writing and turned the paper toward him.
"Seventy five yen."
Arthur smiled.
"Nice."
Elena opened a drawer beneath the counter and placed several coins into a pouch.
She tied it securely and handed it to him.
"Here."
Arthur took the pouch.
The weight felt satisfying in his hand.
"Thanks."
Elena nodded.
"No problem."
Arthur slipped the pouch into his storage device.
Then he straightened and turned to leave.
"See you next time."
Elena watched him walk away.
He moved through the hall casually like nothing unusual had happened today.
When he finally disappeared into the crowd, Elena leaned back in her chair.
She exhaled slowly.
"...what a strange guy."
Nothing about him ever made sense.
He brought rare materials like it was normal.
He walked into dangerous missions and came back smiling.
And somehow, every time he returned, he carried something valuable with him.
Elena shook her head quietly.
"He’s a misfit even among misfits."
Meanwhile, Arthur left the exchange hall with the pouch of coins safely stored away. The noise of the guild slowly faded behind him as he walked toward the dorm area of the stronghold.
He didn’t have anywhere else to go.
No meetings.
No training scheduled.
And honestly, he didn’t want anything else today.
His body finally started reminding him how much he had pushed himself.
The moment the tension from the mission disappeared, the fatigue came crashing down on him like a wave.
Arthur stretched his neck while walking.
"...yeah. I definitely overdid it again."
Still, a smile formed on his face.
He couldn’t help it.
The mission had gone far better than he expected.
When he joined the silver squad, he only planned to observe how things worked in a higher ranked team. Maybe contribute here and there.
Instead the dungeon turned into something completely different.
Second class ogres.
Strange variants.
And a boss that could control gravity.
Arthur shook his head lightly.
"You never know what’s waiting inside a dungeon."
But one thing was certain.
He had shown what he could do.
That fight wasn’t something the explorers would forget easily.
Arthur reached the dorm building and pushed the door open. The hallway was quiet this late in the evening.
He walked down the corridor and stopped in front of his room.
The key turned with a soft click.
Arthur stepped inside and closed the door behind him.
The room felt peaceful.
Simple.
Exactly the kind of place he needed right now.
He dropped his storage device and badge one the desk and started removing his armor piece by piece.
The metal felt heavier than usual tonight.
Once the armor was off, he rolled his shoulders slowly.
"Much better."
Arthur headed toward the small wash area in the corner of the room.
He raised a hand slightly and summoned a controlled stream of heat from his fire element.
Within seconds, the water in the basin began to steam.
The warmth filled the small space.
Arthur washed quickly, letting the heat relax his muscles.
The tension in his body slowly melted away.
His eyelids felt heavier with every passing minute.
"...don’t fall asleep standing," he muttered to himself.
A few minutes later he stumbled back toward the bed.
Arthur didn’t even bother thinking about the day anymore.
The moment his body touched the mattress, sleep claimed him.
Just like that.
He had no idea what his actions were stirring up outside.
Far from the dorms, in another part of the stronghold, the mood was very different.
Inside a large office, a squad representative stood in front of a desk.
The man behind the desk leaned back in his chair, clearly annoyed.
He was one of the commanders of the stronghold.
A broad man with sharp eyes and a permanent frown that made him look irritated even when he wasn’t speaking.
The representative cleared his throat.
"There’s something you should hear about, commander."
The commander tapped his fingers against the desk.
"If it’s another complaint about sharing loots, I don’t care."
"No, sir. It’s about an ogre dungeon mission issued earlier today."
The commander glanced up slightly.
"Hmm?"
The representative continued.
"A silver squad from the Sixth division returned not long ago. Some of the members were talking at the tavern."
The commander snorted.
"They always talk."
"Yes sir, but the rumors were... unusual."
That caught the commander’s attention a little more.
"What kind of rumors?"
The representative opened a small notebook.
"They mentioned a new explorer who joined their mission. Apparently he was outstanding throughout the dungeon."
The commander’s expression remained unimpressed.
"Outstanding how?"
The representative read from his notes.
"They claim he destabilized the skill of a second class ogre."
The commander’s fingers paused.
"...go on."
"They also said he deflected the attack of a new variant ogre. A long range type that used thrown stones."
The commander leaned forward slightly now.
"And?"
The representative hesitated before saying the last part.
"And according to them... he killed the boss monster by himself."
Silence filled the room.
The commander stared at him.
Then he let out a short laugh.
"That’s nonsense."
The representative quickly nodded.
"I thought the same at first."
"But?"
"But I looked into it."
The commander’s expression darkened.
"And?"
The representative lowered his voice.
"The explorer they mentioned is the same boy who awakened recently."
The commander frowned.
"Which one?"
"The one you rejected on awakening day."
The room grew quiet again.
The commander’s face slowly twisted into something unpleasant.
