Spirit Taming

Chapter 301: New Things To Learn

Chapter 301: New Things To Learn

It was clear that Grace was worried but also very excited about getting to the new dungeon. She was right with professor Wright the entire time that they were walking. Naturally, the path was also busier since many people had left as soon as things went wrong in the last dungeon.

Some were merchants that knew they would not be doing good business when people were worried and stressed out. Others were a little less honest when it came to what they did. Some people would avoid areas with a lot of military tamer presence. They could not get away with scams or other illegal activities when there were too many law enforcers.

"So, you haven't said much about what you found. What research materials will you have for me to learn?" Ella was certain that Clark had learned a lot from the room he had told them about. But she had to know more. If she didn't get her hands on something new then she might go crazy.

"I have enough books about rune carving to keep you busy for a lifetime. But the best part is that we have an apprentice set of tools that matches them. And the tools from the personal room of a rune carving master!" Clark watched as Ella's eyes became wide. He knew at that very moment that selling even a single tool would be tantamount to asking for his own death from Ella.

"I will begin reading them immediately. What quality are the books? What language? Are we able to translate if not our language? How old do we believe they are? Should we study dialect or begin to learn from an expert in changes of dialect?

Should I-"

"Here is the first book in order of what I took from the shelves. They seemed to be organized by what he had written first to what he had been most recently working on. The last few journals are separate projects. They aren't finished so we might even be able to pick up where they left off."

"You understand that with these we will be able to create our own runes. Ralph's molten boar has a unique ability to melt ores and other metals in its body. If we can have Ralph train it not to consume them and give us metal alloys then we will be able to forge without a furnace." Ella had already built such an extravagant plan. It was becoming clearer by the minute.

"Then we can proceed with shaping which Ralph should be able to learn. He will have the strength to do so from his bonds with his molten boar. Afterwards, you and I can focus on the runes. We can create equipment that will enhance the energies of certain types. That way we can facilitate perfect growth conditions for beasts. Increase the chances of a positive growth.

Potentially even create perfect evolution and mutation opportunities."

The number of things that Ella had thought of in a moment was astounding. Clark could barely keep up but he was still memorizing every word. He knew that it would all be valuable down the line. So much potential that he had not even considered yet.

"Ralph, come here for a minute!" Ralph heard Clark's call and wondered what was going on.

'What do you need? Did you realize that I have more potential than you and you want to learn from me?" Ralph looked like he wanted to jump right in to a moving battle. Unfortunately, he realized that Clark was not issuing a challenge for training but just wanted to talk.

"I want you to learn to forge with your partner. Molten boars melt the ores in their stomach to eat. Instead, have it melt them in its mouth and create alloys. Then you can learn to forge. Ella and I are going to learn to carve runes. You will be able to make your own armor.

With runes and more." Now, this was tempting. Even Ralph who was usually caught up in the desire to fight and show his strength could tell that Clark and Ella were putting together a great plan.

"If you three are planning to pursue this, then you should find records of blacksmithing while in the northern city. There are archives there with many records of craftsmen, researchers, and other professions. The archives are where research goes when someone perishes that has no one to continue their work. It is free for everyone to learn from."

Such archives were rare. But with the colder temperatures preventing the normal decay of materials, the north was able to keep these archives better than others. That was why professor Wright suggested this. It would go to help her students but also give her the chance to go to the archives and study as well. Even the most experienced could learn from the research of others.

"Then we will be making a stop there. I will need to memorize as much as possible. Everyone will be required to copy tent journals. I will not allow anyone to leave without doing so." Ella stopped everyone to make them all hear this.

"Wait, but what if I want-"

You will not do a thing until you have completed this task. If you do not, expect to be used as growth material for another beast." Ella was literally threatening to feed Reese to a beast if he didn't help. It was so sharp of a tone that he didn't dare to fight it. Her words had been sharper than his abyssal sword!

"I think it's a good idea. We have been training our bodies and I have been slacking off on my writing. I need to be able to form perfect records when we make a beast growth plan." Maria was also on board with Ella's ideas. But she was thinking differently. She wanted to find records about the beasts her family kept. Or even more, the history of those in the north that might join them.

She was thinking much further ahead lately.

"I can do that, but shouldn't I keep training instead? I can learn some sword and shield techniques there too, but that seems unlikely." Brad was more focused on the training that Clark had told him to do. He was very focused on strengthening his body which was growing to match the level of energy that the possessed helm was gaining in his taming space.

"You may be able to find a technique while there. It is better that you develop your own for now. Try to bash, defend, and charge while you can. I will have Grace attack you while you move." Professor Wright was not very happy that Brad was not on the same page with how valuable the archives were.

Since Grace was too distracted thinking about her wind whistler growing to join the conversation, she made them both train.

Ella grabbed the first boom from Calrk and was already three pages in by the time Clark had thought about showing her anything else. The theories that were recorded in the first journals were clearly the earliest books that the master carver had used while learning. Notes of someone's journey to becoming a master could be good and bad.

They could highlight issues but also share their struggles with others. Those reading them would be walking the same path as the master had previously.

The analysis of some of the tools had proven that they were uniquely made by the carver. They could channel certain energies so they had been made for specific runes. This just went further for Clark to learn about the craft. But it also gave Maria and him a good thing to do while they walked. Maria was recording what Clark told her about each tool.

She just grew amazed that Calrk was able to identify what the tools could be used for with just a look.

Meanwhile, Ralph had become lost in his own thoughts. He had never thought about learning a craft. He had been focused on only growing stronger since he had been able to enter the academy entrance exam. Even before that he had never had the money to think about doing anything else. If he had money, it went to food and surviving on the streets.

The potential to become a blacksmith and a tough battler in the world of taming was too much. If he could do one of the other, he would be considered great. But both? He would be revered as a genius among geniuses. And here, his rival, was telling him just to do it like it was something he could do without any effort.

Professor Wright saw that these things were going on as they walked. She knew that they had a long day of walking and even in to the night. But she had already made the decision to call her other basts out to travel and guard them. The students she had grown even more proud of over this journey were too focused to interrupt. They were learning new things and growing much faster than ever.
