Chapter 577: Unique Steam Environment
Chapter 577: Unique Steam Environment
'Geyser trout- rare
The geyser trout is a smaller beast that is known to enjoy the hottest waters around. It has a lesser fire typing that allows it to have a very high resistance to heat. But it has a stronger water affinity that it uses to be able to survive in water by gathering more water towards it, even when out of the boiling pools it enjoys.
This water control allows it to move swiftly through steamy air due to the water it can attract by using the skills it has. The tough beak that it has on its mouth is used to cut chunks off of prey and eat them. This also is its only method of attack other than using its high body temperature to slap and burn attackers.
Its meat is toxic, but the scales are very high in heat resistance. This makes them a very high quality material for those that wish to craft flexible gloves. It is an arduous task that requires very fine details and very unique tools.
Normally, these beasts will only be found in the boiling pools, but because of this, they are often shot out of the pools by the escaping trapped steam from underneath the earth. The geysers that they are caught up in shoot them in to the air. This is why they developed the skill to manipulate steam and be able to move through it.
It is also an added danger since many of them will be shot out of the pools at once when the geysers burst.'
Clark carefully shared these skills with the group. The red and silver color of the multiple geyser trout moving around within the pools proved that there was more than what they expected to be there. These were not some solitary fish like beast. They were grouped up like many other fish that anyone else could see in rivers and the ocean.
"You mean that they will probably hunt when they get shot out of the pool that they live in. randomly? Or would they gather like that because they can sense that there is a geyser coming?" This very important question was asked by Reese a second before they felt the ground shake below them.
"I would support your theory. Isa, could you please have the crystal golem help my earth prince?" Ella didn't hesitate to call on the earth prince. The same for Isa as she understood what Ella ws thinking.
Reese's theory proved to be exactly correct. This might not be mentioned in the system analysis that Clark had read, however, it was spot on. These were called geyser trout for a reason. They didn't just live in places where a geyser might form. These beasts had developed alongside the geysers and found ways to become strong enough to use them.
Not just survive when they were thrown out of their nice little bubbling pools of hot water and toxic minerals.
Between the earth prince and the crystal golem, two large parts of earth and crystal shook up just as the sound of pressurized steam shot up right next to the group. Due to the quick acting, they were completely guarded against the sudden rain of toxic heated water. The sounds of slapping and crumbling coming from the outside of their earth and crystal dome.
When the shaking ceased and they didn't hear the louder sound anymore, the dome of earth and crystal fell revealing what happens constantly within this dungeon.
The steam had gotten ten times as thick which made it hard for the cloud sprite to manipulate it. But that was besides the point. There had just been a massive geyer that erupted and caused a change in the dungeon that spilled out in to the violent jungle area. This made a massive change to the ecosystem which was one reason the violent jungle had grown through the years.
This was the exact cause which was somewhat amazing.
Looking down, the group could see that the beaks of the geyser trout had been tough enough to chomp down and break the crystal and earth dome that had risen to protect them. But they were still around. Some swam through the steam as if they were still in the very same pools of water that they were always in.
"Just because you can, doesn't mean we will let you bite us." Reese struck out with the spirit steel sword. The two were always in perfect sync. It was amazing to see how well Reese and his beast had paired their skills and battle style.
Before anyone else could move, the spirit steel sword had vibrated as it was used to attack. This vibration had used the metal energies it possessed to create an odd wave of sound and energy that disrupted the steam around the incoming geyser trout. Therefore, the trout were left without the ability to remain moving toward their target.
Five were cut down in half without much effort. Just a tamer and their beast working as one. "Behind!" Brad warned Reese as he jumped to block a slightly larger geyser trout that had seen an opening. With Brad there, his possessed armament's shield easily took the attack.
Unlike the earth and crystal dome, the geyser trout suffered heavy damage trying to bite the shield which was actually another beast!
"And with one more slash…" Reese slashed down again and the trout was no issue any longer. "We can keep exploring since we scared the others away." The remainder of the geyser trout had seen their fellow trout perish. Naturally, they fled from this. It was the only thing that their instincts told them to do. Run away from the predators that they could not even take a bite from.
The added dangers were here though. The many bodies that had just fallen of beasts that were heated well above what normal beasts would be attracted other beasts. The blood inside the geyser trout was naturally hot. Therefore, when it was opened to the air, it became steam as well.
Any beast would have smelled it. But in the steamy plains dungeon, the open space allowed the steam like this to travel. It only needed seconds to alert other beasts that had been hiding within the shorter grasses away from sight.
'Leech fly- rare
The leech fly is a beast that is able to latch on with four sharp teeth. It flies to any beast bleeding and will try and take that blood for itself. When too many swarm, they can completely kill off a beast in the matter of minutes.
They will often be thought of as odd mosquitoes, however, their water and fire typing allowed for them to develop a heat and water resistant body similar to the leeches that live within volcanic pools of water. Their skin requires them to always be in a steamy area therefore, they are trapped within this dungeon.
They have smaller wings that easily fall off and grow back which is how they can easily manage to attach to a beast and then escape in to the air or water nearby. Their skin is durable along with resistance. If they were larger, there might be a larger market for them. Instead, they are considered too few and hard to handle to be worth much.
They detest dry heat and will also avoid cool areas. This is the best way to deter them instead of the normal repellents that rely on smells and other poisons since the leech flies are resistant to them.'
"Isa, make a cold spot or a hot spot around us. The leech flies are going to try and steal away the trout from us but they will also attack us." Clark warned them all as the group pushed in closer to one another. It was clear that he was not messing with them and that this was a real threat that needed to be handled right away.
The buzzing around them all increased more and more before the steam was shifting because of the many leech flies that had just taken to the air. It was a wonder that they didn't have some form of wind affinity due to the effects of the steam in the air. This wasn't a focus on their minds though.
Instead, they all stood with Isa who was channeling the blaze elemental instead of the winter witch since she could already use some of the ambient fire energy around.
Normally, the blaze elemental would be able to call on bigger flames in a burst but with so much water, that was harder. Making ice was an even greater challenge which was why Isa chose her blaze elemental to help them.
The what suddenly skyrocketed before pushing away from the group. They all had their heat resistance from training but this was enough to make them all wince. Even Clark who was the most resistant due to dragon energy in his body felt that it was uncomfortable.
Yet, the leech flies felt this was a tremendous pain. Small wines as they retreated due to the moisture on their bodies suddenly drying filled the air next. Some discarded their wings and directly crawled in to the bubbling pools for safety, starting a whole new feeding frenzy for the geyser trout.
