Chapter 308: Northern Descent

Chapter 308: Northern Descent

The feeling of standing on a mount that was attached to such a large beast was surreal. Even Isa was a little surprised since she had only seen her family get on such beasts. She had never been allowed to go on them herself as of yet because she had to get older to defend herself. That was just normal thinking since there were more dangerous beasts on the air as well as the land.

The wilderness was everywhere.

The moment that the snowfall owl flapped its wing, the entire area was full of fluttering snow crystals. The snowflakes that built up around them were a direct usage of the wind and ice typing that the owl possessed. This was just one reason it was known as the snowfall owl since many people could see the snow it kicked up by flapping its wings naturally.

The silence in its movements was a surprise though. Every flap of wings produced a barely audible sound of breeze. Most people would not even notice it out in the wilderness or if there was a natural breeze around them. It made a lot more sense to the group why it was able to silently hunt through the clouds for mice that lived in literally snow clouds.

The group's world view changed slowly but surely. Before their eyes, the trees they had been going through for so many days had become small. Their idea of the world had also been broken. Everything was small and close together.

From the highest point, before they started to approach the bright white clouds in the sky, they could see the camps of many tame teams around. They were all in places where the forest had been cleared or near the various dungeons. The only reason it was safe to camp in this way was the safety of the sky. There were not any powerful beats that lived in the area that would hunt them.

This was why some cities were known to hide underground. In the west there were cities carved in to mountain sides with tunnels and entire underground sections. This was a well known fact. However, the reason were the beasts that lived in the air around the western mountains. They could swoop down and consume an entire village if they were hungry enough.

Many small beasts flashed in Clark's vision, but he had no time to waste on the analysis of them. The wind around them picked up as they moved above the clouds and to an unseen world. The world above clouds was where few tamers would go unless they had the required beasts to be in the area. But surprisingly, the entire area seemed to be abandoned.

There was nothing but bright sun and blue sky above the endless sea of clouds just below them. They all felt like they were in some foreign dream world unable to wake up. Yet, just as this beautiful sight came to be, they saw another shape break the clouds just for a second. That second was enough for Clark to understand why no one would come in to such a place easily.

'Cloud dragon- rare

The cloud dragon is a long lived and powerful beast that lived only in the center of storm systems. They can create rain or snow clouds depending on their emotions. They are known to consume beasts that live in the sky and never touch the ground. They have sometimes appeared on the land when they are near the end of their lives.

Oftentimes, scales from their body fall and are eaten up by land dwelling beasts. This is a very valuable material for beasts with water and wind typing. It is also valuable to dragons due to their bloodline abilities. However, fighting one is considered incredibly foolish.

The cloud dragon can replace parts of its body with clouds. It will always be fighting at a perfect state even if it is actually near death. This is why they are known as the eternal kings of the clouds. Many tamers that had to pass through their territory learn the rules and how to keep from angering them.

The cloud dragon enjoys…'

This was just a single claw, but it had been large enough to easily grab the snowfall owl that the group was on. Now one else seemed to catch this sight but for Clark. He knew that professor Wright's friend would have to know the rules of the territory. But most of all, it brought about the true weakness Clark had.

They were all weak. Just small little things. They could try to grow as much as possible, but this single cloud dragon could easily wipe a city off the map without even realizing. Now one would be able to do anything. But, some of the city lords could fight them. That was a fact.

It was also why most city lords only had one beast. They needed one beast to get every recourse to become truly powerful.

No sooner had Clark breathed a sigh of relief and understanding did the snowfall owl start its descent to the ground. The speed and efficiency was impressive. No one was jostled or even harmed in any way as the land quickly approached and a glistening city of ice was shown to them.

'True Ruler of Ice- mythical (slumbering)

The true ruler of ice is a beast that has truly mastered all that is their elemental typing. Upon reaching this incredible level, they have fallen in to slumber. They can only awaken when they find the true path to…

'The information has been blocked. The host has no requirements to warrant information about this being. There is no danger.'

Clark was stunned. His jaw literally dropped seeing that the system had intentionally blocked information for the first time ever. Clark couldn't even make out what this true ruler of ice was. It was just a city with many ice forms around it since that was how the northern city lived. It was cold all year long.

This single thing brought many thoughts to Clark's mind as they landed. He couldn't imagine what it meant to be so high in understanding that a beast would become a true ruler of their type. However, this also meant that the cloud dragon claw was still small compared to this. It also meant that the northern city might have a lot more knowledge for him to learn.

'There will be a time and a place for all things. Please continue to find unique growth potential. There will be more opportunities to receive the gifts from the lord of creation in time.'

The system had not spoken much. Clark felt that the more intelligence it had, the less it might speak in general. However, having just this interaction was a lot. Although Clark had not learned much, he had learned one thing. He was encouraged to get stronger and everything he received from the gotcha was considered a gift to him from this lord of creation. This goldy being was offering him gifts.

That had to mean something.

"Still amazed seeing my new home? I knew that all of you would be. But this is the final stop. I have a few other clients to see today, but I will come and watch the student tournaments!"

"I wish you didn't have to go and work. That is not as fun as getting a personal tour from you. But I can tell that these weren't planned orders or requests." Professor Wright gestured to a few people that had approached them as they landed on the outskirts of the city. "I will wait to see you later." Professor Wright ushered them away with a lot more speed than before.

She was clearly able to tell that these people were from another academy and were looking for help with something.

"This is the northern city of Nebula. It is partially made from stone, and some unique wood, but also from the ice that forms and never thaws here. There are even some places with ice that never thaws at all. It is well worth examining for your ice type beasts. However, we have to first enter and get to the inn we need to check in at.

Follow close by and do not try to do anything until you have become familiar with everything here." This was just common sense. Professor Wright knew that a new city to them was going to be hard for everyone to adjust to.

"We will look at copies of the city map later. That should help everyone. Isa, you will not be running off to do business just yet. That is a rule, understood?" Professor Wright knew that Isa was thinking about rushing off already. However, she had caught the thought before it became reality.

"And Jerold, you can stop hiding there. No one is going to yell at you or have anything to say. You left so you can get stronger and it is very clear that you did that. Just apologize later for being foolish and show the team you are on that you have learned a lesson." This made everyone stop moving immediately.
