Chapter 743: Pieces Of Monster
Chapter 743: Pieces Of Monster
When the group pushed forward, they saw that things were not as simple as they had imagined. The holes dug around had grown more ragged compared to what they had been earlier. A sign that the dwarven mining city had begun to break in some way. From what they could see, there were also lots of signs that other beasts or people had been here.
"I can't tell what these tracks are. They don't look like any that I have seen before." Jerold's mind was racing while he tried to place the tracks. But with how messed up they were, there was not a single one that was solid enough to be able to make out.
"I can't tell either. We should be ready to fight whatever it is thigh.. It might be multiple monsters." There was a slight stress on this when Clark said it. He knew that they could be coming up against a monster that they had not seen yet. That was just the nature for the blood moon cultists.
This unsettled the group even more, but it also showed them more than what they needed to know right away. Especially when they started to see the pieces of metal around the craters from mining testing.
"These are all forged alloys. I would say that I can't even start to reuse them." There was a lot to be said about this. Ralph admitting that he couldn't forge the pieces of metal they were seeing meant that they were advanced. Not something the dwarves would be just letting fall around.
"I don't think that the city is at all the way it should be in all that smoke. Isa, Grace, can you two make a large gust of wind?" Since they couldn't see anything through the smoke, Maria figured this would be the best chance to do anything.
Between the youngling phoenix and the wind that Isa could create in her fused form with her partner, it made sense that the two could give a large enough gust to show off what was within the smoke.
As the wind energy was gathered, everyone prepared to fight as much as they could. The dragon welp and the molten boar took positions so that they could guard the front with Brad. the three would be the main defense against whatever might appear.
In a burst, Wind was kicked up and dust was pushed up all around the group. But a distance away, the smoke that was moving was also kicked up. Yet, it was not all smoke. Clark saw that only half of the smoke moved. The other half was not affected whatsoever by the wind.
'Shadow swarm centipede- monster
This is a monster made from fusing the dark queen centipede and its elven tamer. The bonds with dark energy were massively increased along with the ability that the queen had to separate itself in to segments using dark energy to link them together.
This could have been a beast if grown properly, but through the formation, it was forced to be a monster with a more brutal personality.
It will do this to overwhelm its prey along with spreading shadows around an area to make an artificial night without stars. It is also slightly weakening to those within due to the decaying aspects of dark energy.
It is a vicious monster with high enough intelligence to hunt and coordinate its body sections to attack differently in unison. However, it can not communicate with others and is extremely territorial. It will often only move to the will of others which are more powerful than it.
This is similar to the dark queen centipede beast it is part of. However, it holds the same weakness as the shadow queen centipede. It can not attach damaged sections of its body to form the large single body that it has as a true form. Therefore, if the sections are damaged, they need to heal first causing the main beast and now monster to be unable to take its true form.
Using light energy can greatly slow the control the main head of the monster has over the smaller segments. However, the smaller segments can act autonomously since they still have false pincers and sharp legs still…'
Crim exited the taming space and took the slime armor form. Clark felt that this would be a very dangerous battle. "A monster is currently divided up and attacking that city. We can see some of it but it's still attacking."
Clark quickly explained what the monster was. That was why they couldn't tell what the tracks were and why there were so many of them. "It's a stronger cultist then. One that can take down dwarven technology and whatever they have to fight against it." There was a slight worrisome vibration from the spirit steel sword and Reese called out the two additional swords that they could control.
They had to go all out here.
"I would bet that this was one of the stronger monsters they had under their control. Only a strong monster could send it to do anything." Clark reinforced what Reese was already thinking. They would be pushing themselves a lot. "But it has to be injured if it hasn't made itself a whole body again. That's why there is so much dark energy causing shadows like that.
But we can somewhat see through it too. It's not pitch black any more."
This just showed them that the monster was weaker than what it had been. A chance to handle it was much higher. "We have to rescue whatever is left of the dwarven city. But why are they attacking it like this?" From what Isa could see, this was an attack to destroy.
"They aren't taking the materials, but what if they were making sure that the dwarven mining city wouldn't return to wherever they have the dungeon they came from?" Grace looked at around as everyone raised their eyebrows in surprise and worry. "It's what I would do first. Trap their greatest weapon then take over the dungeon they have hidden.
It's their weakness from what you have all said about them in the wilderness."
"I hate that I think you're right. We need to rescue any dwarf in there so we can figure out how to save whatever the cultists want to do. Most likely infect their entire world and erase the dwarven race as a whole."
The multiple attacks that Clark and the group had uncovered showed that the cultists were using their power to make a massive move beyond what they had understood.
If the cultists had succeeded in the elven territory, then they would have taken over access to the elven world. The same was happening here right now. They weren't just trying to destroy cities, they wanted to take over entire worlds to make their ideal image. That everyone should evolve to their monstrous ideals.
Pushing forward even more, the group felt a chill run through them as soon as they to the edge of the shadows. This was the weakening effects of the darkness energy that was spread through the air by the monster at work here.
They also began to hear the sounds of skittering on metal. It stressed the situation even more before Clark spotted one of them
The black body and shallow cracks in the carapace. It had four spikes that acted as legs, similar to a centipede. But where it had a set of pincers, he could tell that it was not a real set of pincers with a mouth. Instead, they just appeared to be serrated and sharp for tearing or causing damage in general.
Before anyone else could react, Maria dashed forward and stabbed in to one of the cracks in its carapace. Her dagger pierced it creating a flailing before a silent cry. It didn't have a mouth, so it couldn't cry. But there was a lot of other skittering sounds as the other sections of the monster had been alerted.
They were connected by dark energy and controlled by the head of the shadow swarm centipede.
Two more leaped out at Brad and Ralph but found themselves being struck with a lot more force than what they had expected. Brad hadn't even needed to defend. The molten boar had charged in front of both Ralph and Brad to crush the two sections of the shadow swarm centipede. Their cracked carapaces proved to be their downfall yet again.
The molten boar had easily used its high physical force and tough body to crack and cause blunt damage.
There was more to this though, the sounds of skittering were only increasing as more metal portions in front of the group were revealed to them. The shadows decreasing in the immediate area due to three sections being killed off was enough.
The large mechanical chunks of metal had red splotches on them. When Clark looked harder, he noticed that they were all from pieces of beasts and what might have been a dwarf at a time. This attack was recent. It had just happened hours ago, not days or weeks!
