Spirit Taming

Chapter 39: Preparations

Chapter 39: Preparations

Sleeping would have been the best option after Alexander left Clark, Crim, and Devi in their room. But there was no way that was going to happen. Clark had been told a major bonus. He was going to a goblin graveyard. The perfect place for Devi to train and Clark to gather unique materials for his taming space.

"Alexander has to have chosen the goblin graveyard because it has a lot of spiritual energy for you." Devi was softly laughing on the side in excitement. Clark found it slightly too adorable and had to turn away. "That means we will have a lot together up and hunt there."

Out of all the books Clark had grabbed from the library, he found one of the basic bestiaries. The book was on weak monsters that traveled in groups. He flipped through the pages recalling the memory he had of goblins being within it somewhere. "Here it is. Devi, Crim, look closely."

"The goblins have multiple types. The basic goblins are short boney and green. They are basically wild things that group up and attack anything alive. Then there are smarter ones like shamans that use magical skills, hobgoblins that are all muscle and dumber, then some more that take weird roles.

If they had better intellect like those that are born spirit beasts, then they would be much more powerful.'

Just because a goblin was considered a weak beast, people would fail to defeat them. The types of goblins were various, making battling groups tough. The tamer had to be able to counter multiple attacks that did different kinds of damage. Let alone when the weaker goblins were under the influence of a smarter goblin.

Clark let out a small sigh, "I should give this to Maria. There's no doubt she will follow us. But that doesn't mean we are sticking together. Devi, if possible I want you to go off on your own. Use your invisibility to find spots that you can grow stronger. Consume as much spiritual energy from this place.

Crim, you will be right next to me. I am sure we will have some problems with more pawns."

The potential that Clark would have to handle the Cain family pawns was very high. Especially since there would be older students in charge of their elite class. The elite class of older students would have to be influenced by many powerful families. That being said, Clark would be facing many of them right off the bat.

He didn't want to use the Mane family name or Alexander's name, however, he might be forced in to it depending on the strength of those he faced.

His knuckles cracked on the door easily waking up Maria who had been resting. "Clark?" She was groggy and confused about why Clark would come to bother her at this time of night. It was the night before they went off in to the wild with their entire class. He should have been resting too.

"Don't fool around and sleep the entire night. Tread this section here. We are going to a goblin cemetery." Clark handed the book over then went to his own room. He planned to meditate after reading the moonlight spear technique. He had to be prepared to choose a weapon before they left…

"Here's your book. Thank you for the warning." Maria found that Clark was already ahead of her by the time she woke up. She had slept a little longer than he had. This ended with her having to find him at the large square with the other students gathered together.

"Now cut the chit chat and listen up! Before the cloud whale gets here to bring us to the academy controlled wilds, you have the chance to choose a weapon and basic gear. If you have your own gear and weapons you may use them. If not, do not be foolish. Take weapons. Take armor.

Be safe!" Professor Wright was not going to let her students rush ahead in to danger. They may have been going to an academy approved wild area, but that meant nothing.

"I have my reinforced gear. The cloth seems stronger than most metal." Clark had looked at the uniform he was given that featured Alexander's gargoyle crest. It also had a very well fit that would enable Clark to battle freely. But the most amazing part was how tough it was. Clark felt that he would struggle to pierce it with the sharpest blade he saw in front of him.

"You are getting a weapon right? I need arrows. I will meet you later." Maria was definitely planning to move with Clark. He felt that he had made the right choice by giving her the book ahead of time so that she and he would both be prepared. He could not babysit her the entire time.

The weapons placed out for the students to choose from were anything but fancy. They were simple and basic. The swords appeared to have a few scratches from past uses but all in all, well unkempt. The other weapons were numerous so that any student would find what they were looking for.

"Now to decide if I want a long or short spear. This is why I want to make an adjustable spear." The short spear would mean less reach but better control. It was also lighter weight. The long spear would be heavier but allow Clark to attack from further away.

"This one isn't the prettiest, but it's not the longest or the shortest." The spear that Clark chose was metal throughout. This was a simple design that could last for a longer time than wooden handled spears. It also ensured that Clark would be training his muscles while using it the same way he would a longer spear. Crim even growled softly in approval. He liked the way Clark looked holding a spear.

"Listen here students! I am the third year professor for the elite class, professor Brune. I will have my students split up with you once we reach the location. Your first test starts now though!' The man that took control over the students with a booming voice was a fairly large person. It was clear he focused on muscle training over everything else.

"You are going to the goblin graveyard. You have the entire trip to gather information from each other about it and plan how you will handle yourselves. That is it. But If your professor hears you, there will be a penalty."

The test from the third year elite class professor was brilliant. Clark was very impressed that they had been challenged to gather information without speaking. From across the weapon section, Clark saw Maria glancing at him and nodding. The two would remain silent and she wanted to show Clark that she understood it was safer that way.

The students that gave away their knowledge were sure to be targeted for the punishment. The best method was to keep a low profile and be ready to handle whatever they would have thrown at them. "You think you can hide that you know something from me? I heard you holed yourself up for three days after being in a fight. Spill what you know." Ralph had spotted Clark and called him out instantly.

Clark could only bite his cheek in annoyance.
