Chapter 579: A Kind Mother
Chapter 579: A Kind Mother
'Toxic slime salamander- legendary
This beast is one of an extremely few beasts that was able to overcome weakness to grow stronger than any other of its species. Due to the extreme heat and toxic water, it gained the third poison affinity. This process took over a hundred years to occur.
The extremely toxic slime that it creates to coat its skin is what naturally protects it. This salamander had extreme heat and poison resistance. It is also able to breathe underwater no matter the toxicity of the water. Due to this, it is harder to harm. The slime on its skin also acts as another layer of protection.
The eggs that this beast protects will take seventy years to hatch. Beyond that, they will hatch in to a new species of beast following their parent. This will further cause aggression if any beast or being attempts to get near the pool where they have laid their eggs.
Their favorite color is purple due to their unique eyesight that developed to see underwater without any issues. They also enjoy vibrant blues and yellows due to this. Their eyes contain a unique poison that can be used to clean the eyes of any dangerous dust or metal powders. However, it requires harvesting the entire eyeball of the beast.
If left alone, the toxic slime salamander is intelligent enough in its adult form to understand basic body language and some words even though it can not speak itself. It will often let beasts pass by without eating them unless it is in a state of starvation. It is considered a kind beast overall.'
"Isa, if you have anything bright purple in your spatial ring, give it to me." Clark looked at isa and she didn't question him.
As odd as a question this was, she knew that Clark wasn't asking just to be funny or to mess around. They all were under the watch of this larger beast than they expected to find. However, it was just looking at them. Clearly, it wasn't showing aggression at the moment.
"I have some purple silk. It's not bad for making weather resistant robes out of since it's from the purple blossom worms." Isa held up the swath of fabric. Instantly, the toxic slime salamander focused on it like a predator seeing prey for the first time in a long time.
"I understand that you have been growing those beautiful purple flowers. Can we trade you this purple fabric so that we can make you a flag out of it?" Clark saw the toxic slime salamander turn its head. Its eyes never left the purple fabric that it clearly was getting more and more attached to the longer it saw it.
A small rumbling came from the toxic slime salamander's body as it shifted its head to a small cluster of five false saplings. "Maria, the nectar of those flowers is useful. Be very careful not to get it on your skin. It will be good for you to use in potions but even better for Ralph's molten boar and Jerold's armored chameleon to eat."
"Isa, have your crystal golem make a crystal post. I am going to make a flag for the toxic slime salamander. It loves vibrant colors. Especially purple, blue, and yellow. It has unique eyes to see in toxic water." The group was wondering just what was going on. However, from the way that the beast moved, it was very clear that Clark was spot on here.
It was very odd to see the perfect crystal golem acting to erect a set of tall crystal pillars. Normally, when it made crystals, they were temporary for protection. They would not last long. However, Isa allowed the golem to use more energy to make a permanent crystal with the natural earth energy that was within the mud and ground overall.
These crystal pillars were easily reached By Clark as he pulled the purple fabric around it. The slight breeze from the geysers in the dungeon caused the fabric to move immediately. A small glint in the toxic slime salamander's eyes proved that this was accepted. It didn't even react other than watching the new gift it had just won.
"It is a powerful beast, but it is a very passive one. It won't attack us as long as we don't give it a reason to. But its young will need those false sapling flowers when they hatch. But that can be years from now. Its eggs take over seventy years to hatch." Clark laughed a little.
He was in his own world of amazements as he thought about how much this beast like the vibrant color of the purple fabric.
"I will need to record this in detail. I have not seen such a beast. However, I believe that the absence of humans and their partners here has allowed this beast to properly grow without issue. It will be better to have a recorded instance of the power this beast has if bothered." Ella's perspective switched to the dangers of those that might come her to explore later.
It was only natural that there might be some issues if they think this beast is worth fighting.
"You both need to just come back down to earth. Clark is sitting here talking about purple this and that. Now Ella is trying to record it in her notes because its different than what she knows and super dangerous. What even is this dungeon?" Reese was exasperated and Jerold was right there with him.
"I am slightly annoyed. I didn't get to fight more. But I like this better. A mom guarding her kids." Brad had a more positive thought process about this. His eyes were looking along the entire large size of the toxic slime salamander. He believed that it had gained the strength ended to protect family, that meant a lot in his eyes.
"I have the flowers. We gathered the ones that it let us. Should we walk more?" Isa had been the one to store the flowers away as she was the one asking for the plan. Maria and Grace were also ready to make a move since they were still uncomfortable with such a large beast waiting around them.
"Thank you for the trade. We will warn other not to bother you and to bring gifts if they would like to make a trade." Clark was loud and polite. The toxic slime salamander lowered itself and glanced in to Clark's eyes.
The rumbling from the toxic slime salamander came again, but everyone somehow knew that it was grateful for the kind interaction and trade. Especially since the group did not move closer to the large bubbling pool whatsoever.
'Hidden quest- first friends
Requirement: befriend the toxic slime salamander becoming the first human friends it has ever made. It will always recognize its friends due to their kind gestures.
Reward: ten toxic salamander slime vial'
'Toxic slime salamander vial- ultra rare
This is a vial that holds the slime from a toxic slime salamander. Normally, the slime is too toxic to store with the basic vials used for alchemy. Therefore, this is very unique. The slime inside is from the toxic slime salamander and very toxic. However, that makes it an incredible alchemy ingredient.
Using the right formulas or with the right knowledge, poisons and antidotes can be made from this slime. If the alchemist is talented enough, they can even make other unique potions that must use this specific slime.'
While Clark was surprised, he was very glad that this was the reward he had gotten. Maria would be able to use it, but this was less of a quest than it was a notification from the system. It would be more believable to hear that the system was just congratulating him and the others on managing to befriend a kind beast.
Not every beast was kind like this. Even the more intelligent beasts could be cruel and territorial. Killing every single thing that entered and threatened their territory was just what some beasts did to keep themselves away from others. Thus, it was a surprise when someone found a beast that was calm and passive like this. Yet, the group had managed to do so more than once.
"It's time to head out." Clark smiled as he waved to the toxic slime salamander who had slowly moved back in to the pool of bubbling water while keeping its head out of the water to look at the purple flag as it moved.
"That Was a very good use for that fabric. The gold we got for that might not equal what we can get with these little flowers." Isa sighed because it was another item lost that she couldn't sell. She did understand the benefits of others growing stronger though.
"It was worth way more to make friends with a beast that protects those it cares for. If we ever come here again or spread this information, it might be a place that younger tamers can come to learn about poison, fire, and water. It will be a good place in the future." Clark's words were more than they seemed it was a promise that this was part of the future when they managed to take control.
