Chapter 299: Artisan Techniques
Chapter 299: Artisan Techniques
There was a strange feeling as Clark held things much older than him. There were notes and scribbled memos that the craftsman that had owned this place made. But the person had never come back leaving this sealed rune room waiting for an owner. It was a sad thing to consider but also a strange feeling that even if someone never returns, there will be something left behind.
The many books that were taken were all basics when it came to rune carving and creating tools with runes. The knowledge might have been changed through the years but some of it had been lost so it had immeasurable value at the moment. However, this was not what Clark was after.
The things he was looking for were what he wouldn't be able to find anywhere else. The reason that he took the largest desk to search was because he knew that if he found something he could use the analysis on it. The system would give him major details. Even more, he had no luck with the system quest completing, meaning that he still had something to find.
As he moved his hands through the drawers, he managed to find quills, papers, and a lot of extra supplies. None of them seemed too important which made Clark start to pull every drawer out individually. He was going to take everything anyways so it was better that he was as thorough as possible.
'Crystal quill- rare
A crystal quill is a unique tool used to begin the rune engraving. It is an etching tool that helps a rune carver map out their plans for carving. It uses energies from certain crystals to be able to do this. It was made from the feathers of a crystal swan and crafted by the very person that used it prior to it losing its owner.
They are rare tools since they are harder to use but give a much better overall product.'
The tool that Clark found was the only one he saw in the entire desk. It was a very good thing for him to get if he ended up learning how to carve runes. Quality was always going to beat quantity when it came to the strength of equipment. What was the value of having ten poor rune equipments than one perfect rune equipment? He could only ever use one at a time.
With every drawer pulled out and gone through with a careful eye, Clark wondered what else there could be. This was until he noticed the art on the desk. Out of all the work tables, desks, and shelves in the room, this was the only one with artistic carvings. That had to be a thing of importance. Why would this be the case?
Naturally, as Clark started to pull at the carved pieces, the other caught on to him doing so. Maria, Brad, and Reese all watched Clark fiddle with the carving. They saw that little parts of the wood shook as he pulled at them until a hidden drawer was pulled out. "I thought that the tree patterns carved on this were weird. Why would this be the only carved and artistic piece, right?"
"Only you would have worried about that here. But I am glad you do." Maria instantly praised Clark. She was very impressed with the small detail that Clark had followed to find this. It made her want to learn more from him since he was like an investigator discovering a crime in the city. She considered it a good job for him after they cleaned the city up of corruption.
'Book of research- unique
The craftsman that worked with runes in this workshop was one of a kind. He was one of few that was unable to have a spirit beast due to injuries as a baby. Instead of falling victim to this fate, he rose up and sharpened his mind. As he did so, he became a prominent rune carver.
The research he has is compiled in a personal journal. After researching the basic elemental energies, other energies with more mysterious backgrounds became important. He was able to discover runes that could influence space, death, dragon, chaos, lunar,...energies. It never made it out in to the world and the study of rune carving is still at a standstill.
Only a handful of people in the world have grasped these unique rune creation methods.'
Clark nearly dropped the journal. He knew exactly how valuable this was and why any craftsman with the tiniest of hints that this might be here would send anyone to find it. Even a valuable apprentice. But even more, the door that had sealed the room had protected such amazing knowledge for so long. It was a true blessing.
'Quest: Hidden Carving- completed
The host has inferred correctly and found that the apprentice that lost his life was searching for something. Travel to the fourth floor and discover the site of the deceased apprentice. Learn from what they discovered and return with the prize they desired to take with them out of the dungeon ruins.
Requirement: gain the knowledge the apprentice meant to find and the items the apprentice meant to find
Reward: one Gocha ticket for the artisan specific techniques.'
The system responded as soon as Clark safely stored the journal in his spatial ring. This had been what the system wanted him to find. It would be incredible for Clark to learn from the notes of a genius rune carver. To find the paths to the death runes he might be able to use on his items so that he could channel the energies that Devi used.
This wasn't even considering the dragon or shadow energies that Clark could also use if he created dragon and shadow runes.
The unique runes that he could have access to would put him well above others of his level. The only requirement would be that he learned enough to use them. But the most valuable thing was the reward. The artisan gotcha ticket was already being drawn.
'The artisan specific technique is being drawn. Good luck host!'
Clark held his breath while everyone else helped look at the other small hidden compartments. They found little pieces of crystals or other unique tools. Nothing as immense as the journal that Clark had. Not that he had told them what it was yet. He wanted to learn the knowledge then teach them the best way instead of them struggling and losing their focus on the upcoming tournament.
'The reward has been drawn. Congratulations!
Eternal ice forging- legendary
The eternal ice forging is a method that frost giants used before one of the great wars of the world. They were an ancient race that was able to see through the webs of runes in the coldest years of the planet. They are responsible for many things, including the creation of mountains and many dungeons.
The eternal ice is an ice that is left from ancient times. It is never melting and is eternally cold. The northern most parts of the world hold it in great supply making it uninhabitable. This being the case means that weapons made from it are very valuable. None that can be wielded by the current races of the world have been found.
Those that can forge the eternal ice are few and far between because of the loss of knowledge. The methods are odd but will create things that can massively enhance certain beasts, races, and other aspects of the world. This is truly a skill worth the legendary rank it is given.'
Clark didn't think much of the things he read until he felt his mind being flooded with information. It was as if he had just been given a second brain full of forging knowledge. However, instead of heat and fire he felt cold and immovable ice. He saw basic tools being used with internal energies to shape ice that seemed impossible to damage.
The things he saw and felt were things that any apprentice would have once learned. Now that was long lost, yet still, Clark was gaining the knowledge. He lacked the practice but he had a textbook in his head. All the secrets to learn the basics had just been delivered to him.
This might not have been an insane cheat given by the system, but it was a massive boon. He was given a step up to do things that many people could not. Who cares about the rune crafting for now? He could learn that later. Right now he was going to be able to learn how to make weapons out of eternal ice which none had done before.
The best part was that he was heading to the north. The odds that he could find some pieces of eternal ice were high. All he had to do was let Isa work her magic in the merchant gossip circles. The odds of him finding something would be very high.
"I think that's it. I can't find anything else. But If you like reading so much like Maria says, you have a new library." Reese was a little disappointed that there were no more things for him but that was fine. He saw that Clark looked very happy and that was all they needed to know that he had some ideas.
"Then we can go back and relax for a while? You still want us to stop at another dungeon, right? For Grace?" Brad remembered this and snapped Clark back to reality. He did have this plan. The perfect place to stop before the location that Professor Wright was bringing them.
