Chapter 41: Like Poison
Chapter 41: Like Poison
The sour taste in Clark's mouth was not going away even though the Cain family young master had walked away back to the third year elite class. What annoyed him even more was the fact that almost all the third year elite class had established their taming spaces making their tamed beasts a mystery to him. He needed more information to prepare.
"Are-are you going to be alright?" Maria stammered out the single question. When Clark looked at her he saw that she was pale and slightly shaking.
"I should ask you that. Why would they treat you like that?" Clark wanted to ask more but saw that Maria flinched even more when he started to ask. "Don't tell me. But know that if they try anything…I will not hold back against them. People like them are a poison. Those in charge of them are worse."
Clark's words were powerful. Maria flinched away even more when he said the last few. Yet, Clark did not try to remedy this. He had his motivation and he would be sure to follow through with what he needed to do. He needed to bring the Mourne family down from the high throne it had built while abusing others.
Devi was watching carefully. He had seen the interaction between Clark and the Cain family young master. He did not like that people were looking this way with such disdain and evil intention. In Devi's mind, he was seeing a threat building. A threat that could harm Clark or Crim, the two most important beings in his life.
It took some time, but eventually, Maria and Clark had returned to their calm state. Clark noticed that Maria was keeping a little more distance from him which was odd compared to how she had been acting previously. But he took it as the way that the last encounter had gone. "If you watch how the clouds move you can learn how the cloud whale is flying. It isn't actually floating or anything magical.
It is controlling the wind with its tail."
Following Clark's gaze, Maria found that she could see the white tint of the condensed wind around the whale's tail. It was using its skills to gather the wind at high pressure to flow around its entire body. This caused it to fly through the air with extreme control. "I wonder if that can help Lit move better.
Lit uses spiritual energy though…" The simple explanation from Clark was enough to break the tension in the air.
Soon Lit and Maria were trying different things to help Lit move around Maria faster. This distraction allowed Clark to relax and focus on meditation. Devi had held on to his shoulder for the entire time and Crim was guarding Clark while his tail rested on his leg. The close contact was all Clark needed to make some progress.
Clark was also able to think about the portions of the moonlight spear he had read.
There were many moved that the technique focused on. Some that Clark was not able to fathom properly just yet and some that were very straight forward. The first and easiest one was the crescent moon slash. Just as the name implied, the slash followed an arc shape mimicking a crescent moon. It was the basic slash that could take out a single opponent.
In opposition to this was the full moon slash. It was less of a single arcing slash and more of a spinning full circle slash. This attack was designed so that it could copy the circular form of a full moon taking out multiple enemies surrounding the user. It would be perfect for the wilds where multiple goblins could surround Clark and attack in an ambush.
He could also use it to create distance between him and multiple enemies.
Just as Clark was envisioning himself doing these moves, he noticed that the cloud whale had begun to descend. As he opened his eyes he saw a patch of dying forest. "Students! Prepare to leave the cloud whale. We have arrived at the outskirts of the goblin cemetery!" Professor Brun focused on the first year students since his third year students were already prepared.
He ushered them off on to the dry patchy grass the cloud whale had just landed in.
"As some of you have learned, the goblin cemetery is a Nova academy controlled wilderness area. The goblins live here for unknown reasons battling amongst themselves. Fifteen different tribes exist here of various strengths. They will battle amongst each other and hunt what they can. The reason this is known as a cemetery is due to the high amount of goblin bones buried beneath the ground."
Clark was trying to listen but he could feel the incredible aura of death. It wasn't something that everyone appeared to be reacting to. Just he and Devi seemed to feel it, meaning that it was a special characteristic that Devi had over other beasts.
Even more than this, Clark could feel that the spiritual energy from the many goblins that had been killed here battling amongst themselves, was assisting Devi with his every movement. The air itself had power that was feeding Devi, therefore, coming here and allowing Devi to exist was enough to bring him to greater heights of strength.
"Yes, you are correct. Goblins have multiple forms based on how they grow. The third years should teach you these things but you seem to have studied well before coming here." Professor Brune had asked a few questions while Clark was stuck within his own thoughts. But this raised a question.
"Professor Brune, since there are so many dead goblins, is it possible to find an undead goblin beast?" This was an interesting question that none of the students had thought to ask. The undead beasts were very rare causing many to overlook them.
"You are correct to assume there may be some. The situation is unique that they may form here from the bones of goblins. Specifically, bone goblins, goblin amalgamations, and zombie goblins have been seen here. If you find one, have a third year student defeat it immediately so that the diseases they carry are not passed on. They are nearly impossible to tame so do NOT attempt it.
You will not find the materials needed to do so here either." This was a hard rule set for the entire class along with the third year class. Fooling around here would be asking for death.
"Thank you. I understand." Many of the students murmured in awe based on the fact that they may see a rare beast here.
"Sir, I have a question as well. Will there be spiritual beasts that come to feed on the energy here?" Clark had let the fact that Maria's glow sting jellyfish could feel spiritual energy. That meant she could feel that there was more to the area than everyone else noticed.
"There is a potential. However, the academy has many guards patrolling the outer edges of this forest to maintain a safer environment for teaching. That means you do not need to worry about such unique beasts attacking you." Professor Brune was impressed yet again. These were not questions he had been asked when he had taken a class here before. "Now, let's settle you in to groups.
I have five third year class leaders."
