Spirit Taming

Chapter 247: More Than Armor

Chapter 247: More Than Armor

"Why are you all so unhappy about that? Clark looked at the other four of their team. He felt that they were overreacting by way too much here. "It's safer if we walk. The carriage is easy to spot and has to stick to the trails made. If anyone tries to cause trouble we are too easy to get to.

Walling means we can take smaller trails."

The others liked what Clark said but the reason they didn't want to walk was the danger. It meant they could avoid the people trying to weaken their team. But Professor Wright wasn't saying anything as she walked out through the city streets toward the city gates. She was sure that they would all learn a lot but also that this would toughen them up a little.

"It makes more sense that we will avoid more people. If we take lesser traveled roots we will also be able to gather more materials." Ella highlighted the benefits of doing so. She was also putting on an unmarked jacket that would cover up the academy uniform.

"You should all put jackets on too. It's not that warm out today so it makes sense that we would be wearing them. If you don't have another I have some extras." Isa seemed to have a devilish grin while speaking. Grace, Jerold, Reese, and Brad knew that she was going to be charging them something for using her additional unmarked jackets.

"Good to see students learning from one another." Professor Wright had already changed her school robe for a regular jacket. It was better to hide the covers that had the Nova academy symbols on them. It was good that the academy uniforms only had markings on the robes that covered normal clothing. It might be higher quality but the clothing could be explained away with a few lies.

The main reason for this was to make things safer for students. Many of them had value. When it came to dangers, some criminals would go out of their way to target students. This was mainly for the chance at grabbing a richer student that could afford to have their mommy and daddy fork over a nice mountain of gold as ransom.

But also because there were always unsavory people who wanted to get one over on another family. The world was not a safe place. In and out of the city.

"Speaking of the route, the way to the north is a little different than what any of you may have gone through. There is a small forest, a rocky field, and then we will start to get to the hills which become mountains. The foot of the mountains that block us from the constant cold storms is where we will meet my acquaintance for further travel.

Until then we will fight our way there thor the wilderness." Professor Wright showed off a map but was also holding an additional map that Clark's team had shown her.

"There were a few suggestions to stop by two dungeons and a special wilderness area that is rarely visited. I will explain to them as we get close but you will have to look to each other for the reasons why. I am a professor, I teach, but I am here to guide and protect you from dangers that you can not face. I expect you all to learn something on this trip."

As Professor Wright made it clear that she was not going out of her way to handle things that the group would not be able to defeat. Those with less battle experience stiffened. "I hope that we can all learn a little from one another. I know that Brad has some defensive skills he might share with us. Jerold said he was inspired by spearmanship. And I have never seen a spectral sword style.

Not to mention Grace who will be able to scout very well with her wind whistler's skill when it forms a body and is out of that box."

Since the gloomy faces were all Clark could see, he ensured that he gave good reasons for what they could learn from each other. Clark in his mind, however, was thinking about the different spearmanship that he might see. The sword style using the spectral sword might also be extremely useful when it came to his development. New battle partners with different styles were always welcome.

"The first location on the map. The forest with the micro dungeon. I want to go in with just Clark. It should be useful for our beasts' growth." Maria was silent until she managed to catch Professor Wright's ear.

"Of course. I know you have a new beast that could use the energy of that dungeon. And I can see Clark's new addition as well. I have never seen its kind before but I am sure that he found another gem." Professor Wright was sharp as a tack. She knew that the doll that Clark carried was actually a beast in hiding.

"Beast?" Grace glanced at the doll and then at Clark. She wasn't sure if she had the right hunch but for the way that Clark carried the doll with care, she felt that it was surely a beast. "I actually have a question." Clark glanced over at Grace, "How did all of you open your taming spaces so soon? It's not usually that easy."

"We found unique taming space theories to open unique taming spaces that focused on the energies and materials our beasts use. For example, mine is unique to the dragon and other energies my beasts have. It required very specific materials that I am still on the hunt for to expand my taming space. Maria has a taming space perfect for her beasts that is never used anymore. Ella created her own.

And Isa has an ancient family taming space." Clark didn't hide a thing. This was all too easy to figure out if someone went digging.

"I want to open the hall of armor taming space." Brad was the one person that no one expected to have a plan already. From what he had done so far, it seemed that he had missed a few lucky chances leaving him a little slower than other people.

"What's the hall of armor taming space?" Jerold seemed to be the only one that had not heard of it. But many of them had, including Clark.

"Tamers that have armor type of beasts that can mimic armor usually aim to open it. There are different versions of the hall of armor taming space. But it is unique because it is fully focused on helping beasts develop defensive skills. The materials are simple but can be modified based on the core beast of the tamer.

Most guards in our city open it if they can." This was such common sense that Clark didn't feel a single need to ask the system for more information.

'Quest: Not just a taming space

The host is involved in a long journey to a long trial. Due to this, the host is in the perfect position to help themselves and others grow. Take advantage.

Requirement: Help Brad open the unique taming space, The Possessed Knight's hall.

Reward: Large shadow crystal, 2 gotcha tickets, small dragon crystal.'

It was unexpected for the system to react like this. However, Clark accepted it easily. They were on a journey and it was an ideal chance to work his mind in to helping someone. This would sharpen his mental strength while offering a chance to fight for materials that Brad needed.

"Brad, what would you say if I told you I thought you could open a better version of the taming space you want to open?" Clark saw the confusion on everyone's faces.

"Well, of course I would. It will help my armor become…armor. The possessed helm needs more energy to grow." Brad was sure that he would struggle to help the possessed helm become a living armor. It required a lot of energy and materials for it to build an entire body.

"What are you willing to do to get it? If you follow everything I say properly, you can forget a living armor. What about a hollow knight? Would you prefer a stronger beast that could stand on its own or massively strengthen you when joined to your body?" Clark sounded like a demon offering great riches that could be steeped in a curse.

"Who wouldn't want that? I would kill for that." Brad sounded like he didn't believe Clark until he looked in to Clark's eyes. "You're serious…then yes, I want that. I would train for years if I had to. I don't have much to return to you though.."

"I don't care what you have to offer me. Just help me when I need it. But for now, we will focus on you opening the possessed knight's hall taming space. We should be able to pick up materials as we travel. Just try to meditate while walking. I want every bit of energy to go to your possessed helm.

And yes, it will remain on your head the entire trip. You need a stronger bond."

Clark's orders were immediately followed. Brad had already seen the thing that Clark's team was capable of. If he let this chance pass him by he would forever kick himself over it. The chance to have a possessed help become a hollow knight was slim. Many people struggled to make it grow so much in a lifetime. But here, Clark was offering just that in Brad's lifetime.

Something incredibly tempting.
