Chapter 654: A Lot Of Info

Chapter 654: A Lot Of Info

Walking back in to Nova city felt as if they were walking in to the most dangerous place that they had been in before.

While it wasn't the same as the violent jungle where nature literally was against them, this was a worse place in a sense. Many eyes fell on them as they walked. Many faces showed their interest and their desires. But the reasons behind them were definitely not innocent.

The group wore their academy marked clothing. This wasn't because they were trying to fit in, but because it showed off their affiliation and where they were going. But more than that, they wore every pin and every insignia of their allies along with the medals that they had received when they had won the tournament of first years. Ella wore hers for her age group as well.

Not that any of them cared about what year they were in this academy. They didn't plan on remaining for the full four years any longer. They were ahead of that by miles.

When guards spotted them, it was an instant whispering. This showed more than just what the guards were doing. i t proved that the guards easily recognized the group by their accomplishments. Not because of those accomplishments, but because their bosses who paid them in secret had told them what the group looked like. Every single member.

This along with other small interactions were not missed. Especially when Clark noticed a few guards walking behind them a ways back. This was just another reason for the group to begin to move at a faster pace.

"It's like we are in some parade just for them to watch. Like we are entertainment." The disgust dripped from Grace's voice as she moved closer to Ralph. He naturally shielded her with his larger body. He didn't like the attention either. It made him feel dirty even though they were plenty clean.

"Just keep walking with your head held high. They will see that they can't do anything to us sooner than later. We already have a few people on their way for us." Isa pointed ahead of her. There were more people coming by, but they wore the red and orange clothing bearing a flaming lion. The Mane family insignias stood out brightly in the dull atmosphere of the city.

It was easier to spot them as well due to the fact that there was not a single person outside of their hmes. The curfew that had been placed was said to be due to the fact that blood moon cult members had attempted to enter the city. Those who would be out would be penalized as potential spies or terrorists.

In reality, this was the families having their wars of silent power. They controlled the pawns, the general public this way. They could openly fight as they needed, sometimes even in the streets. But they could also ensure that those who did not need to see certain things would not.

"Lady Clara sent us to greet you. She will be arriving at Nova Academy along with multiple others you know well soon. Please allow us to escort you as the victors who stood tall and showed every City what Nova can do!" The announcement from the Mane family member was loud for a reason.

This let all prying ears and eyes to understand that this was just a family honoring a good batch of students who had stood tall for their academy and city. In reality, though, it was just another threat to the guards that marched forward.

"That depends, can you remove your flowing rub beast from that flag pole and let it relax?" Clark had not expected that the people who came to greet them would be hiding their beasts in such plain sight.

However, he was more surprised by the kind of beast. The flowing rug beast was similar to the possessed beasts or inanimate objects that became beasts from unique energies flowing in to them over time. The reason that Clark had used the analysis on them was that the flags they brought with them were moving without winds.

"You are better than we believed. We brought these secondary beasts to act as shields. They have the iron fiber skill. A unique mutation that they worked hard for."

The guard was impressed. He had been assigned to this with his protective guard squad by Clara because of their training with these beasts.

As the flowing rug beasts floated in their aur, the metallic fibers and their wind affinity became clear. They were unique and many of the guards seeing this that were not under the control of the Mane family retreated. They knew well that these were the guardians of the Mane household. Tough and adaptable defenders that could easily stop their attacks.

"As we escort you, information you must know can be spoken. We have a wind wall bat with us to block the transfer of sounds." another Mane house guard held a white fluffy looking bat in his hands. It opened its mouth as a gust of wind circulated around all of them. It was a small and adorable beast, but stronger than expected.

"While you were away, the blood moon cult managed to send small groups of monsters here. They took down multiple guards but failed to infiltrate the city. However, merchants were hunted down and the city was isolated. The Mourne family has removed much competition and assimilated their guards along with their properties."

"Instead of helping protect the coyote, they made a power grab as you may expect. Lady Clara was forced to act while her father handled the threats coming at the city. We are matched evenly now. Many students have not left the academy but some professors are taking them to one family or another.

Mostly they are being forced in to servitude with the Mourne family so that they can take over the academy as a whole."

The vice head master was injured and is unconscious in a healer's tent. He was poisoned and it has yet to leave his system. The headmaster was lost during the recent dungeon adventure. But that left Sir Alexander to fully take the true mantle of head master of Nova Academy. That spawned a large battle between him and a hidden blood cult member.

But we have our suspicions about how that member entered the city when it was on lockdown."

"Due to this, the Mourne family called for a curfew while they closed businesses through force. Many merchants fled along with some families. Those who are still here are low on supplies and need healers. It is not a good position since the forces at each other's throats are too evenly matched."

"Lady Clara instructed us to escort you for safety, but said that you may have other plans. We are at your disposal Young master Clark. You may not be born a member of the Mane family, however, we were told to treat you as Lady Clara's younger brother. And also as the next real head master of Nova City."

This last statement brought Clark's eyebrows up. He had not expected that this would be the direction things would go. He expected the Mane family to give General Mane the title of city lord. Or even Clara to take it. Not himself. But it also showed how much he had affected things here with his actions.

The Mane family had plans. They were not just trying to clean the city up because of their own sense of justice. They wanted some power too. But they recognized that corrupt thought within themselves. That was the difference between them and the Mourne family.

In choosing to allow Clark this title of city lord when they succeeded, it showed that they were willing to lower themselves for the betterment of all people within the city. A major historical event happening right here that would shape more than just the future of this city.

"Did they really just say you would be the city lord? What is even happening Clark?" Maria hadn't expected this turn. Regardless of all the information that was thrown at them. This was a lot to handle.

"I didn't expect that either. But ever since Clara offered me a chance, they might have had this in mind. I want revenge. But I didn't say that was all I wanted when I was saved from myself by the Mane family, by Clara. I didn't want anyone else to lose their family because of a foolish corrupted family. So I will take whatever title and use it to ensure that it does not happen.

Plus, let's be real, that's just a title anyways. Plenty of people will be here to help me repair our home."

Maria's stunned look on her face made everyone understand that they felt exactly the same. While they hadn't actually seen the real plans of what they would be doing here, it was clear. They would be directly leading the charge to change everything. The first step, head to the academy and make it a safe haven for all. Then move outwards from there.
