Chapter 140: When a King Steps Forward
Chapter 140: When a King Steps Forward
But Arthur had already turned his head.
His eyes moved toward the throne.
He had been waiting for this moment.
And just like he expected...
The boss finally moved.
The huge ogre slowly stood up from the stone throne.
At first the movement was small.
But the moment it rose to its full height, the entire chamber seemed to grow heavier.
The air thickened.
The tainted mana surrounding the dungeon seal began pouring into the creature like a dark river.
Arthur felt the pressure instantly.
This is the real deal.
The boss ogre didn’t rush forward.
It didn’t scream or swing its fists.
Instead it stepped down slowly from the throne.
Each step echoed across the chamber.
THUD.
THUD.
THUD.
Every step made the explorers feel the weight pressing deeper on their bodies.
The captain wiped the blood off his axe and watched carefully.
"Stay alert," he muttered.
No one spoke.
The monster’s presence alone was enough to silence them.
Arthur’s eyes narrowed as he observed the creature.
Three steps... four...
He counted quietly in his head.
The boss was angry.
That much was obvious.
But it still moved calmly.
Carefully.
Arthur almost smiled.
You’re calculating too.
The monster raised one hand.
Dark mana twisted around its arm.
Arthur’s eyes sharpened.
Here it comes.
The boss slammed its palm toward the ground.
A heavy pulse spread out instantly.
BOOOOM!
The pressure dropped like a mountain.
The explorers gasped.
Their bodies were forced downward as if invisible chains had wrapped around them.
"Gah—!"
One of them collapsed to a knee immediately.
Another fell face first against the ground.
The stone floor itself cracked as the force pushed everything down.
Gravity.
A debuff skill.
Even the ground beneath them sank slightly from the pressure.
The captain gritted his teeth and forced himself upright.
His muscles trembled as he leaned against his axe.
"Don’t... fall..."
But most of the squad was already pinned down.
Even Ryn struggled to push his arms against the ground.
Arthur watched the scene calmly.
And then he moved.
Intent Step.
His body vanished.
The gravity field tried to grab him but he slipped out of the center before the weight fully settled.
Intent Step again.
The second movement carried him across the battlefield.
And then..
He appeared on top of the dungeon seal.
The explorers lifted their heads as much as they could.
"There!"
"That idiot..."
Ryn groaned as he pushed against the ground.
"He’s actually doing it..."
Even under the crushing weight, hope sparked inside the squad.
Arthur stood above the glowing seal.
Exactly where the tainted mana gathered.
For a moment the explorers felt relief.
If anyone could break the seal now... It was him.
But the boss reacted faster than they expected.
The monster’s eyes locked onto Arthur instantly.
Its hand lifted again.
Arthur noticed it too.
Fast.
The boss slammed its palm again.
BOOOOM!
The gravity field expanded.
This time directly over the seal.
Arthur felt it immediately.
His body slammed down to one knee.
CRACK!
The seal beneath him fractured a bit from the pressure.
His shoulders sank.
His breath slowed.
Even lifting his head felt heavy.
Below him the explorers groaned.
They knew that feeling already.
If the pressure increased any further...
Some of them wouldn’t survive it.
Arthur exhaled slowly.
"So you saw that coming."
The boss stared at him silently.
Its reaction had been almost instant.
As if it understood Arthur’s plan the moment he moved.
Smart.
Arthur’s body trembled slightly under the weight.
Standing felt impossible.
He finally understood what the others had been experiencing.
If a weaker explorer had been here...
They would have been crushed already.
Even some of the silver squad members looked like they were reaching their limit.
Their hope had been placed on Arthur.
And now even he was forced down.
For a moment the dungeon grew quiet again.
Then Arthur chuckled softly.
"I guess..."
He planted one hand on the ground.
"...it’s time to be serious."
The boss watched him carefully.
It had expected Arthur to escape.
To dodge the gravity again.
But Arthur didn’t move away.
Instead he stayed right there.
And then he stood up.
Slowly.
First from one knee.
Then both feet.
To the explorers watching below, it looked impossible.
The pressure that had pinned them down like insects...
Arthur simply rose through it.
His body straightened.
His shoulders relaxed.
The air around him changed.
Something invisible spread outward.
The ground around Arthur trembled slightly.
Not from the gravity.
But from something pushing back.
Sovereign’s Domain.
Arthur didn’t say the name.
But his will expanded quietly.
The invisible field around him bent.
The gravity pressing down from the boss began to distort the moment it entered Arthur’s range.
It didn’t disappear completely.
But it weakened.
Subtly.
Naturally.
As if the world itself had decided Arthur’s position could not be suppressed.
The explorers watched with wide eyes.
"How...?"
Arthur flexed his fingers once.
"Much better."
He pulled his dagger out.
The blade gleamed faintly.
Below him the dungeon seal pulsed with dark energy.
Tainted mana flowed through its cracks like black veins.
Arthur crouched slightly.
"Let’s see if this works."
The boss finally reacted.
It raised its arm again.
But Arthur was faster.
He drove the dagger down.
CLACK!
The blade stabbed into the seal.
For a split second nothing happened.
Then—
CRRRRAAAACK!
A deep fracture spread across the stone surface.
The seal shattered along the line of the strike.
Dark energy burst out violently.
The tainted mana that had been feeding the boss scattered like smoke in the wind.
Arthur exhaled slowly.
"Finally."
The pressure around him faded.
His shoulders relaxed as the gravity debuff weakened.
Below him the explorers felt the same thing.
The crushing force slowly lifted.
Ryn blinked in disbelief.
"He actually did it..."
Arthur pulled the dagger free.
More cracks spread across the seal.
This time it had only taken one strike.
Last time he had struggled to even damage it.
Now the blade had split it open.
Arthur looked down at the broken seal and smiled.
"Yeah... this skill is definitely useful."
The dungeon chamber trembled again.
But this time it wasn’t from the seal.
It was from the boss.
The monster’s roar shook the entire dungeon.
